Paradise On Pennies
Imagine, 2 people with our 3 dogs living in an truck camper or tent, giving up traditional life, all for the freedom to live & explore. So far, we’ve been to nearly all U.S. states and many Canadian provinces. Our travels are centered around minimallistic and simplistic means that cost little to achieve. This allows us the time to travel and explore and be flexible enough to dash off to the next adventure. It means we arent tied up in work and status quo obligations. We’re free. We’re wild. We’re happy.
Glad you can join us on this amazing ride!

No, it finally stopped working. I think the wires between the panels crapped out the display screen still worked so I’m keeping all the parts so I can use them on other panels In the future! We usually hung the panel on the back of a camping chair and sat whatever was being charged on the seat of the chair so it would be out of the sun and wind. That worked out really well for us.

I think it would be awesome if you would do a day in the life type video since your lifestyle is so different than most other people that live full time on the road it would be interesting to see how uniquely you deal with life’s challenges.

Pack rats in central Arizona chewed the wire in two on the ultrasonic rodent deterrent. Moth ball don’t work, light didn’t work. If I had to leave my motor home parked for a while I would prop the hood open and aim a fan on each side of the motor. They don’t like the wind at all and it worked. They then moved to the top of the fuel tank and chewed the sensor wire. I fixed it but it’s a battle.

We had twice mice in the RV when it was parked for a while, and we had some damages and a lot of work to clean everything, but we found them never when we were living inside. And once we had a nest of any rodents in the air filter box, what was found out during service - no idea how long it was already there. We had also to install a marten defense system near to the engine, which makes any special noise to keep them away. We let install it already before we took the vehicle over as we had bad experiences with our private cars before - in some regions in Germany there are so many martens and so many damages to cars you can't even count it. One of my first cars got twice huge damages, another one had once a bad damage created by these beautiful animals. Two other cars were not affected at all, I guess it depends on how the space around the engine is designed and what materials (cable isolation materials, rubber pipes etc.) are used whether these animals attack. I still remember my first reaction when it happened the first time - initially I thought we could get rid of them with home remedies. My dad suggested to spray the engine with a mix of oil and water and chillie powder and pepper, and he told he had made good experience with that. So I followed his advice and in fact we had no more damages, but from that moment onwards the car smelled during driving always like a kiosk where french fries are sold ... Finally we could no more endure the stink and went for an intense motor cleaning with pressure washer etc. and decided to purchase and install electronic devices. ;-) Here in India I had very often rats in my Chetak scooter. They loved to build nests in the tunnel or in the air filter. I tried to block the entrances with wires and so on but nothing helped. And it became even worse as the rats were followed by snakes who tried to eat them ... quite interesting, I've even uploaded a video about a snake in my scooter many years back. I never minded about rat snakes but when I noticed once that even a cobra was going in, I finally sold that scooter ... 🤣

I found the spigot flimsy and not holding up well. Solution is easy. Buy a metal spigot with 3/4 male thread and just replace plastic spigot with the metal one…looks cool too-and will last forever.

I'm sixty two and grew up in the eastern Maine woods. My Dad always told us to make a lot of noise because humans are trouble to bears and they would rather avoid us. I wouldn't doubt it would work. However, if you wear it in deer season it might attract a deer, or maybe the attention of a game warden.

ONE aspect to the Tacoma-ish thing is a lot of us don't want a full-size truck. An F150 or bigger can have real problems on tight offroad trails. Sadly, in a couple years, the Tacoma will be the size of an F-150 anyway. But mid-size trucks are a sweet spot for offroad.

Thank you for this video. I get so tired of people quoting bad science, saying that bear bells don't work! They are very annoying, but they absolutely help avoid surprises.
@NelsonSherry
@NelsonSherry Месяц назад
I hate bear bells. The big fallacy about these is that they scare bears away. NO, all they do is make your presence known so you don't surprise a bear with your presence. And yes, they work well and have, without a doubt, saved my life once. Please don't walk around everywhere all the time in the wilderness with one ringing. But, when you're by yourself in an area with poor visibility, letting it ring could certainly help you avoid an encounter.

Sure. Almost all bears would rather avoid us. Bring something else for the ones that wouldn't. Bear attacks are sometimes caused by dogs that hassle bears and head to you for protection; be careful about loose dogs in bear country. Groups of 5 are deterrent just by the number.

So I feel like I'm obliged to reference this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4GzMizVAl-0.htmlsi=bIApFTt4VQJj3rJ0 That said, I've camped a LOT in both Black and Brown/Grizzly bear territory, AND I WAS always taught to make a lot of noise. I've seen quite a few bears regardless, who (with a few exceptions) scattered by getting louder, banging on our pots and pans and yelling "Hey, Bear!" The exceptions were in Appalachia, when we encountered (the "problem") bears that had already previously identified people as sources of food. I never had to kill one, but on two occasions, had to fire a warning shot. I think that's what worries me the most about these--it turns our presence into part of the background noise, and results in stimulus extinction at best (at worst, they turn into the operant conditioning of literal Pavlov's bells--signals of easy food if complacent people rely on these rather than practice all of the other best practices for camping in bear country). So, nothing necessarily wrong doing this, but please DON'T relay on this for your primary avoidance strategy.

Can you drive to an actual AutoZone store and buy the parts? There should be some kind of auto parts store you can go to. I think that would be easier than trying to figure out some place to ship parts to but I don't know what your situation is. Good luck and I hope you get it fixed soon!
