The Beginning Founded by way of California and Hawaii in 2015, three friends started Slowtide as a product of their lifestyle. After spending long days at the beach, they realized that there was no towel that was both exciting and fit their daily needs; so they set out to create one. Dario Phillips, Kyle Spencer, and Wylie Von Tempsky left their corporate jobs to build a new canvas for art in the form of a towel. Inspired by all bodies of water and a love of art, Slowtide is a collaboration of three friends who wanted to convey their lifestyle through unique products.
Why We Started Slowtide Slowtide created a new medium for art, catering to a love of the beach, nature, travel, and comfort. We took a category that was otherwise mundane and turned it into a work of art. Blending design and functionality, Slowtide collaborates with brands, artists, and photographers to bring beautiful, unique designs, all while maintaining premium, sustainable quality.
I'm about same the age as Arto and as a skateboarder that grew up skating and watching Arto and also got bit by the surf bug at my early 30's, this gives me goosebumps. It´s crazy how we ALL skateboarders feel and look at things in a different way because of a skateboard. It feels like something about skateboarding triggers some part of our brain to be able to have that sensibility and creativity. Arto man, one of the best ever on a skateboard!! He´s like Andy Irons for surfing world. For those who have no idea who he is, just go out and search for "Flip - Sorry" and "Es-Menikmati", two of the best skate videos ever produced. Inspiring stuff :)
Arto is so cool he doesn't even have any Finnish accent in his English. The only Finn I know as good in that. Not sure about Andy MCKoy though beacause he's never sober...
Arto is such an inspiration! It's crazy to understand how many things skateboarding teaches you and gives you. I see a ton of people, who became professional photographers and filmmakers just because they were used to shoot with homies.
Love arto no matter what he does, it’s funny this just popped up, only a few minutes ago I was talking about how I just recently got into surfing and excited I found something less impactful as skating and will hopefully be able to do this into my elder years, fuck yeah arto always living the dream and paving the way!

I first saw Arto in 1999 at those famous white ledges in downtown Copenhagen. I think he was maybe 15 then or something and absolutely killing the spot. Then 10 years later I was at the Alien premiere in LA in the spring of 2009 and Arto lit up the screen in his post-Flip phase. Love seeing what he's doing now in Hawaii. Sounds like he doesn't skate anymore and that's quite alright (if my assumption is correct). What an absolute legend. This is super inspiring.
Met him when I was a kid at a demo around 2004 or 5, and his knee was absolutely blown out, so he was stuck sitting in a van mostly. He was still kind enough to humor some kids. I'm glad he's enjoying life.
I love skating but for sure it can be an addiction at times. If the pain out weighs the fun for him, then good for him he saw that rather than hanging out reliving the glory days for ever more
@@nikokaapa ahhh yeah true. From a purely selfish point of view I would love to see more footy of him, even just cruising around a park doing some bs flips with his unique style 🙏☺️
@@vancouverbill Yes exactly. And I also hate that something as beautiful as skating had to become such a burden for him. I, personally, hope to be able to skate for as long as I can move. I mean I've seen 60-year-olds cruise, and I just hope that will be me.
@@nikokaapa as long as you have the will and desire I think it is possible to some extent. I'm 43 and skate a few times a week and still learning and having fun. taking old tricks to new spots or doing them in different ways. There have been times in my life when I was over it though. I think I have been enjoying it more recently because I don't care as much, when I was younger I put so much pressure on myself to keep progressing and it just became a burden and I was over it . Skating is in a good place right now too, it seems way more open, people are stoked on skating curbs, ditches, flowing around, so they really helps I think
