The digital world impacts us all, and it should be accessible to all, including those with significant disabilities. Google has gone to great efforts to improve the access to internet information for those who are blind, deaf and otherwise disabled. Some believe you should only make things accessible once a disabled person has requested that access, but those of us who use the internet know, that information changes daily, and so we need to make that information available to all. True freedom lies in providing accurate information; those without that information are subject to discriminatory practices. This site is dedicated to helping content creators so that they can improve their ability to make everything in the digital world accessible.
Is there a way to manually emphasize a word in text, say in a .docx file, so Balabolka reads it louder? Like maybe with double quotes: There "is" a way to do this, so the word IS will be spoken louder? If not double quotes on both sides of the word or phrase, single quotes, two single quotes on each side instead of double quotes, maybe asterisks, exclamation marks, brackets [ ], parentheses { }, slants / / or \\, or vertical bars | |, or any other way known to work so a word or phrase can be emphasized by Balabolka (or any TTS) saying it louder when Balabolka (or any TTS) does not do it by itself.
It's easier to clear all reading order tags than rebuild the order, adobe acts weird when dragging order tags around i noticed for screen readers like JAWS
What do you do with an attendance "checklist" that was made with a table? They didn't make a real checklist. They made small columns for the checkboxes and then a wider column for the names but with 2 sets of columns across (so 4 coulumns total). The boxes are 'checked' with an 'x' for people in attendance and others are blank as some people for those absent. So I dragged the content out of the table but now it reads as one giant P line: "name1 X name2 X name3 name4, etc." with x's between names. There is no context now. The list should be represented differently with context:" In attendance: name2, name3, etc.", and, "Not in attendance: name1, name4, etc." Is there any correct way to do this? Example: | | name1 | X | name2 -------------------------------------- | X | name3 | | name4 The vertical pipes here represent the column dividers.
Hello Mr. White, I appreciate your content. I would like to add that you can arrange the stacking order of the elements using the Content panel, so that you don't have to move text elements from their original position. Is there a reason I shouldn't do it this way?
You're making it too complicated for a newbie just learning Excel which are. If you want to make this a bit simpler, press f6 and highlight the seat name, and hit your applications key and go down to rename. Does the same thing and it's a lot quicker than going through the menus.
Thank you for this excellent demonstration. I've become fairly proficient at writing general text, but have struggled with coding. I will utilize some of these tips!
Doesn't work anymore tho Edit: Sorry, turns out I needed to not just close the browser, but forcibly close it in the task manager as well to force the settings to take effect. Thanks! Did not know I needed to close the browser and that moved me in the right direction
Very misleading title. This is an Excel tutorial for beginners, not a JAWS tutorial. I've just watched the first three in the series. I won't be watching ny more.
I used to use subtitle horse in 2019 I believe, but coming back to it in 2022, I can't figure out how I downloaded the mp4 file again after having added the subtitles. Now when I check, I can really only export text files and not mp4 or move. What can I do to solve this issue? I've tried converting the JSON and other file formats that I can export into mp4, but I've had success finding something I can use online and for free
Thanks for trying to show us some basic excel formatting. I could not quite follow which columns you were formatting the decimal points on, but that is only because I could not see how you were doing it. :). This is perfectly adequate for a sighted user.
Thanks, this is clearly explained and helpful. Why does the language switching work for some synthesizers and not others. Found that eloquence set for English doesn't read properly marked up Spanish but when I switch to the built-in ng one for NVDA it reads the Spanish in my test document properly.
I have been desperately trying to understand why PDF documents are so difficult to work with. Various accessibility software/ screen readers have been useless when trying to get certain documents to read aloud (particularly journal articles). I have found that most people are unaware of these issues and there is a lack of understanding amongst academics. I have been working to understand the underlying cause so that I can rectify documents myself, I spent an hour on webchat with Adobe today and it was horrendous. The person had no idea what I was talking about. I was interested in getting adobe, to help with scholarly reading and I was trying to explain that the apps I use, have trouble with reading aloud certain portions of the text, as if there is invisible formatting. The same can be seen when the pdf is converted into a word doc, the parts that don't read out or are read incorrectly (in the pdf) can be transformed into symbols, huge gaps, random fonts or completely different words in the resulting word doc. The webchat person informed me that Adobe will have issues with maths formulas from time to time and that I should not use it for that. I assume that was in response to the mention of symbols. Anyway, I digress. I wanted to say thank you for your video. I have found it very hard to explain the problems I have had, I have paused the video at 2:07 because already I feel I am beginning to understand these previously invisible problems. Thank you again :)
