When my family lived in Bishop California and my dad was acting postmaster and manager of the Coca-Cola bottling company in 1948-1955 or so, we lived at 186 West Hanby St. in a small house which used to one of the Japanese barracks from Manzanar Japanese internment camp. When my dad worked for Governor Brown 1, my dad wrote the bill that made Bodie a National Historic Site and a State Historic Park

My dad used to fly us to Giant Rock when we were kids. The Cafe is gone along with the room underneath, but we started camping there. I live in Virginia now, and haven't been there in a long time. I get so jealous everytime I see you there!
@socalchuck
@socalchuck Месяц назад
Hi, the slab is still there from the cafe/pie shop and as of late visitors are slowly digging out the space under the rock. Did you fly in for the alien conventions?
@markmccreary-xo5kh
@markmccreary-xo5kh Месяц назад
Hey Chuck! No, I suppose we started going there around 1970 so we missed those conventions. We did encounter hippy parties though. We even got my boy scout troop there once. My dad and I drove our rvs from virginia there in 2005 or so on our way to San Diego. One thing I liked doing was exploring the old mines and putting around on my dirt bike. I enjoy all your trips, thank you for keeping my memories alive 😊 Mark

Howdy Chuck!!! I'm so impressed with your set up! I miss camping so much but the farm is taking up all my time right now but I'm determined to get out there this Fall. Come see us when you're in town. I've got so much growing in the gardens and we just had a nice rainstorm today. 👩‍🌾🌱🏜🌺🌴

Manzanar is a must stop and reflect. Be sure to go into the administration building to get a real grasp of what the camp really was. Bodie is really cool. The tin was from one gallon oil cans cut and flattened.

A new Chuck video, Yay!! will watch it tonight and update my comment :) Update: loved this! you did many of the stops that I did on a cross country road trip back in 2021, too bad I did not have my channel yet. Actually that road trip inspired me to create my channel. Will need to repeat it someday and this time, make videos. I need to say a ton more of NM, did not get to see any of the places you showed here

The 395 is definitey one of my favorite stretches of road in this whole country! Lots to see for me still, especially like Bodie in your video, the road was closed (too much snow) last time I was there, so oh well! great excuse to do another 395 roadtrip again soon. Really enjoyed this video! 🥰

Passed it a few times, and never stopped. Well, mostly because I was not driving myself and the people I was with were not interested in it. Next time I'm in Vegas, I will definitely go check it out!

Wow I knew about the Salton Sea, but didn't realize it was so bad, well we are pretty good at destroying nature & Wildlife, to bad farmers have to use poison to fertilize, don't understand why there isn't some kind of regulation in place to stop their contamination, so nothing good comes from it, it's all bad for people & Wildlife, sad we couldn't be a little smarter, & think about the damage we do, well in time we will have none of it, so it will all have been in vain, sorry I just care about the environment, & thank you for caring to

Wow beautiful landscape, well you know you will always have stupid, people that disrespect nature, sad thing is as population grows, more stupid comes with it, we stayed at Echo Bay back in 1994, & the water was right there to launch our boat & went swimming in coves, wow, those are are dried up to now, no doubt, but awesome video, nowadays I do remoteness, staying away from crowds & stupid, thanks for sharing
