The subsidy program the NDP has created to cover up to 40% of a home’s cost is an attempt to tackle the affordability crisis in British Columbia, but it comes with challenges. The plan aims to make housing more accessible for first-time buyers by essentially having the government co-own a portion of the property. While this may reduce the initial cost burden for homebuyers, it also means the government will take a share of the profits when the house is sold, which could limit personal wealth growth from home ownership. One concern is whether this truly promotes long-term home equity and financial independence. The program does provide an entry point into the market, but it may not create the same sense of ownership as traditional home-buying methods, where the homeowner has full equity over time. For British Columbia, making home ownership and equity more accessible might involve alternative strategies, such as: • Easier access to credit: Reducing barriers to obtaining mortgages and loans could allow more people to enter the market. • Revising zoning laws: Increasing supply by making it easier to build, especially in urban centers, can relieve some pressure. • Reducing debt: Offering financial literacy programs and debt-reduction schemes could help individuals manage their finances more effectively, making home ownership more feasible without government intervention. #20 is the worst. Easy fix! Have a #20 turn down downtown, end at Commercial & Broadway & go back downtown. Have another bus start at Commercial & Broadway and go up Victoria to Marine drive and loop back down to Commercial & Broadway. Instead you have the 20 inch its way around downtown core, inch its way down East Hastings and then crawl up Commercial. PS: Wash them too!
The as holes in this world who run around telling others what to do and what not to do are the root cause for every problem that exists. Cops, politicians, lawyers, karens and their sort have to go.
At the end of the day, you need something to look forward to, otherwise what's the motivation? If someone is telling you to clean up your act so you can work yourself to death and still struggle to pay your bills, feel lonely and miserable like everyone else... you're not thrilled that's your prize.
A guy down the street from me built a 2 story garage without permits. He paid the fine and the city put a lean on his property 20 years ago. He still lives there and the garage still stands.
seeing the place in person isn't really a solid verification. theres another cbc story on youtube of someone who saw the space and still got scammed. the scam involved a real estate agent / realtor posing as a landlord - so they were able to access the premises. once money paid -> ghost.
I wento high school from 2005 to 2009 and it was really no different. I came out in 2010 at age 20 and sometimes i wonder what it would have been like if I came out in high school. Sometimes i try not to think about it.

I totally feel this pain. I was forced off the city Victoria by-law for attempting to live off the electronic grid. Ended up selling the home for cash to a family in India 🇮🇳 because no Canadian could afford it due to the reconstruction.
