Long time runescape player here so i know a lot about it. i still dont understand the fight between EoC and old school. Ability bars help make combat fun and different while also giving QoL and much more. Its pushing runescape towards modern mmos and i dont think thats a bad thing specifically how rs 3 makes things easier and faster now helping people who dont have forever to grind.
OSRS isnt even a nostalgic game anymore. It is not the same game we grew up with, the entire mid-late game content has completely changed. Imagine if in 2024 everyones best gear slot was still barrows, that would be nostalgia. OSRS is the classic WoW that classic wow players wanted it to be, its just too bad blizzard refuses to listen to the player base. I remember when they put out a poll to ask if players wanted Classic WoW cataclysm and the majority said no and they said "Lets do it anyways" and now barely anyone is playing it lmao. You can still find a link to the announcement in 2007 when runescape hit 1 million players.....if its just nostalgia how has the player base grown more than what it was?

Honey Combs and Alphabits cereal changed their recipe awhile back and the texture went to shit. They are objectively worse now and wanting the original texture back is not nostalgia.
from like 33:00 to 35:00 is all that really needs to be said. nostalgia brought probably like 70%~ of the player base. the updates and new content kept us here. the other 30%~ is because how successful the game has been. asmon is 100% correct saying this game would not exist without nostalgia. BUT there is a reason osrs is still alive and thriving and wow is dying. ive been playing rs since 2004 and i cannot deny asmon has some true statements. but nostalgia has not kept us here
I played around 2004 when I was in 4th grade. I remember NOTHING about the game except for party hats and “buying gf”. Nostalgia BARELY contributed to getting me back through the door in 2021. I’m really confused as to why he claims it’s such a huge factor when it’s an argument of objectivity rather than subjectivity. My guess is that it’s because he truly doesn’t know the history of how bad the game got. WOW Classic may have been nostalgia, but OSRS became a thing because RS3 became a dumpster fire.
asmon doesn't even like video games anymore, he watches anti woke or basically anyone that bitches about video games for 70% of his stream. Then at the end of the stream he'll give a pity 3-4 hours of gameplay where he looks bored out of his mind.
Runescape didn't do it 7 years before WoW did, there were always private servers since the very first WoW expansion. The retail playerbase just didn't catch on until WoW was at its lowest point and Nostalrius was the current private server people were playing on. It's more fair to say that Old School was an eventuality for both games, and Runescape got there first.

I have been playing Runescape since 2006. I have massive nostalgia for the game I played as a kid. I continue to play the original game rather than old school because oldschool just doesn't hit that nostalgia. Its way too different, the community is different, and its just not the same. If Asmond's argument is that nostalgia is a factor, than its a factor that is actively pushing players like me away.
If graphics mattered Terraria would not be as popular as it is. Dayz has had the same graphics since it came out and it has a player base that prefers it over similar fps.
The halo argument is shit, I think everyone that likes the first 6 games (CE - Halo 4) has halo 5 as the worst or actively dislike it (I fucking hate it) and halo infintie as a meh game
7:50 True! He couldn't replace one-hand mace with a one-hand sword and the problem was that one weapon was a blunt weapon and the second one was an edged one. And he is right. These skills should be greyed out and not that you have to remove gems/skills before you are able to use this weapon even with skills that don't care about the weapon type. They have to fix this.
It's not just a skill issue mate, comprehension issue as well. POE2 was trying to use more common sense with weapon and skill dynamics for melee (like clubs and maces should be the slammy wammy and the axes and swords should be the slashy wooshy) so that it'd be easier for new players to understand builds. It's funny how it's the other way around for you.

It's funny, your suggestion with the incompatible weapon, it works like that in PoE 1. You can swap to any weapon, if it's not compatible, it greys out the skill and says "skill can't be used" in a tooltip. In your video says on the top "Requires: Two Hand Mace, One Hand Mace". It's nice to see someone without any experience try it, I did the same with the loot when I started playing PoE 1. They already made the loot more meaningful and drop less in PoE 2, in the first game it's just awful. Thanks to loot filters you don't notice it as much but there are probably thousands of items dropped in a single area in the endgame, you just hide almost all of it. I am very excited about PoE 2 but what I don't like is that everything is so grey. I like the art style of the equipment but why does it look like it's made out of stone...
