Hi you can actually completely remove the anodization on the trigger guard by letting it sit in drain cleaner for a couple hours. The black coat will come right off and will reveal the bright aluminum under it!
What did you use to bend magazine klips lips to keep them even. I also have this issue and called Traxler and was told to bend magazines lip. I don't want to screw it up is there a tool to nicely bend magazines lip on magazine klip.
I did have to do some grinding to make the insert install, nothing major. But even after 3 washers I had to grind down the screw several thousandths so the screw wouldn't hit. And I had to open the left magazine lip so the last round would feed. I still like the unit. I also noticed that the factory torque on the screws was relatively light.
When you said clip, when referring to the magazine, you lost me. Learn something about weapon systems and the magazines that feed them and then make a video
I know this is an old video, but I have a couple suggestions if you still want the bottom metal to look satin silver like the factory. One is to have the dining removed by glass bead blasting, how ever I would recommend the second which is the have it cerakoted in "satin mag" finish.
Dave, were you able to use the original screws? I have a Remington 700 adl 30.06 and I want to convert it to the BDL with the same stock that you have with the kwik klip conversion kit. Which 2 screws did you reuse? While I got my gun apart I got to change my trigger to a Timney trigger due to the Remington recall. Did you have to do any remodifiction to the stock when installing to the Kwik Klip? I'm looking to get the OD green stock or the Chile green stock from Hogue. Thank You!
Dave, 1 more question? We're you able to reuse the same screws when you did the modification? I have seen a RU-vid video from guy from Brownells, side that when changing to the Kwik klip conversion kit, must use a shorter front screw! I was wondering if I need to replace it? Thanks
Sorry for the late response. I reused the original screws. At this point I don't remember if the kit included washers or if I bought some separately, but I needed to use some washers to keep the bolt from hanging up on the front (muzzle-end) screw. Good luck.
I have this conversion kit at home. the small clip is fine and works well, but the 10 round which is only an 8 round because I use 300 win in mine. Here's the problem I have, when putting the 10 clip in (9 rounds) it is still loose and wiggles around even snapped in. Have you considered putting runners for the sides of the 10 round clip inside the rifle insertion for the 10 round clip to make it more snug and so it won't wiggle
I really haven't used the 10-round mag much, so I haven't put any thought into it. Maybe once the zombie apocalypse happens I'll give it a bit more time.
I have a 700 model that I also have had to bend the left flaps on the clips, but Have you notices that the Kit does not have the guides for the clips to make them snug. I have done some research on this kit and I have been told by a gunny that you can make guides with sheet metal and crazy glue, but he did make sure to tell me to measure accurately so the clips will pop out and pop in with out any interference. What I am referring to is the 10 round clip if you look at the front of the clip you see the lines indented into the clip and then look at the kit you don't see the guides. Just throwing the idea out there to see if anyone else has come out a better idea for snugness.
I'm seasick. Instead of aimlessly wandering the camera view everywhere, lock the darn thing in a tripod. The constantly changing viewpoint of the moving lens doesn't allow the viewer's eyes to focus on what SHOULD be the focal point of the video topic, the bottom metal.
I had a gunsmith install one of these on my Rem model 78 over 20 years ago. The M78 was basically a plain, no frills 700 ADL. I switched from the standard plain birch stock to a Ramline solid fiberglass stock for the BDL pattern. I had the gunsmith glass bed and fit the stock and magazine kit all at the same time. I would never trade the rifle and like yours the fit is a tad dicey but works. My 4 rounds mags fit flush with no gap but the fit is very tight where I had to smack it with my palm to get it to click into place but once there is hold well. I rarely use the 10 rounder for anything.
I agree with Randy H you seen like a diy type of guy. if you want the aluminum finish to match the ss bead or sand blast then clear coat with a matte clear and it will match the ss finish of the barreled action great looking set up thank you for the informative video very helpful!!!
One suggestion turn up your volume on your recorder. I had to use head phones to hear your video. I found using polermer magazines made by Accuracy International. They do not mar the finish of your rifle and that small space is fixed. They fit far better just an FYI
for tactical purposes, how much do extra 10 round mags cost? I have a Mossberg mvp in 308 and it takes ar10 and m1a mags which im sure r a lot cheaper than these. I may get a Remington 700 in 30-06 someday and am considering doing a mag conversion, but the question is, is it worth it? or should I just leave it with the floor plate and rely on my mvp as my only tactical option for a bolt action?
A Remington 700 in 30-06? First question, what's the purpose for the caliber? Hunting is really it for that round, plinking is too expensive. And a mag conversion for a 30-06 bolt gun is non existent, so if you really want a detachable box mag for a bolt gun, go with something more common. Remington 700s are nice guns though I had one myself, was my favorite gun!
redneckmini14 this isn't the caliber for you man, this round isn't as accurate as the .308 so long ranges are a little sketchy. But hunting is a good place for the 30-06, knockdown power is high and you're accurate enough for 400 yards but not for 1000 yards, So you're a little limited. The .308 is cheaper to shoot, same power, but cheaper all around. I highly highly advise the .308 because ammo is cheap and easy to find anywhere, accessories (barrels, bolts, parts in general, mag conversions) are easy to find too. Go with the .308 its just better, and a Garand is heavy as hell and not as accurate as the .308
crackalackin167 I think you may be underestimating the 30-06. It's far more versitile then the 308 with a wider verity of bullet sizes and for long range it will preform just as well as a 308 out to 1k yards. The 308 only came into being because the army wanted the exact same performance as a 30-06 in a smaller package. More rounds in a box more boxes in a crate more crates on a plane. Legistics is the only reason the 308 was made. Don't belive me go shoot them side by side with quality rounds and you'll be surprised I promis.
in reference your comment about finish.... sand it down with 1000 grit then clear coat it so the aluminum doesn't discolor and it should be halfass like the stainless
Would have been nice after watching that WHOLE video if you would have put the 10 round magazine in the rifle as a comparison... Maybe take it all apart and do another install video and show the 10 round magazine in it!!!...
I doubt it's possible without spending a ton of money, if at all. A floor plate model like mine has feed lips built into the action. The DM versions have feed lips that are part of the magazine, not the action.
Great review. I just got one of these. I notes the same flaws as you but overall I'm happy. I got mine painted in Ceracote to match the stainless barrel and action. Looks nice and apparently it's durable but we'll see after some field use.
Very cool. Do you have any pics to share or could you reply with a video? I'd love to see what it looks like. Be sure to report back how the new finish holds up.
Dave Burlingame if i were you i would get the magazine and the entire trigger guard assembly cerakoted in an stainless steel color if you want to see a nice cerakote job i can email you my Remington 700 with an detachable magazine looks really nice and i proud with it
I used to shoot some competition and we used a trick to bling up some of the parts. Most of the after market parts are parkerized. You can remove the finish with Easy Off oven cleaner. Just spray it on, let it sit and then wipe it off. This will leave a matt style finish. If you want it to shine you will need a polishing wheel and some polish. I used a dremel on the small and hard to get to spots.
