To be honest, if you wanna live more comfortably in Thailand. You have to learn some basic Thai language for communicate with the locals. It will be better for you. For expats, Philippines might be the better choice over Thailand. Using English in Philippines is much easier. But if you don’t mind learning Thai. Thailand is a good choice as well.😁
I completely agree with you, same with Vietnam. It's much more difficult to learn Thai and Vietnamese, but PH is much easier to integrate. Where have you been in SE Asia?

Medical expenses and health care Infrastructure and travel Including expenses Safety of life and property friendliness of people Accommodation prices and quality of accommodation internet speed Coverage and stability of the internet Including internet prices Deliciousness and variety of food as well as the internationalism of the food. Public parks and exercise facilities Facilities such as fitness, mall, shops Being a hub and convenient for international travel and inexpensive The law is international. Includes passport proposals Cleanliness of the country and environmental responsibility Language and Communication You check each one out and you will know which country is best for you. Among these 3 countries, for each aspect, you can rate them as best 1, average 2, and average 3, and then sum up the scores to see which country is best for people. Except that he should have a wife living in that country.
Rented accommodation will be cheap or expensive depending on the location. Room size and amenities as well including cleanliness and activities in the accommodation
My buddy cody moved to Vietnam-nha trang, i went to visit him last month. He loves loves loves everything about Vietnam from cost of living, food, and women. Everything in the USA- socal cali is expensive!!¡!! Especially the women! Dating is hard Women wants everything but offered nothing on return.
Expats is a wide net -- I'm an old fart - single 'retired' and looking for a high value low budget location for retirement ! That criteria - and - simple Geography should include Cambodia in this discussion ? > Instantly - for me - Siem Reap jumps right up near the top spot. The - "bang for your buck" - competes with just about anybody !!! - - - Truthfully - language is an issue in these comparisons - and SR has more than enough spoken - also on menus & business signs + they even take your USD ! -- And - the retirement visa is the best / cheap and easy. - - - Where as Thailand & Vietnam have little English by comparison (?) the Philippines has almost everybody speaking English. Also - up to 70% lower cost of living can be had there as well. The visa requirements in both Thailand and Vietnam are much less favorable also ! Burdened with pain in the ass visa runs every 90 days or expensive financial requirements - neither country is nearly as favorable. - - - Not too difficult for me to decide to eliminate those two for "retirement" and simply visit. --?-- Try out the other 2 countries and see how they fit you - for long term stays !

@@thestoryofkt yes the place is amazing to swim enjoying the local vibes but one thing separate from all of them if you need a friend definitely is the philippines. Just my observation from all the places I visit in SEA
Don't even think about the Philippines. Scammers, thieves, and various other criminals are the order of the day. There are showcases on Manila streets displaying photos of wanted criminals. Never, ever leave your drink even for a minute...you'll wake up next morning in your room with all your cash gone, and can't even remember how you even got back. Many expats have left because of the crime situation. Thailand is a good place to be. The prices are reasonable, the culture is wonderful and the country is fairly safe. Be careful when you go to Pattaya or Phuket....The scammers there are everywhere. Vietnam has everything for an Expat, except a retirement or long term visa, so you'll be doing visa runs every 3 month. The people are super friendly. The country is safe, and medical care is reasonable. It's also the least expensive of the three countries. Here is my advise to Expats, no matter where you end up, stay AWAY from mass tourism, adjust to the country's culture. YOU are a guest in the country, so don't wave your home country's flag in front of the locals. Just fit in. The rewards coming back to you will amaze you! I have seen apartments similar to his in Saigon for 7-10 million VND. These apartments are usually in older buildings and have no facilities. The heaviest cost is entertainment, in South East Asia every night can be Friday night and this will kill any budget. You can definitely live under 1k USD but do you want that kind of life? He seems happy in Hanoi, I went to a networking session and I heard of foreigners and expats that they want to get out of Hanoi and move to Saigon. The way of life, the people, the way things are done just somehow doesn’t appeal to most foreigners. I have only visited Hanoi briefly and never lived there so I can’t comment.
