Have you tried the Noted layout?
@torquebiker9959
@torquebiker9959 2 дня назад
isn’t it better to stick to just one layout? i’m learning Colemak DH now and wanna use only this layout in the future.
@JanLunge
@JanLunge 2 дня назад
Technically yes but there are some issues with using software layouts (when you set it on the pc instead of a programmable keyboard itself) which made me stay on qwerty on internal laptop keyboards or when gaming so i don’t need to rebind every key on every game. And then I have a separate ergonomic keyboard and on all of them I use colemak dh. It would be way better to just use this one layout but you often run into edge case issues if your workflows need to stay flexible. If you know what you will be doing on your pc you can adjust for that and I would recommend it but many people think using 2 layouts doesnt work so I like to explain that its not an issue to just use both as that is what I do.

Thanks for you video and sharing the source files, I'm working on a keypad to replace my Razer tartarus and I'm struggling to find the best solution for the key cluster... either using classic thumbs keys or a mix of keys with a d-pad using microswitches. Having some existing model will greatly help me to improve my design

Jan the man, I've been following you for a few years since I made my first dactyl. Super exited to see this configurator. I'd love to see what you've got going on in github, particularly the mouse-key implementation. I'll be building one when I get some time to try out using joysticks as mouse key inputs, that's an area that is challenging to get the "feel" right on. But to see you grow in this community and on your channel has been a real treat. I will say that your presenting demeanor has changed, in a way that is very to-the-point; by recognizing there's more work on the backend than you can cram into a video -- I like the succinct statements. Really exited to see this, and Great job Jan! Big fan, cheers from california

Your pog software is amazing, it makes all the hard work done within matters of click. Its extremely useful for rp2040 builds, builds that works on circuitpython. Its just missing a feature, that is to enable or disable n-key rollover feature, i know it is a thing mentioned in KMK's website, I've been trying to implement it but i cant figure it out and get it into working on my 60% keyboard. So good luck with that🙂

Dude. This is amazing :) I'm looking into getting into split keyboard firmware programming and have been looking for something that looks this easy! Also, Dactyl Manuforms and Glove80 spotted in the background ;)
@LordHonkInc
@LordHonkInc 4 дня назад
You got me started with split keyboards (my first one was a modified wSplit) and I'd love to make a wireless keyboard sometime in the future but its hard to get into (harder than the wired versions at least, mostly because I don't have access to the most commonly used µCs like the nice!nano). I'm not giving up hope tho, and I'm looking forward to more content from you to learn from :)
@JanLunge

thats so nice to hear thank you. Maybe I will find a good solution for that someday. I have been delaying my wireless build for a while and would like to do them with kmk and something like an esp32 as an addon board to the pi pico/helios for wireless communication maybe that will work out.

Why do you say that Workman is optimized for staggered? I feel like it's emphasis on vertical movement is perfect for a ortholinear board
@JanLunge
@JanLunge 5 дней назад
Yes thats true but if you look at the graded difficulty to reach certain keys from the website you will see that the ortholinear version would use different gradings for the bottom row but the keymap is still the same. In ortholinear boards the row under the homerow is very easy to reach while the are diagonal on staggered keyboards. I did not find any reasoning on there for why the layout would be the same on ortholinear if they have different requirements thats why I expect it to be primarily focused on the staggered layout. ( this doesn’t mean its bad for ortholinears it just had more focus on the staggered layout )

Ordering a PCB is $15 for 5 copies, no hand-wiring needed, soldering can be performed using solder paste in 15 minutes, and it will all look perfect and will be reliable, as a bonus it will provide a high-quality mounting surface. Naked wires look like a nightmare and will definitely cause shorts and are a terrible to work with.

looks amazing, but still have no idea how to connect slave part of the split board(( i mean how UART knows about configurator?
@JanLunge
@JanLunge 11 дней назад
Both sides get setup in pog once and you set its type to split keyboard with the uart pins defined. Then disconnect both, connect the halves together and just connect the main half there you now redo the coordmap and keypressed from the secondary half should show up if everything was configured properly. Pog only needs to write to the main half the second half doesn’t need updating after this point

First off, very nice work with Pog, it looks very good. Installed and up and running in seconds, so I ordered a Helios board to do some testing... I've been trying to get my head around the normal QMK/VIA, I find the process a little confusing but will continue, shame they don't have an all in one tool like Pog... Adding the board image with pin-out as reference was genius...

@JanLunge
@JanLunge 19 дней назад
I since have switched keyboards as the wDactyl is a bit large for what i need most of the time, but the trackpoint is still in the best spot of any keyboard with mouse support I ever used. But for this to be useable long term i would need to include the trackpoint in the main controller so I dont need to plug in 2 usb cables which is really annoying.

How can I set for ex first row of numbers to be also function keys (f1-f12) when clicked with another key?
@JanLunge
@JanLunge 21 день назад
You have them on another layer and toggle that layer on when you hold the other key in the kmk docs you find all the available layer keys but you are likely looking for KC.MO(1) if 1 is your layer for the function keys

But wouldn't the hotswap socket get torn out by removing the switch? Since the wires are stuck in there, wouldn't it completely wreck everything?
@JanLunge
@JanLunge 11 дней назад
Yes very much you would need to pry out the switch from the socket a bit so it doesnt pull as much. On the w60 I added parts to the side that keep the socket from getting pulled out but they require added parts to the plate/case

My 40% ortho has a sticky layer that uses mnemonics for special characters, for instance s is star (asterisk) and q is question. The right side of this sticky layer is the calculator grid which is based on traditional calculators like the Braun one. To enable this layer I use one shot key if I want to type just one character or a number but is I want to type a long number I press the key twice to make it stick until I press that key again I think it's called one shot tap toggle on qmk. I also use one shot shift and if I want to enable all caps I press shift twice like on an android virtual keyboard. I've never liked the idea of restricting your hand by pressing down one key. I also moved the ctrl key where the escape key and use both, ctrl as tap hold and escape as just tap like usual. I also moved the letter P below the K because for me it is too far to the right side. it allowed me to add the BackSpace key besides the letter O and also add a Delete key for fast word correction. I have no idea how people survive on macs without a dedicated delete key. By adding all these changes I can also have dedicated arrow keys and Home and End keys which are essential for Line/Paragraph highlighting. I don't really see myself using another layout since this is what I consider perfection and that's what this is about, finding what you consider the best for you.

Learning the basics of microcontrollers is handy but we have so many abstractions on top of this that you get by fine with just reading all the documentation for each tool you are using eg. Circuit python, kmk, python, nodejs and serial ports

Great work you have done with POG, although it can be done with any version of Pi Pico (even the ones from Aliexpress) would it be possible to take it further and do it with a Pi Zero? It would have enough memory and GPIO to make a style like Corne V3. Greetings
@JanLunge
@JanLunge Месяц назад
I think that would technically work but as the pi zero runs a full operating system compared to the embedded nature of the pi pico it could mean that the response times would be way worse, but an interesting thought experiment for sure
