This is a channel that embraces the wisdom of old times and explores the ways to enjoy them in our everyday life.
I’m currently self-teaching Sashiko as means to mend, repurpose and refresh old materials.
I have also started my Instagram account where you can see some close-up photos of my creations from this channel.

***** Most of the Sashiko patterns which I stitch are traditional patterns but my original patterns, the layout of Sashiko patterns and the specifications of my sewing items are my creation. Here in the States, when retailers are raising prices on sashiko threads, I use crochet fine cotton thread or lace weight yarn for the thread. I have also done boro on a lightweight wool using regular cotton sewing thread, and it turned out great.
Oh that’s sad. Although it’s nice to use traditional indigo-dyed cotton fabric and white Sashiko thread, I prefer to keep my Sashiko projects inexpensive. I also use substitute materials a lot😊
Hello I never thought it could be so hard to create a pattern 😳😁 Even it looks hard I love your bows and umbrellas it's super cute 😊🥰 Maybe little hearts could be fun 😁😏😉👍
i have some of those leather thimble rings for the finger and i love using them, just more on the first part of my finger and not the second/middle. My hand hurts a lot if i have to curl up my fingers too much and it just feels better if i adjust to my handsize instead of following the traditions or rules 100%. And those are some interesting patterns, experimenting with them could be fun.
Oh thanks for your tip! I feel that I should now learn it properly! Actually, both my mum and my first Sashiko book use this type of a thimble and I have never mastered it. So I’m definitely motivated to learn it! I feel this particular one I’m using slips on my finger a lot due to the plastic part…or maybe I’m doing it wrong. I’ll ask my mum how she does! Thanks so much😊
@@thegreenwrapper i thought looking at your vid the thimble looked a bit big on your fingers. That could also be part of the issue. The set i got came with 2 and one was smaller then the other, so there should be different sizes, or maybe try tying the elastic at the back tighter (or change it out for a different material). I got thick fingers, so no slipping but i had to adjust the ties a bit. Good Luck.
Oh thank you so much for your advice! I just ordered a metal type which my mum is currently using (after being motivated by your comment😊) but I’m also interested in a leather type. I will try and practice it!
With the final threads do you knot them ?or just cut off ends and leave ❤🦘🐨I’d love to try this I have a cloth /tea towel/ material addiction 😮this look like fun.❤
Hi! I usually use a tea towel to make a Zokin too! You can use knots but they may come off while wiping repeatedly. I explained how to stitch without knots in a separate video. I hope this video helps⬇️😊 Stitching a Zokin without using knots - learn some useful tips for making a Sashiko Zokin! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dWk4US0E8aA.html
Hello. I am a new subscriber. When I watched this video I was unable to see the link you mentioned to get the free sashiko pattern. I also was not able to see/ understand how one becomes a patreon. Can you help me, please.
Hi! Welcome to my channel😊 Here’s the link to my Patreon page. www.patreon.com/Thegreenwrapper The post with the free pattern is at the bottom now (you need to scroll down a lot). Also you can find it in the ‘Sashiko patterns’ folder in the ‘collection’ section.
That’s a fascinating resource. Although that thimble looks incredibly uncomfortable to use! I’d imagine it pushes on the bent finger joint a bit? That pattern looks very versatile. I like the variations you created. It shows how a little bit of change can create a very different pattern! It’s so good.
@@marijkeschellenbach2680 interesting! I guess it all comes down to what you’re used to using. Pushing with the back of a bent finger seems like something that would strain the knuckle
My first Sashiko book and my mum use it and many older generations in Japan use it and stitch quickly. I tried several times before but I was never able to master it and I ended up using the thimble with the plate. It does look super uncomfortable when I use it😅
Oh that’s really interesting! I didn’t notice it but I wonder if it has any influence from it🤔 By the time this book was released, the national isolation had ended. So it is possible that we see some influence from overseas!
How awesome to find an old book that is still relevant and readable! Sometimes older books like this have instructions that are hard to follow , but I’m glad you could work it out. I really like this pattern and the variations you made. It definitely feels more modern than we know it to be. I hope you share many more patterns with us 😍
Thank you! I always wanted to share something but most of them are still partially protected. I’m so glad that I found this! Written Japanese has changed so much last 100 years. So it’s not easy to read but this one was not so bad😅
Oh I love the seconde part following the first one is creating an amazing gradient 😳🥰 The last one is nice too 😁 and with different color thread it could be a ton of beautiful variations 😏😉 Thank you for bringing back the past 😊🙏👍😘
Oh that’s so exciting😍 Yes, I think it’s best to enjoy it! I’ve been using a different type of a thimble for Sashiko for years, so this one was a bit frustrating, but I should enjoy it as well😊
This is beautiful! I love your daughters color choices and your patterns. Would you still use a blanket stitch on the hem of the shorts if the entire hem was undone? I have a pair of shorts like that but instead of being worn at the edge the stitching on the hem just came undone. Wondering if i need a different method.
Hi! If the whole hem is undone, I might just simply stitch along it. Also, in the past, I stitched hem area with Urokozashi like this⬇️ Have you tried this Sashiko pattern before? I stitched Urokozashi ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IQwNhEj4sxs.html
What you folded it into, is called an Azuma bag (also called bento bag). I sew reversible azuma bags, and give them to people to keep their homemade bread fresher, for longer 🙂
Its amazing to see how such beautiful intricate looking patterns start with such a simple stitch! Thankyou for breaking it down like this and keeping this wonderful tradition alive ❤
