To my mind, Orpheus was made to look like Dream of the Endless, of DC comics' "Sandman" title: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dream_(character) ; in DC's "Sandman", Dream was also Orpheus' father, via Calliope.
The Romans did not "steal" greek gods. Romans and greeks are indo european, and all indo european cultures believed in the same pantheon, they just had different names for the gods in that pantheon in their own languages. Even the Slavic and Nordic pantheons are hierarchically the same as the Roman and Greek, because they all come from one place.
A good thing to keep in mind - there is *never* right or wrong with Mythology. It's a myth, a story, a thing that changes and morphs. There is no right and wrong.
You said he/him, but when I played it, Chaos seemed to be a they. Excellent video, by the way. Really excellent. In your reference to Athena and the Aegis, you'll notice that the Gorgan head that isn't present on her shield is actually there on her outfit.
I haven’t played this game but I’m a sucker for any Greek myths esp modern takes, I wanna play this game and maybe I will but my favorite bits of the video is when you go off on Cerberus and the poem used for when he eats his treat, and skelly being Odysseus bc the moment you read his codex entry SCREAMED it to me esp since Achilles wrote it but I’m also not that knowledgeable on their base myths in the Iliad or the Odyssey but either way I think it’s fitting
can we stop pretending xenoblade 1 wasnt just as bad, the only difference is it had less female character overall, but all of them have revealing outfit safe for melia, who is highly ranked like morag like look at fucking meyneths design who has a literal panties window in the middle of her full dress, who the fuck drew this? fiora, sharla, vanea, loritia all of them have sexualized designs, only difference is blades are made to look weird and alien, same reason they have disgusting american accents
Over a year late to this of course but I might have an answer for your Asura face/personality confusion- It might be a reference to Yaksha, a type of spirit within Buddhist and Hindu mythology. They're known for having dual/conflicting personalities that can change at any time, often linked with the face they're making I believe. Not an expert on the subject matter of course. If you're wondering how I know about Yaksha, it's because one of the final bosses of the first Touhou game (Konngara of the Hell route) is speculated to be one. That's all, have a good day.
My personal theory about Dionysus and his association with big cats is that big cats have been seen for a long time as both majestic animals and lazy, mostly because they sleep so much compared to other animals. Both majesty and sloth could be tied in to the concepts of hedonism and vanity that Dionysus represents, being the god of wine and parties. Wearing the leopard print could be a fashion statement, making himself look good at whatever party is thrown in his honor, and having cats around him could be a symbol of his love of the good life, drinking, eating and sleeping/lazing about whenever he wishes. Dunno if there’s any historical precedent to this but thought it might be worth mentioning
In terms of dungeon design and getting lost, I’ve noticed that at least for the first 4 games (the pattern breaks a bit in 5) the closest door to the entrance is usually optional, and the furthers door from the entrance is usually correct to progress.
I love how easy it is to tell at a glance which commenters actually watched this video and which ones just watched some chud rant about it and hopped over to regurgitate their half-formed thoughts based on a complete misinterpretation of what was actually said.
Given its msotly blades it seems more like a visual motif for blades specifically so blades can be somewhat identfied. Also whatsthe issue if it makes the game (slightly) worse for women but more enjoyable for men, game devs make choices like that all the time. If you make quick time events in a turn based game many may enjoy them but it may make the game worse for others. Any focous on violence will also make the game more appealing to men and not women. Im not saying theres no winning, character customization and fashion features will apeal too women more but is a beloved feature for men too but that valuing some groups over others isnt a terrible thing, its everyday standard work in game development.
3:11:16 could be called “holy” because of the heavy Christian subtexts in the source legend, or because Final Fantasy… you know what, It’s Final Fantasy. 😂
Oh, I really, REALLY like this video! I agree with all of your points, and there's a few of them that I personally really love. The first was at 2:28 where you used the hypothetical catcalling scenario to illustrate your point in a way that's very easy to understand. It really helps to explain the extreme difference in how sexualization works from the perspective of it happening to a Man compared to the perspective of it happening to a Woman. Particularly in how women are much more frequently sexualized at their expense to the point where it's been a common occurrence for every woman that I personally know. The second was at 13:20 where you called out how those types of people will immediately get defensive every time the topic of sexualization gets challenged in any way, showcasing the innate hypocrisy that flares whenever this topic gets brought up. This is especially relevant now, where these exact same types of people would raise drama in the event that a woman isn't designed to be sexual but instead as more of an actual character, such as Abby from The Last Of Us 2, Aloy from the Horizon franchise, among others like the woman from the recently released Spiderman game. (I forgot her name...) The third, and my personal favorite, was the point you've made at 50:23. The fact that the vast, VAST majority of the people going against positive female representation aren't even women is absurd! The only thing I wished you've done was double down a bit on that last point, by going into detail on how those men would often speak on the behalf on women with the intent to further dehumanize them by advocating for these shallow character designs. Though admittedly, that could have caused you to digress too far off topic since this is supposed to be about Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for the most part. TL;DR: 10/10 Video, I'm excited to see more of your work! I hope you see this comment! (∩˶◕ᴗ◕˶)⊃━☆
Nobody has their own opinions. Its all regurgitating. FF2 is much better than people give it credit for. Im glad you peeled some layers here and ultimately made your OWN mind about it. Another great video
Something in the wheel of greek love threw me off. Storge Eros - (erotic + family love) Storge Ludus - (uncommited + family love) Ludic Eros - (uncommitted + erotic love) So, ludic eros, i think we can see as one night stands. But would storge ludus mean you are semi reliable to your family? Storge Eros is pribably incest knowing greek mythology loving to use that
Nia's yellow suit is sexy enough to me, much sexier than her blade form tbh. It is easy to imagine the whole suit is her bare. But the sexualization is more apparent on the blade version. Umu. I think i learned something 😅. I'm just a random people who just watch the XC2 here more than I've ever seen. Never played or hearing much about the game.
Which is why I don't enjoy the Golbez reveal at the end (Spoilers). I feel Golbez should have been the evil-for-evil's sake, Zermus/Zeromus is alright as the "kill an evil god" archetype, but Golbez has clearly been the most definitive antagonist to Cecil, and Golbez has pseudo-kidnapped Kain, who's as close to Cecil's brother as possible, barring literal blood relative... (eye-roll).
3:09:53 The squared tip of the nemesis aspect kind of reminds me of an executioners sword during the Middle Ages in Europe, which might have thematic similarities of retribution?
Minor Spoilers for Hades 2 ------- so cool to see what you talk about in retrospect such as characters we see in Hades 2 like Scylla, Charibdus, and Eris!
Being autistic (especially an autistic girl diagnosed late), I've always struggled with making friends. I never understood what set me apart from my peers, making it hard to even learn how to make friends. It's hard to understand people, even on the simplest basis. I can see my experiences of just trying to communicate through haikyuu. Its fantastic, really
