In this age off MMA, there are lots of stories of bullies who think they’re going to steamroll a victim, and it doesn’t go their way… There is a great one on RU-vid about two smallish guys in a public, I think it was a bar, bathroom, and 2 preppy looking, quite a bit bigger, Oklahoma college football players were picking on the guys, and the 2 regular dudes really put the hurt on the football players… It usually takes one guy to stand up against the bully, especially if he busts the bully up a little, and you will see what is called and attitude adjustment.

I liked the Head Games album. To me, it sounds like they just wanted a smaller band so Mick could take more control of the band and get paid more. Once you have that name brand recognition with three strong albums and a good live following, you can call the shots.

Here's a Factoid: Even though the Yardbirds released Heart Full of Soul in Britain a full month before Keith Richards even wrote "Satisfaction", their Label Epic didn't release Heart Full of Soul in the USA until a month after the Stones had already released Satisfaction there! In fact to this day a great number of American fans think it was the Stones and not the Yardbirds who unleashed the Fuzz on the world!

Guys and girls on the Westside of Jacksonville settled disputes with their fist. You run that gator to someone back in the day, you better be able to back it up. Redneck girls would instigate boys to fight in school, and when drinking at parties or bars. It was taken very seriously if you disrespected a girl or a guy in public. Ronnie was not a monster or a bully. Ronnie had heart, and would never take crap off of anyone. Respect was not taken lightly back in the day. Dads would tell you to fight or make friends. But never back down under no circumstances. I got in fights with kids that would stand out in the yard with their parents coaching them. The boys in the band that grew up with Ronnie on the Westside , knew if you messed with the bull, you got the horns. Ronnie was a medium sized guy, that was strong and fast. If someone shot you the middle finger, you would slam on the brakes and run them down and fight them. That was the way it was back them. Gary tells stories of many times Ronnie protected the guys in bar fights, with the rednecks that did not like their hippy long hair looks. All of the band members drank and partied. The truth be known, the times they talked about Ronnie fighting them, is probably because they had too much to drink and ran their mouths at Ronnie. If you wrote a check to Ronnie, you better be ready to cash it! Artimus Pyle never wanted none of Ronnie. He helped Get Ronnie off Allen and Gary in a hotel room one time. As the leader of the band, Ronnie didnt care if you partied , but if you got wasted and couldnt perform at the level you should, he ripped you a new one. Sometimes ending in a fight, if you took it personal enough to go to the wood shed out back. That is why Ronnie ask Gene Odom to come help tame the partying down some on the road . A few of the guys had quit the band because Ronnie ruled with an Iron fist at times. He realized Gene was sober all the time, and it was not the best idea for him to handle the boys under the influence of whiskey and coke.. Gene was there to keep things from getting crazy when the band was in party mode and off the chain.

They stopped being the Doobie Brothers when they brought McDonald in. I saw their first show outside of the local San Jose bar scene, at Winterland. Until that night, they were "just" a bar band. They were the first act, Joe Walsh was the second act, and for the life of me, can't remember the headliner, all for $4. The DBs stole the show and got called out for two encores, something that never happened with the opening act at the hallowed venue. They were powerful and tight, driving us into a frenzy with their intensity. Still brings chills when I think about. Their coming out was quite the party. They became pop with MM.

Won a Grammy with McDonald. Great music from both front men. Funny that Ted Templeman initially didn’t like the ideas of MM in the Doobies. Was phenomenal music in spite of the doubts. And yes, Tom’s attitude about MM is generous and beautiful, unlike a lot of the posts here.

I stopped drinking 33 years ago. I had the same sort if issue. Drank until i was a different person. And wouldn't usually remember the next day. Ive had people apologize when they saw me for different injuries and damaged whatever. And Id have no idea what they're talking about. I knew it wouldn't be long until someone would ve seriously hurt or killed. Including me. Rehab and AA. Only 1 fight in that time and Ibwasn't the asshole. Lol

As great as tge ORIGINAL BAND was, Glenn was a legend in both his own right and his own mind...Henley was and is a tyrant. The rest of the band, excluding Walsh, were all victimized.
@TheSaxAppeal

Yes. Leadon suggested, multiple times, that the band take periodic solo breaks. No music, no studios or tours, no drugs, just them and their families...it was Henley and Frey who pushed back. Randy quit because his ulcers became so bad he couldn't perform...if they had taken clean breaks periodically, i doubt such events would have come to pass

I will say as arrogant as Henley sounds here, as I get a bit older, there is no TIME for passengers and worrying about feelings when it comes to songs and maximizing their potential There are tons of songs out there that have probably never been heard or aren't as good as they could be because someone wanted to spare a few terse words to the detriment of many.

While I love a lot of the Tom Johnston albums from the 70s, to me after 50 listens of all their albums up to the last one with Michael Mac, these days it’s only the Michael Mac ones that I play. He wrote so many great songs that just melt you when you hear them. His voice was a one in a generation voice along with Steve Perry and Steve Walsh. These guys could take you on an emotional charged ride with their singing.

I had just returned to Z.A. after traveling thru Europe to see live bands, within 2 weeks the defence force called me up to compulsory army ( I was not going to do that in the old South African Regime, I was going to hid in the forest🙄 . Bought a NEW Musical Express n saw Zepp. were going to do knebworth so asked a friend to get me a ticket , WHAT A CONCERT loved them ❤ stayed in Holland for 6yrs , but had to do their military. Then eventually came back to S.A. where they wanted me to do army shit like SHOOT at black people . I told them I'm reporting You to the U.N. That FINNALY got them off my back . Too many kids suffered trauma in Military service in those bad ol days. R o c k ON rockers❤

I saw this commentary and I enjoyed it he did have an amazing voice, no one out there comes close to him, his emotion felt songs, the way he expressed his self you felt it deep in your soul, but I agree with him you can't base your life on touring all the time, I think he had his dream come true and as time went on he didn't want it anymore, he has never come across to me as one of those big rock stars, he did what he thought was right and I probably would have done the same thing myself I mean Fame is great but it's not the only thing in life and I'm sure it comes with a BIG PRICE TO PAY. so I say kUDOS TO STEVE!
