As far as time, I find Black ppl in most places have a problem with arriving on time. We call it CP time over here, but like you said don't do that in professional environments. Do they target specific types of phones to steal b/c mine is cheap.
One hundred percent ♥️ , the tipping problem in Johannesburg is very rude , we pay mad high prices for a cappuccino or tea , then also to tip on top of the high prices in a coffee shop where there is not even a view of anything outside and the airpollution in Greenstone Hill is already bad enough too , to sit outside. People here are from one Exteme to the other regarding meeting time. Food is mad expensive in Johannesburg , and you have to shop around , but Foodlovers is decent. . . In South Africa everyone is looking after themselves , expect to struggle for emotional support or being safe , I have been struggling to get my freedom from oppressive Sanlam Trust for 20years , the finance departments in South Africa don't have ethics regarding your freedom or consideration if you are kept hostage by a Curator , don't come here thinking your money is safe unless you have done Plenty of Research and have an attorney who can advise you properly. Johannesburg South Africa , is not what it's advertised as if you don't have plenty of money or a business here

You posted this a while ago but I saw this now, so here is something I found interesting ... I am a Saffa born and bred, and I worked and lived in mainland China for a few years. While I was there I definitely felt special and there was some "fuss" made - or so I thought. Hehehe! When I was already back in Johannesburg for a while I worked with Chinese people online and I found out much more about the nuances that I was clueless about before. I was told by a Chinese person (and others loudly agreed) that it is customary and polite for them to invite you to their house for a meal. As Westerners we very often accept these invitations and actually this makes the Chinese person cringe inside. They will never ever show this though and so the mistake is made, and no chance exists for us to learn or for them to teach us - there were a number of similar polite gestures which would be better left to quietly die away or even outright thanked but not accepted. From my point of view I can imagine that you are very correct in saying integrating here is very difficult. All the best to you! Oh, and even if it is late - welcome to SA!!!

It's easier to integrate in South Africa if you speak one of the Nguni languages. People from other Southern African can fit in easily in South Africa because of the commonality of languages
I'm planning on relocating to tanzania. I've been to arusha, Dar, Mwanza and Zanzibar. Im highly considering mwanza because it was the cleanest. Overall, I love tanzanians and I always feel so welcomed and safe. As an american there is a lot that I dislike about Tanzania because America is more like south Africa in regard to being on time, super markets, tipping(%15), etc. I really dislike the infrastructure in Tanzania and have been recently thinking about south Africa but I honestly am not trying to leave one very unsafe and racist country to move to another. Looking to visit south Africa a few times and then make decision.
You can absolutely say it because you are from Tanzania, there is no country on earth with the smiles, peace and care as you guys have. The heart of Africa is truly in Tanzania, and to find your own African heart, go to Malawi.
Most important rule: Never walk with a phone or an expensive bag on a street in South Africa because that's an 'invitation' towards these criminals. People do not help because these criminals are quite armed and dangerous so they fear for their lives.
The fact that you were in a robbery situation and didn't get help does not translate into South Africans not being helpful. And just using your unfortunate experience to judge this country is quite narrow minded as well. Why would you leave your beautiful homeland to just come here and complain? I follow people from USA who moved here and don't raise the petty issues you're raising here. Very disappointing.

you are a very nice person to listen to but you could have interspersed some pics of the specific places you refer to. directly intervening in a crime would rarely be useful and of course you could be viscously attacked, better to use cell phone to take pic or video and call police, let them take required measures.
