This all hurts so much. I was raised without religion because my mom was Catholic, my dad Jewish. I was left to choose. At age 13 I had a quiet discussion with my dad about his beliefs - and then I began my journey to official conversion to Judaism. I completed that journey when I was 20. So much of the journey included trying to understand the seemingly endless hatred of Jews throughout the world, but in the end there is no way to truly understand that kind of hatred. I am now 76 and to see in recent weeks the ugly feelings rise up again is akin to reopening an extremely painful wound. So much of the hatred aimed at Israel seems to be just a modern excuse to flaunt antisemitism. I have no hatred of the Palestinian people - no Jew in her right mind would wish to inflict that pain on anyone. Too many of our people have been on the receiving end of that hate and violence! But Hamas is evil and somehow must be stopped. I just don’t know how. And the hurt just goes on and on.
I love David Draiman he has a beautiful heart and is very compassionate and he deserves all of out respect and love all of the great things he has done for not only his friends fan and also the Jewish people
What kills me is that I don’t know what the solution here is, except to learn how to live together peacefully. Israel has a right to defend itself, but as this has dragged on in Gaza, it looks like genocide rather than defence. No side is right in the violence they chose, but I feel sorry for all the women and children that are getting caught up in this. When the initial attach happened, I knew this would get ugly. Neither side has an inherent right to the land over the other. But everyone has a right to safety and security. I wish I knew what the solution is. TBH, the people that can’t learn to live together can go fuck themselves. It’s the same damn god ffs. Hamas is evil, and the longer this drags on, Israel hasn’t been much better. Iran too. It’s just terrible how complicated the whole thing is, and no one seems to be interested in peace.
