That was a total Cluster from the short line to the choice to start all the boats together. In short just terrible decisions made by the Race Committee. I would be pretty pissed if I was an owners even if my boat was not damaged.
Down wind starts are their own particular kind of hell. The leaders get blanketed and the trailing boats catch up. Add the fact that it's really tricky if not impossible to slow if you think your going to be over early. But if you can pull it off they are a blast
This is the start of the Sydney to Gold Coast race, it has to start in this direction, after all the GC is north of Sydney, it is up to the crews to keep clear of each other, no fault of the organisers.
@@russellmoore1533 Depending on the space available, you can so a small upwind start with a rounding mark only a few minutes away, then alleviates a lot of these issues. Thats what we did in the 2024 Race To Baltimore a few weeks ago and it worked out well instead of an immediate downwind start.
...trafiasz na idiotów w komisji regatowej i brakuje ci wyobraźni, żeby przewidzieć, że przy starcie z wiatrem po nawietrzej stronie linii startowej, przy mieliźnie jacht skończy na mieliźnie.
