This pregame performance should be the pregame they do now..it's awesome!!!! I don't care for the one now, It's still the best band nevertheless.. Hook Em !!!
This is one of the best performances I’ve ever seen in my life! Everything about this touches me and made me tear cause it’s so beautiful!! Hook ‘em 🤘🧡
Funny how RU-vid brought me here (Non Longhorn fan. Trust me. Lol), but glad it did as I went ahead and watched this performance. I was very happy to see that you guys have an alumni band and it was really something to see & hear so many on the field. Keep it up.
The greatest aspect of the coming 2024 Thanksgiving game between Texas A&M and UT will be the halftime -- the Showband of the Southwest, and the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band.
I wonder how many Longhorns and fans realize where the "Eyes of Texas" comes from. The lyrics are said to be intended to poke fun at university president William Lambdin Prather. At the time, the University of Texas had fewer than a thousand students, and there were weekly convocations of the students at which Prather would often speak. Prather customarily concluded his speeches by saying, "Ladies and gentlemen, the eyes of Texas are upon you."
football team # 1 . . . . . band sits right up there with them ! ! this ensemble has a wealth of fine players. I love your arrangements ! . . . . this has to be the best alumni band from anywhere ! Grandioso was incredible.
I fell in lovebwith the Longhorn Band in 5th grade about 65 years ago. The highlight of my life was when my son Ansel made the percussion section in 2007.
I think they should carry flags representing the following schools alongside Texas: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Vanderbilt.
Again, OU alum and Pride of Oklahoma alum, here. So, I've seen a lot of these cats over the years on the field and in the stands in Dallas. I love that both OU and UT changed their pregame shows for the SEC debut, first off. And I'm telling y'all...this is the best I've ever heard the Longhorn Band sound. And I'm officially old now, so I have some perspective. Lol. Outstanding! Truly, hats off! 👍
This is the first time I've had the chance to watch this incarnation of the pregame show, and you know what? It literally brought tears to my eyes. I wish I was 40 years younger and healthy again so I could march in it! Seriously. Absolutely incredible sound, and great sets. Y'all did great. Keep it up, and Hook 'em Horns!
OU alum and Pride of Oklahoma alum, here. Couldn't agree more! They sound absolutely terrific. I love that both OU and UT changed up their pregame shows for the new era in the SEC. Exciting times!
I know this is going to sound weird, but I can't choose between the Angie's and the Longhorns. I'm more of a Longhorns fan, but I just can't choose. Hook em' Horns!
Great sound! Very, very sharp sounding arrangements. Just a couple of glitches in the drill, mainly in the "Big Bertha" set. The rest was great! Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but were this version of the gauntlets on the uniform new? I don't remember seeing them last year, but then again, I didn't get to see any shows up close and personal or online. (Trivia - I helped the 1981-1982 Uniform Committee in the redesign of the uniforms and was the person responsible for suggesting the gauntlets in the first place (you may now throw stones my direction if you wish, depending on what your opinion was of the gauntlets ^_^ ).)
Thank you so much for sharing this. As a Longhorn living in Florida, I miss going to the games, and most of all, miss the band. Always a treat to watch and listen to the Showband of the Southwest! Thanks again!!!
^^^ MY GOSH! I'M SHOCKED! it's been a loooonnnng time... since I witnessed the LHB perform a halftime show this BRILLIANT... DYNAMIC... SPECTACULAR... and wholly MAGNIFICENT. the SOUND POWER was off the charts. the PRECISION is on time and and like clockwork. the brand-new (subtly re-designed) uniforms are on-point... sharp... and badly needed. i am REALLY HAPPY about this season's band. YOU KNOCKED IT RIGHT OUT OF THE PARK with this performance. HERE'S TO THE FUTURE... HOOK'EM!🤘🏽🧡🔥🎵💯
I'm a Texas-ex (Class of '65) and remember the days of Vincent R. DeNino and his glorious "Showband of the Southwest" marching band. THEY MARCHED and played some of the most uplifting music I have ever heard from a marching band. What is with this group who stand on the field in shorts and play boring music? They all seem as bored as I was listening to them. What happened to the Showband of the Southwest? Even "Texas Fight" sounded dull and as though they were bored and trying to get off the field.
These guys are absolutely phenomonal, and the idea of them being in anything OTHER than polos and shorts is completely absurd. They’re nationally esteemed for a reason and they CRUSHED this. My love is in the percussion line, and though it’s blasphemy to say when I’m from AR, HOOK ‘EM LONGHORNS
hey craig. congrats on peaking in high school! it seems the longhorn band is focused on making memories, not reliving yours from 40 years ago. hope this helps!
@@panickingfaefolk Actually, I have two Bachelors in music and a Masters in Computer Science. I marched with the FSU Bulldog Band for 4 years and the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps for 3 years. Just to clarify.
@@craigrussell5622 impressive resume! with all those degrees, you’d think you’d have learned how to let go of marching band from the 80’s. they’re doing just fine in 2024.
@@SilasRios512 Now that's something I didn't know, but I did wonder about the shorts and t-shirts. LOL Kinda explains things LOL I just thought the adults in charge would want to see what I saw, was meant to be constructive. Sorry about that.
