@@andrebabin5153 I was about 110kg (a bit less now) I'm 6ft 2 as well so. Bigger is better. I can totally relax on this board. It will take my weight easily and I really don't notice the length when I'm riding it. It has mounts for straps but I don't use them as I prefer the freedom to move my feet in different positions It's really a great board. I let 2 people have a go last weekend and they both got up on foil straight away.
I love the look of the KT boards and those longer ones seem perfect for the ocean. I think yours is 22" wide. The Gong is 22.5" wide so not much in it. These downwind boards with the narrower width take a little while to adjust to - dont give up keep practicing you will get there👍😀
I’ve got the Sirus 3XL 186 and couldn’t seem to make it work. Lifted uncontrollably and then if I could keep it down it would rail over and chuck me off. How do you get it flying in control?
ooooh good question. I had exactly the same problem when i started with it. I move my mast further back so when im on the board, the mast is right below where the rear footstrap front mount is. Ive had to experiment a lot with foot position but find that helped (im probably similar weight to you (after a big lunch 108kg). It does like to take off very easilly if theres a gust of wind and my foot position isnt right it will just go and take off and throw me off lol. So i think just keep moving the mast back until it stabilizes
@@EASTCOASTGONGWINGFOILING-sr6kh Thanks for that. I may bring it back out again as it’s very light here now ( hurricane season brings light winds, go figure lol) Think with my 7m and my new found pumping skills I could do the 6knot wind challenge. Cheers 👍
@@EASTCOASTGONGWINGFOILING-sr6kh I tried the 5XL with a wing in almost nothing. Got it to fly and did some great long runs but pumping the whole time. Wing gives that little stability needed but great fun and practice. Not a chance in hell to turn it lol thanks for the advise
I only had a quick try with the super power soft handles ,but i just got the boom version ( heavily reduced price at the moment ) such a difference feels a way lighter and easier to handle
Hi, if you are good at pumping the wing and the foil, 6 knots is possible (im 110kg) with a 6 mtr wing. ive flown in maybe 5 knots as well with 7.5 mtr wing. with xxxl sirus you can pump the foil when the wind dies and keep going a bit longer as well 👍
Hello, I also own a 7.5 superpower and enjoy it. Could you tell me how much PSI you put in it please, because I'm afraid to explode it by overinflating since Gong does not provide pressure information. Thanks.
With the gong pump I go up to 6psi. I then do a push test on the front spar with the wing on the ground upside down If there are any big creases when I push down I will put in some more air but I keep checking until the creases are nearly gone So far that works for me on all the wings I have 👍
Thanks for your videos. I’m thinking of buying similar kit. I see that you have a large collection of foils. How different are the Curves to the Sirius in terms of early takeoff and sensitivity?- any other key differences ?
Hi thanks 👍. The curve I have is better for me in good consistent wind and can take off nice and early with my downwind board. It is very lively compared to the sirus foils. It turns a lot faster than them and is better at high speed. For me in light or even normal wind, the sirus foils I absolutely love I can ride almost at a slow walking pace with the largest sirus and it's beautiful to pump and keep going when the wind drops and they are sooooooooo silky smooth gliding along I'm not always into going fast, it's nice to chill but the sirus can get a decent speed going. I have a large one still to try more but need stronger wind for it until I get used to is but is should be fast ,👌
thank you. I dont know the numbers, but i have the leading edge of the mast in line with the front rear footstrap mount. Then my back foot is just in front of that bump where the strap would be. So my back foot is actually almost right above the foil.
@@EASTCOASTGONGWINGFOILING-sr6kh Thanks again! Your experience has led me to get a cruzader myself. Arriving tomorrow so real excited to use it in light winds
i had a sheet of flouro red vinyl so cut strips - stops me or anyone else walking into the ends when its lying on the bank + looks good in vids as you can see how wide the foils are
Thanks for your videos. I am about the same size/age as you and like the idea of a large inflatable. Would you still go with the Gong Hipe if you were to buy again? Any other gear recommendations? I am OK on wings but might buy a new foil setup.
Thanks. I wish i would have bought this downwind board first - i love it. Im happy with inflatable boards - just easier for me with storage and transport. Happy with al the Gong equipment ive bought - no issues
The Cruzader is fantastic in light wind It will take off before other normal boards in light winds 👍💪 Sometimes I need to pump the board and wing a little but it's no effort I have left friends behind on a normal board -- he told me after that there was no wind but I took off and flew away - he didnt think it was possible but it works very well 😎👍👌💪
morning. cheers dude :-) Its a 2nd hand gopro max 360. I treated the lenses with rain x this time - works well. Then i made my own go pro pole with black pvc conduit, then its just strapped to the front handles with lipo battery straps and some other bits - ill have to do a short vid. - i need to make a longer stick to velcro to the back of the wing. Have a great day 🤙🥳
@@EASTCOASTGONGWINGFOILING-sr6kh Thanks looks like a lot of fun, I’m about to take delivery of a Gong Cruzader point opted for the 6.6XL which is also 22 inch I’m hoping it will open up the lighter wind days for me.
@@hcutmore oh for sure you will be flying no problem. Im now considering one of the solid boards as well. Hope you enjoy yours. Took me about 1 hour of falling off to find my balance on the cruzader ( my balance isnt very good at the best of times 🤣)
Thank you for sharing! I'm looking at exactly the same gear. Glad it seems to be working for you 👍🏻👍🏻 I just wonder if you are somewhat hindered by the flat sticky bottom of the inflatable
Hi Edward In this board and set up not at all It wants to fly all the time In strong wind it can be tricky with too big a wing because it just wants to take off when your not ready 🤣 I've also got a 5ft 3 hipe pro inflatable - it's not really a sticky board, but compared to the Cruzader it is harder to get going The Cruzader is my favourite baby far Good luck if you get the gear 👍😀👌
Cool to see that you were the one with the most airmiles! I think I would (almost) match that with my 2021 gear, a 7m2 Gong Pulse V1 and a 2100cm2 Curve V1. But surely I would have to pump more on my Gong Hipe Pro 5.1 and would sink in each windhole whereas you would glide trough it. I have seen many people unsuccesfully trying to fly with a 5m2 and a 1400cm2 foil in light winds, although the skinny ones probably could make it.
Hi, yes i felt like i was up on foil for longer than some of the other guys. I also have a hipe pro 5ft 3" - in light winds i have to use 7.5 mtr wing and pump like crazy the wing and the board - its v hard work - im still about 110kg. There are also some other guys here who are really good and can fly on a short board with a big wing but small front foil (skinny high aspect) and still fly - they are a bit lighter than me though lol. Yes with your front foil you will struggle in the wind holes - your foil wont glide as well as high aspect so you drop and have to start all over again. Im in love with the Cruzader - in low winds sometimes i dont even have to pump to fly - its amazing and also goes upwind really easily (i struggle a lot upwind on my shorter board) 😁🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
I’ve also had a great weekend with my cruzader! I just need a bigger wing- i have 6m. Are you happy with superpower 7,5? Im considering this one but with a boom or fone cwc8m but i have a cwc6m and i dont like it.
Hi fellow Cuzader rider ! 👋 The 7.5 is really good to catch that little extra bit of wind. Its about as wide a 5 mtr still - the extra size come in the chord (from front to back). If there is really no wind or less than 6kts it gets hard to keep holding it up - it is heavy after 30 mins. Im 6ft 2 so im ok with it - just tiring on the shoulders sometimes. Ive not really used any other wings apart from gong so dont know how they compare. I'd say if its cheaper and on sale go for it - they are easy enough to sell on if you dont like it and wont lose as much money. I just looked on the site seems all superpowers 7.5 sold out. Theres gong plus 7mtr which could be good 👍
No. I did at first - just kept falling off but i soon adjusted to get the right balance. I do cheat sometimes (i do it a bit in this video) - i put the tip of the wing onto the water an use it a bit like an extra arm and that helps - just saves energy when the wind reallly drops to nothing 😁
Hi it's a good wing for me but I am 110kg and 6ft 2" tall so it's not too big for me. In very light winds it does get heavy on arms and shoulders after 30 mins But in good winds it's no problem
Awesome bud if you struggle with the chop just try to get more speed on board before standing up this really helps me . Thanks for sharing loved watching 😊 have a great week
i think i actually need to stand up sooner my balance is better then - if i stay on my knees too long im more likely to fall off (im sure my inner ear ballance is a bit effd at the moment lol - I have bad tinitus in 1 ear 🛎🛎🛎🛎🛎🛎🛎🛎
It's mad 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄👌 You can get wider wings than this but this was as big as I wanted to go I think 2024 will see quite a few people getting onto these boards 👍
Very nice. Considering a Hipe Cruzader too. 85 kgs, hesitating between the 7.00 or the 7.6…😊 they are even in width. I can foil a 117 liter hardboard with 12 knots and a 1750cm foil, 6m wing.
Think it depends what you want to use it for - for just light wind foiling, you should be ok. If you want to do true down winding or paddle up , then all the youtube vids of people who actually do that say get a board between 7 to 8ft long. Good luck if you go for it 🤞👍☺️
Hey Hans I am the same weight as you and really enjoy foiling my 7'6" plus it gives me a better chance at SUP downwinding it when the season starts again here.
I tried the curve 5xl H (165 cm) but it was very hard to control and seems sensitive. Most perturbing was the very low speed foiling. Maybe need more tries to figure it out
yes these wider wings seem quite sensitive and also i think i was foiling very close to its stall speed - these conditions were really borderline for me - i think if its average 10 knots then id be quite happy with that. Agreed its just more time needed on this foil to work out what it can and cant do and get more comfortable with it. Im just amazed how well it did I was told the larger curve H are able to turn better than the sirus but i dont really need to carve about, so the sirus is enough for me. Id like to try a larger curve H one day but that will have to wait for a while lol
Hi - I only managed about 3 short runs on Sunday as the wind was so light I need a day with more wind to really try it out but from the rides up on foil I had I think it felt quite sensitive to my inputs - I just need to get used to it more When up on foil though it felt crazy to be flying at such low speed 👍☺️
Thanks dude. I thought long and hard about it - never really spend so much money on hobbies but this one has got me hooked and im only getting older so screw retirement I'll do it now while everything still works 😇🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@EASTCOASTGONGWINGFOILING-sr6kh why not I have been foiling 3 years and spent a small fortune everything changing so quick can't keep up fancy the down wind thing but will take me a few years to save for the kit haha . Enjoy my friend, take care 🙂
Thanks for the video! I am with same setup (only 7’6” strapless board). The 65 cm Alu mast works but you have to be precise with the flight height. The 79cm HM mast gives me more freedom and is noticeably less wobbly. I can fly in 5 to 6 knots (at 65kg) without needing to pump much. The one thing where I am still struggling is the jibe, especially in light wind (narrow board, large HA foil and large wing getting backwinded is a tough combination). Guess I will need a lot more practice!
I'm waiting for delivery of my hm mast then I can try harder. I'm 110kg so wasn't really expecting to get up on foil yesterday in such low wind 🤣 I'll see how the turning and gybing goes in better wind 🤞
