We have the same situation in Sweden. Definitely not an American problem. Discipline issues, parents who can't or won't help. Kids who are neuro divergent and should be in a different type of school, management that blames the teachers for poor relationship building and makes them book meetings after school with parents to discuss problem behavior etc. The list goes on....

This is so sad for those kids who want to learn. There's no equity or equality in teaching anymore. I pray for change. Because we really need our educators.
It's quite bleak career choice reading these comments. I teach in China for $2.5k per month and do private on side. More profitable and lots of free time. They also pay for housing.

Simply write your intention to retire on paper and hand a copy to your Prinicipal and another to your HR admin. Have them acknowledge reciept in writing with their signature. Do not show up in September. Done. As long as the Boards of Education refuse to make changes, the crisis will only worsen.
It think the system makes it difficult for teachers on purpose. I live in Poland, have spent many years as a teacher and I am horrified at what is going on at schools in Poland now. Students are ok, but the government is doing everything to ruin the education. Teachers cannot set homework any more, students don't need to have their notebooks, they don't have to take notes, they don't have to use books, they cannot be punished for cheating at test, and so on. Before, our education levels where quite high, now it seems schools are supposed to produce half-idiots.
I think the computer changed teaching. I think Making a teacher write a Bible of lesson plans with standards is unnecessary! You have to work after work to keep up!
Being a coach as a teacher has its benefits. We typically get more respect from other teachers, students and parents. We are less emotional and typically our purpose is beyond the classroom. I lived life first then started teaching.
Teacher brought off this on themselves because they let wok crap in and allow principles and school boards and districts demand crap that not part of the job. Teachers get paid a crap load.
My license is up for renewal at the end of this school year. I want to leave the profession and have started to look into alternative career paths. I can't decide if I should stick it out so my license gets renewed (though now I'm thinking if I met the criteria it may not matter) just in case I need it. Yet if an opportunity comes up, then maybe I need to just walk away.
Lucky! I have no choice. Been stuck for 4 years. I use to love going to school but the past 3 years I hate it. I have no options. I teach full time & I’m poor struggling to pay bills!
I think it all started when they took prayer out of school. And if you don't agree with prayer that's fine but then they took out corporal punishment which was a huge mistake and then the teachers can't discipline the students which isn't even bigger mistake teachers can't do anything to have no control over the students and the parents back the students bad behavior up the kids learn from their parents it's a nightmare there's no way I would ever be a teacher. Not in today's age. When I was in school if I got in trouble even a little bit and I got spanked at school I got spanked twice as bad at home and I deserved it and then my dad made me go and apologize to the teacher which was the right thing to do
