Hey guys! My name is Alyssa and Welcome to my pet channel. My content mostly consists of guinea pigs as that is how I started this channel, but I do include some rabbit and dog content from time to time. I am by no means a professional and if you have any serious problems with your pets, especially medical, you should go seek out help from vets or other animal professionals. This channel is meant to entertain and hopefully educate a few of you on ways to look after and treat you pigs. If you like my content please like and subscribe it means the world to me. If not that’s okay too. Either way I hope you enjoy!
Hii! I’m planning on getting guinea pigs and found a cage similar to yours on Amazon and was wondering how tall the squares are because I’m unsure if it’s tall enough for the piggies ❤ also love your videos so much and can’t wait to get my guinea pigs 💓
More than any other video, you showed me how to build my own guinea pig cage. Not totally from scratch, but not from a box either. I'll look at other videos of yours to see if I can tell, but what is the solid bottom of the cage - white laminated wood boards (not sure what it's called)? And then what did you put on top of that as the base of the cage? Maybe you said it and I missed it. It looks like poster board. Last question...how are you purchasing all of those 12" x 12" pieces? They look expensive. I'm so glad that you give your piggies so much space! My 18 year old son does, too, but want a different cage for them. He has 2.
Yes, I have wooden boards under my cage. This isn’t necessary as such but it does just make it more structurally intact as it’s on a table and also my cage is too big to fit on the regular table so it gives them more room. We got them from B&Q if you’re wondering. The 12x12 grids are a little pricey but not unreasonable. Here is the link to them if you’re interested- www.amazon.co.uk/SONGMICS-Storage-Interlocking-Shelving-Bathroom/dp/B07877N1HL/ref=mp_s_a_1_10_sspa?crid=2S0PIVCL7O1R5&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.7hyRyLr8CN_E1SLMhNreTu-FhlqUaa2zfM3NN9oP05pxhdFEaoctpvZtT65CFtCpBuyl37DflM9D_qsPGYaR2l4q2keEAXyBZ1-jih-1vt5kSG8O8R8K1RkLRvA6kR79Ha1yTBrBl6AI9TeJq35hW__l2p-lV21yWMYGdH1zIf5vcpTt_BkW9wflMAAcLgPWU1Rf2FzZfOywvUTTgvACqA.v98W8oflMikr64xJIIz47_Ix9eZqIuYgxupZ81HkIJo&dib_tag=se&keywords=songmics%2Bstorage%2Bcubes&qid=1712512625&sprefix=songmics%2Bstorage%2Caps%2C115&sr=8-10-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfbXRm&psc=1&th=1. Hope this helps!!
And thank you so much for your comment. I’m sure your son looks after them very well. Seen as you have two, if they’re girls I’d say 10 sq ft would be a lovely size. If boys I’d say 12 sq ft really, if he’s getting them a new cage.
@@GuineaSquiggles Thank you so much for your quick reply. My son absolutely loves and takes good care of his guineas, both males. And they are now in a 15 square foot cage, if I've got that right (60 inches x 30 inches). But the cage is high and so it's hard to get to them or to clean. I did find 14"x14" grid pieces on amazon that I will eventually buy. Doing a whole new set-up will cost probably $150 for me in Indiana (USA). It's set up on 2 card tables right now and the base is a waterproof material. I just loved seeing how you made yours custom with the wooden boards to extend the size of your table so it could support the cage. And I am sewing pee-pads, a very large one. It just needs to be improved from what it is, though at least they have a lot of space and love. I subcribed because your cage set-up and explanation best matched what I invisioned. I just wanted to see how someone else actually did it - and you did that! Thanks for the video and the reply! Have a blessed day! 💙💚
@@saintinlower48 awww thank you so much! Those boys sound like they’re going to have an amazing set up and like they have an amazing home with you guys! 💕
I love getting new things for my piggies, can you share the links to the bar and rose bowl please.my own used to do floor time but as they get older I agree, mine they prefer their cage too as they have so much room in it to run around .
So sorry, its not an easy decision to have to make, sadly sometimes you have to consider their quality of life, thinking of you and your other piggies ❤

@@GuineaSquiggles the guinea pig I'm getting is a Singleton, he is from a rescue and specifically doesn't do well with any other pig! I got him a 2x5 c&c cage and have been doing loads of research!
I hope you decide to take the white guinea pig to the vet again. I don't mean this hatefully, just hate seeing animals ill. If the pain meds she was on last year seemed to help at the time, and she's scrunching up a lot like in this video(a sign of pain), she would most likely benefit from it. She should REALLY be on critical care if her weight is that low, especially if it dropped quickly. Her body obviously isn't getting what it needs from her food. Once again, I hope you don't take this hatefully because you seem very sweet and your animals look well looked after, I just hate the thought of something possibly being overlooked. Hope the baby feels a bit better soon either way❤
I completely understand your concern as I would feel similar if I didn’t know the full situation of an animal. I am keeping a really close eye on her at the moment and if her behaviour changes she will be taken straight to the vet. However, she is acting her usual self and enjoying being stroked, is running around and wheeking, coming to me for food etc. She was scrunching up but this is something she has always done even before her digestive issues. Guinea Pigs also can scrunch up more when they’re eating (especially veggies) as to appear bigger so that the others won’t steal their food. Critical Care is a good idea so I might try it, but it is more difficult to get where I live than in places like America but I’ll have a see. Her digestive problems are unfortunately chronic issues so they are going to be with her for the rest of her life meaning there is not much that my vets can do - especially seen as she isn’t really having bloat issues like she used to. But yes thank you for you concern and advice and I will keep looking after her and making sure she is okay as well as giving everyone updates on the channel x
