The average GWS crowd in 2024 a year when they finished in the top 4 was only 10,000. The Giants are clearly the biggest mistake the AFL has ever made. Tasmania will have bigger crowds than the GWS on day 1.
This may be recency bias but Cripps winning it after smashing that dude and getting his two week suspension overturned and then Neale getting it last year, but years over Bont whos been insane the last two years has been pretty wild.
I'm kind of surprised Nat Fyfe didn't even get an honorable mention. Dude had a Chris Judd feel about him when he was fit and healthy. No one could touch him and his ball skills were elite. Dual-Browlow medalist as well.
Tony Lockett is the Bradman of the VFL/AFL.. he is the most prolific scorer and should be considered. Barrie Robran is also a candidate. Inaugural inductee to legend status and never played in the VFL.. 3 magarey medals, 2 flags.. good video mate but you can tell you age and knowledge is still growing haha
Mathew Scarlett kills silvagni all Silvagni did was pull on jumpers not much skill in that Lockett kicked 10 on him and 13 and regular 7’s don’t believe the Carlton supporters Harris andrews is much better than him as was Alex dance and Dylan grimes
I think the 'need to win a flag to be the GOAT' argument is more true for sports such as basketball, where there are only 5 players on the court, and 10 in a team in total, in a small confined area. If you are that good, you should be able to elevate another few guys around you on a basketball court to the highest level. The difference 1 man makes in that sense is enormous. Nearly every play can be designed to go through your superstar, further heightening their influence. But AFL footy? There are 18 guys per team on a huge paddock. 1 guy can't control an entire offense like they can in other sports, or defend multiple people. The team matters more in winning flags than individual players. The argument for the individual GOAT needs to be based on individual stats. So while there is merit to the argument in general, it's hard to apply it to AFL footy.
Polly Farmer ( they changed the rules because of him ) Ian Stewart (won 3 Brownlows ). Both before my time but surely extend the list for me it's Ablett snr Ablett jnr Carey Matthews raffle the rest Dusty is maybe 26
rieds first 10 games were crackers... until mids worked out what he was doing and shut him down. He cant play away either. loves being centre of attention.
Look, the Brownlow was always the fairest and best -- not the other war around. There's lots of theories on how the umpires couldn't get it right. There was the blonde theory, the midfield medal theory, and the 'don't diss the umpire theory'. There were many more, but the Brownlow rarely ever tracked with the 'most valuable player' -- however it was worked out. Scott Wynd, Barry Round, and so many others reaped an award they did not deserve to hold.
Can't deny that players like him and Nick Daicos are generational talents, and they're only just getting started. People will be talking about those two for decades. Harley will also improve even more when he learns to not get so rattled by taggers, and instead push all focus towards the game.
Why Leigh Mathews is the GOAT:11 times in top 3 in Hawthorn B&F between 1971 to 1982,including 8 wins,in a top side.Only missed 1979 because he missed 9 games.Skilton and Murray won 9 each but for lowly sides.
The best career in AFL history is Malcolm Blight. Magarey & Ken Farmer medals, Brownlow & Norm Smith medals. Two VFL premierships as a player and two AFL premierships as a coach. Countless GF appearances. Captained SA & Victoria. He also was as talented as anybody who’s ever played the game.
