Strictly amateur channel. Mostly POV of cool trails we go on when we remember to turn the GoPro on. You won't see me talking at you or asking you to Smash the Like Button!
Just exploring the U.S. in a built Jeep Gladiator. Camping, overlanding, and rock crawling. Sharing the adventures.
I took my completely stock Astro van up to the falls one time.. not my wisest moment - but fuck was it funny seeing the face of the fella driving the modded out Jeep going past me 😂😂
37s. I've seen a lot of people lately trying to say you don't need more than 35s. Not if you want to do trails like this. 40s would have allowed me to make it over the place I got stuck. It was so close. 37s are a sweet spot though where you don't need to worry as much about your axles.
It's really not that difficult of a trail. You just need to be extra careful because a mistake would be costly! There is one switchback that is tighter than this one. And yes, some are filmed to make it look much more dramatic than it is in real life.
Yep! We did two trips last year for a total of 3 1/2 months traveling. I didn't get much footage from the second trip where we went from Florida to the Lost Coast of Northern Cal, Colorado, Utah, etc. Will try to get more vids on our upcoming Utah trip. The vid is from last year. It's in Butte Valley in Death Valley National Park. There are three cabins in that area where you can camp if you choose. Pretty cool place.
3.5 inch Metalcloak with Nitto 37s. The long wheelbase helped in some areas. It hurt when I tried the harder line shown in the vid as well as just after French Creek on the way up. Overall it did great though!
I find it interesting that the original WW2 era Jeep had a wheelbase of 80 inches and designed to go over virtually anything. The Gladiator is stretched out to 137 inch wheelbase. To me ridiculous, (but you get a little sand box on the back). You are bound to beat the bottom off of it! Just saying.
This was so cool to watch! I am thinking of getting a gladiator rubricon. By this video alone looks like having a lift with bigger all terrain tires along with a winch in the front is the way to go. I really wish jeep would make the seats with lumbar support and seats with more adjustments moving seat forward and back further. Also, I really wish jeep would make their jeeps have better gas mileage specially for those people using their jeeps a lot and off roading deep into places. Great Video! lets see more. I want a jeep gladiator for off road and for hunting
Definitely Escalator. It would have been easier with a good spotter. If you hit the right line (and don't forget your lockers like I did) Escalator might not be too bad. If you get off line though it can easily flop or flip you. I didn't think Hell's Gate was bad at all. We got a little tipped but it was easy to correct. Both were a lot of fun!
The correct line on a dry day isn't bad. If it's wet or you get off the line a bit then you have a totally different situation. I was fortunate to have a good spotter the first time I went up so I knew where to go.
i've got a super similar setup (RLD TOPPER with the Ikamper mini on top) on 37"s and 2.5" lift. we chicken'd out in moab on the Seven Mile Rim trail section that was way off camber as you were turning. I knew the JT could do it, but i didn't want to be the driver. Crazy though seeing 30 degrees here and looks like no problem..good to know!
It was scary as you can imagine! The seven mile rim off camber spot took us to at least 25, maybe a bit more. I hate those sections but the Jeep does a great job!
@@BigGreenJeep was wondering that 7 mile rim tippy spot was. 25 is pretty tame. It was the tight turn with the off camber that had me turn around. Didn’t like turning hard into the sideways of it
Jeeps made after mid 2000s (I think every four-door Jeep Wrangler this is true of) has BLD , or better. BLD (brake locking differentials) isn't 'really' open. It's somewhere between an LSD and a locker. It's beyond old school open for sure and in some cases probably better than LSD. If a mid 2000s or better has an LSD on the rear , it's my understanding that it's using both LSD and BLD technology which is beyond BLD and LSD but less than locker. BLD equipped jeeps will embarrass anything that doesn't have a similar technology. A similar technology would be ATRAC. Nevertheless, it's still tough to do without TRUE lockers. I get it.
@@BigGreenJeep what lift/shocks springs/ tires are you running? I'm looking at clayton with the falcons or maybe metal cloak with king or fox. Not sure if I should go bigger than 35 tires because it's my daily commuter but I still want to be able to take it out in the wild.
@@antiantifans1914 I have a Metalcloak Gamechanger 3.5" lift. I replaced the rear springs with Clayton HD 3.5" springs because of all the weight I carry. I also added a Hellwig swaybar. Shocks are Falcon SP2 3.3 Fast Adjust Piggyback Shocks. I can crank them up for highway driving and soften them for rougher roads. Tires are Nitto Trail Grappler 37x12.5x17. I really like these tires. I have close to 40k miles on mine now and find them still good for daily driving. It really does great around town, on the highway, and on trails.
Nice! Thanks for sharing this. Our JL Wrangler did really well ... until the French Creek Crossing. That one was a struggle. I enjoyed all the camera angles in this video, especially following the Jeeps up Obstacle #2 (that crevice). Wow! It really shows the steepness and camber. Well done ... the whole video.
I know! That guy was the best spotter I have run into. He was a nice guy all around. And it was pure luck as we headed to the trail on our own. Just happened to boondock at the same spot.
Metalcloak flip steps. They have held up really well. You can change the angle of the step part with a few bolts but I've always just left mine in the down position.
Love the channel name! This is Mr. Black on CF btw. Great work navigating that trail. I don't know if my old busted up body could handle those metal on rock impacts like that! While I don't consider myself to have a real fear of heights as I get older I don't like those cliff edge trails lol.
Hey Mr. Black! My bones are too old for that now also. LOL I need time to recover after the hard trails and time sleeping in a tent before the next trip!
