To be fair Im the same age and grew up round the corner from the gees and never met any of them. Heard the stories but they only involved other grafters. Normal kids had no problem..

Hey Daren, I agree with much of what you say but some of it is simplifying things. For reasons I won't go into I was groomed by a road man from the age of 13, by the time I was 18 I was homeless living in sheltered accommodation with my son. 20 years on I have a 3 bed house, a career and 2 very good adult kids with their own families. My Mom was super strict, grounded my ass for tiny reasons and I went to church every Sunday but still rebelled. As a single mom I had to work so couldn't be home with my children as much as they needed but had the bad experiences that poor decision making causes as a kid so told my kids most of what I had experience and what they needed to do differently. Yes, needed to do so they could buy their own cars, homes, and future.. they had and will have choices to make that will affect the outcome. Its not all down to crap parenting, it's down to self esteem, knowledge and consequences. I was very tough on both of my children but especially my lad, the results speak for themselves. Many of his mates ended up in prison, my son ended up becoming a prison officer.. he actually hated it and left but hey ho.. What I would have done if my kids made the wrong choices is take them to every trap house I could and show them their futures, scare the death out of them, sometimes just saying no and being strict doesn't work.
