Government legislation allows by law public meetings including remote virtual meetings, and specifically council meetings to be recorded by members of the public. However, the previous Conservative controlled Portishead Town Council in Portishead did not like such videos. Indeed one councillor went as far to call videos of council meetings "sinister". Hence why this Channel was created. Videos are the public's only accurate method of recording meetings. Council minutes were often edited out of context with factual comments by the public omitted. The truth appeared hard for some councillors to hear. One ex chairman of Portishead Town Council disliked the town's residents speaking at council meetings so much that he put forward a motion that included the possibility of banning public participation. A campaign by residents challenged this and succeeded in keeping the status quo. Under the new Portishead Independent controlled Town Council there are the same worrying trends.
