How are you getting on? I have just bought a Cobra 5.4m RIB in a similar state. Paid £350 for mine, this might work out, we will see. In my defence I have done an Inflatacraft, an Avon Red Rover and an Avon 4m Searider in the past.
Poly marine inflatable boat cleaner was the spray and I used caustic soda thickened with wallpaper paste to clean the marine growth off the bottom of the tubes.
Well done, Mark, i am in same process with an sr4, just did the bottom with gelcoat and is scarry how much sanding i have to do, gelcoat is so hard to sanding down. I can’t wait untill boat is fully done, a lot of work i have to do aswell, i got it with 400£ including trailer so u can imagine! Waiting for your next video, and compare with sr4
damn...this makes me feel much better having purchased a used Avon i was worried didn't look so great, seeing how bad this one is, mine now feels new! Great work so far.
How long did it take u to get there mate and we’re did u go from.do you think it’s possible to do it on a 3m rib with 5hp 4stroke 2man up on a calm day I have got my eye out for a 10-15hp
I launched at Bucklers Hard in Beaulieu and went down the river for 20mins and 30mins across to Cowes maybe less. I was using a 3m in this but 15hp. You could do it with a 5hp but it will take you twice as long. Get yourself a 10-15hp and you will go a lot further and have a lot more fun 👍
Really enjoyed the video, as a new 15 foot shetland owner I was a bit apprehensive about trips from Southampton to the Isle of Wight, mainly because if anything went wrong I would get a bit 'i told you so' from the Mrs. After watching your video its given me some more confidence to just get out there and enjoy the solent. Thanks mate 👍
Andy O you’ll be fine, choose a calm day with good visibility and time the tides in your favour. Navionics app is brilliant. Stay to one side of the main channels out of the way of the big ships. Try Wooton creek and Cowes as they should be easy from Southampton, also Beaulieu river is fun 👍
@@mxf2812 thanks for the reply. Since watching your video I have got the bug and want to go to the isle of Wight for a bacon sandwich😂😂. Just bough a zodiac grand raid mk3 and wondering what engine to put on the back. Thanks again. Mark
Mark, I noticed you have posted a few things re Gem 550’s. I have just bought one in Australia and there are 4 bolts on top of the keel casing inside. Do you know what these are for?
Great vid the best form of boating is cheap and easy. Over the years I've had little boats and big boats and by far the best is a dinghy you put in the car with a small engine .My last big rib cost £70 per hour thank God I haven't got it now. The problems with ramps, launching, storage and cost just makes little boats more viable.
Andy B I got this off a canal boat and although it looks beaten up its actually pretty sound. It has controls and I have a steering system which I will try out on the dinghy - a Suzumar 320. I have destructed the 9.9 to 15hp by swapping out the reed valve stops - might show that in the next video.
