Thanks Lloyd , in process of applying for licence and found this informative. I’ve learnt a lot from your content as well as the lanky southerner (Johnny I think his name is ) and the strange looking geezer from Oxford gun club. Can you suggest a good shooting ground in or near Cumbria? I want to do as you suggest and look for a fitted good first gun and instruction
Sorry George, I’m not familiar with any clubs in Cumbria off the top of my head. Best bet is probably to post on a forum or Facebook shooting group, however the quality of response you will get is unfortunately questionable.
Wood grade and engraving. The higher grades are prettier and nicer finished. I use CENS proflex DX1. If you like you can get 15% off a set by using discount code LLOYD at checkout. 😎
I am not into guns but thoroughly enjoyed watching this series the level of craftmanship is incredible and those guns are simply works of art. The level of craftmanship that goes into them is truly amazing and it is clear these guys have a real passion for their work.
Grease or oil I don’t care folks but you need to do it. Recently found tiny orange specks deep inside on the hinge pins. Broken clays obviously so don’t assume it never happens clean and lube your guns you paid hard earned money for them.
It's amazing to me that high end shotguns, 10-12K and up come with very poor wood most of the time. Kolar, by far, uses the nicest wood. I really think certain manufactuers would sell far more guns if they were not so damn cheap on the wood. A guy wants his high end gun to look fabulous. Much of the engraving is over way done. Then they put a damn fence post on a 10K and up shotgun, often 12-15K guns have mediocre wood at best. I have a K80 and paid a lot extra for nicer wood. That gun was far more than 15K.
Yep, towards the end the 11-87 morphed into the semi-auto counterpart to the utilitarian 870 Special Purpose and Express. The belle of the ball mantel shifted back to the 1100 as it persisted in the clay shooting roles, probably because its simpler gas system was satisfactory for target rounds. Lloyd, you ought to get a spacer and new pad fitted, so you can take the old girl out for a date once in a while. ;-) A nice thick Cervellati Microcell plus spacer might not even weigh more than the current pad.
I shoot an ATA now, first gun £600 brand new, and it’s fine.but I’ve had it for 2 years now, and fancied an upgrade!! I saw this at the Doncaster show last year, liked the look of it, now someone who knows more than me about shotguns says it’s ‘interesting’, and was going to have a look at one on Tuesday, has made my interest levels increase 10 fold!!!
@@davystella I did indeed!! Only used it twice, but I’m very happy so far with the results. Seems to be easier to keep the fun moving on those tricky right to left crossers!! I went for the 32’ barrels, my old ATA is only 30’, but as someone helpfully pointed out, I must be able to hit more, as I’m closer to the target!!😆😆😆
A couple of lads on our local shoot have just purchased the ATA Pro and are happy as pig in S++t and the price point is good value for money !! i will purchase one as soon they will be available in 28" barrels 👍👍
What rods and gun clean kit do you use, most won’t let you go through the barrels as they have a handle or wide end that won’t pass, and what jag did you use? Cheers
I use a 2 piece aluminium rod that I have glued together so it's a 1 piece. I dont use a jag as they are utterly useless, I use 2x4 on an old retired payne gallway brush.
Hi Loyd great review, I bought one as a winter gun a few months back, I’ve put a couple of thousand through it no issues other than catching the trigger release inadvertently a couple of times, the stock chokes don’t pattern well but with some beretta extended Mobil chokes works well, shooting towards the top of the local club shoot now with it, and leaving the beretta at home on occasions, I think that says enough to me about how good it is.
Good balanced review. Any sign of a ATA factory visit on the cards? Be interesting to see how they’re doing what they’re doing to see where the improvements are being made.
Hello Lloyd, Great review on this ATA…..I recently purchased a Kizilkaya RT25 (six weeks ago) from dealer here in the USA. Well, I am not too happy with the customer service at this end of this purchase. To be more specific the factory supplied chokes ( five furnished and one choke would not even screw in either barrel) and the removable trigger group which was virtually almost impossible to remove. I sent my gun to the importer in Texas and gave me a NEW set of chokes and resolved the trigger problem for the most part! Is it possible for you to get your hands on one of these guns and give an impartial review of it for any potential buyers of this model? Thank you, Mike P. (USA)
Great reviews Loyd, im in two minds of what gun to buy, the ATA or the Yildiz, now that I'm old i need the lighter gun. Your advice would be very much appreciated.
I bought one last week from Roy Martin gunsmith. I've only just taken shooting up as a hobby, I hit the first clay with the first shot. (Shame about the rest). I thought the recoil was quite strong too, compared to my ATA SP.
I was shooting Ball-Trap here in France last weekend and was with a young French chap who had a new ATA SP Laminate in black. Afterwards we had a look at each other's gun. I was mighty impressed with his gun and he was shooting very well with it. He said it cost him about 1000 euros and to me the quality of fit and finish were very high.
As the Sole UK importer for this popular brand in the UK, I can confirm the Fixed stock option is £999.99 Inc Vat & The adjustable stock is £1099.99 Inc Vat! The underside of the action has been designed specifically to have a textured finish in order to resist any marks from general wear and tear that a championship sporting gun may endure on the clay shooting circuit. Shoot Well & Enjoy Folks
100% agree about the 'Hyundai' comparison, it's something I've been saying too. People still give ATA / Yildiz stick., but as long as they keep innovating and trying new things, they'll eventually get a really good foothold. The spring-loaded adjustable trigger is a great feature, for example. They just need to make sure their fit and finish is up to par..
As always a great review . In australia the MIROKU MI38T30INV MK38 TRAP is arround $400 more and in my view a better gun with excellent parts availability ,It may be a Browning copy, but a decent copy in every way,
I have a Weatherby Orion 12 sporter that I bought 2 years ago and has proven to be an excellent gun. (made by ATA) it’s a nice gun and I shoot it well, but it IS a little more punchy than my daily which I attribute to stock dimensions as well as tighter bore on the barrels. I think I paid 900 US and it’s a lot of gun for the money
