I loved the podcast but was disturbed about Bernardo’s take on the monk that set himself on fire. I don’t think convinced most of his transcendence but rather hinted at insanity for most (me included though now I may rethink it). It still is too disturbing for me to admire on any level. But I do loved the podcast, the talk on suffering and much more. Thank you!!!
Thanks for tuning in. We all have different conceptions of insanity....sometimes what seems like the craziest thing is actually the sanest. Perhaps the monk's self-sacrifice as a way to speak out against the Vietnam War was the sanest thing he could have done in his position.
9:30 instead of going full-dose of 5-meo-dmt (more than 10mg), doing microdosing-entry dose of 5-MeO-DMT decreased my craving for experiencing that intensity, though, it's more frequent.
I'm really surprised that Bernardo with his unique intelligence and capacity of understanding blames practically all the Russians for what's happening in Ukraine. It is also shocking that the deaths of thousands of Palestinian women and children (many many more than in Ukraine) move him less because it's happening farther away.
I love his analogy at 17:29 minutes in, of the whirlpool. I would be grateful if anyone knows where this particular analogy can be found in one of his books?
Since I studied the topic of NDE's very deeply, I have no fear whatsoever of the unknown after life. I don't understand why he is avoiding studying that topic, like I heard him saying. Beranrdo, look into it!
Your entire experience is a mental one. In fact everything that exists in objective reality originates from the universal mental source, and is only ever interpreted through a beings mental filter/the brain, or reticular activating system.
intro by llm, its almost impossible to banish the great B from my homepage feed (but not as tenacious as Alan Watts feed for banishment experiments lol). I bet there's one thing even the most exalted struggles with and that is the physics and math notation of and for the ever present now
It is said that when you have a direct experience of IT, nobody is there to talk about It,...so I believe we can only know and talk about what we are not...for the rest according with our role in society, we play (as Bernardo describe so well!) the life we play. Fondamentally, an enlightened being experiences life as every ordinary human being, but the difference is that he knows how mind work. So, to me Bernardo Kastrup is an enlightened mind!.( even if his mind doesn't recognise that, and this is a blessing...😉🤭❤️) Thank you for such a beautiful interview!
I found what is saying about our western culture, so right!!! We try ( I did it for sure) to escape life throught spirituality, and it taked me so many years to realise it! More and more now tha market of "happiness" try to sell everythings...everywhere! Bernardo is a really so incredibly wise and more... Thank you also for your interview, at your questions are so brilliant, thanks to both of you!👏🎇
Thank you for making this interview with Bernardo, it is very well done. Also thanks to Bernardo for not letting his popularity get to his head, and agreeing to do interviews with (yet) smaller channels. This is amazing.
So called reality holds true only within the realm of mind. Bernardo is right in saying there is only mind to interpret itself as reali. The mind wakes into itself, sleeps into itself and dreams into itself living an illusion that it weaves out of itself.ty.
whereas I was blocked by Bernardo on another platform, I don't care, I just listen to him again and again and remain immensely grateful for how much comfort and small but powerful shifts he brings forth in my life. It's like long conversations I used to have with my father before he passed. "everything has meaning, but not necessarily the meaning you project on it" "if you are so devoted to eliminating suffering, your life will be all about suffering". I'm taking these with me today.
I remember seeing the report about that monk on the news when I was about 12 years old. All because of the fatuous decisions of some men in the American government. The evil that men do, not knowing. I must say, this particular talk with Bernado was exceptional. Thank you.
To me, the biggest difference between being religious and not being religious is prayer. And that is quite a drastic distinction between people, psychologically. Religious people (and perhaps also many "spiritual but not religious" people) live in a world in which they regularly enter into communion with some kind of higher power that they believe to care about them and listen to them. People who live without such beliefs do not do that. I wonder what Jonas would have had to say about this distinction. And, in general, I think there are actually quite a lot of points of contention that can easily be drafted against Jonas's bold claims about religiosity and secularism. I think he didn't really do justice trying to address possible counter-points. This does not strike me as "the truth about religion." Does not feel compelling to me. But these are novel ideas to me. Haven't come across this strand of thought before. Interesting conversation!
What I’m realizing is that there are a million ways to think about Religion… though I think Jonas does get to the heart of it when he says Religions are existential/psychological languages similar to what Carl Jung sketched out with archetypes.
@@ArtemZen You think so? I'd say even the seemingly innocent bit about religions being like different languages is also quite a radical claim. I'm sure lots of religious people feel like their religion is indeed very distinct from every other religion, and would feel offended by the suggestion that it's sort of like a different "translation" of the same truth, just in a different language. Not only are religions very distinct, but they are often diametrically opposed to each other, in important ways. I bet he probably gets MORE criticism from other religious people than from the non-religious people! I do find religion intriguing, overall. I was curious to find out what the "truth" about it was. And I am fairly open minded about what the heck is going on. But, gosh, I can only imagine how much push back he must get from his critics. I think he downplays the dogma of religion way too much -- I think people's religious convictions really do cause tremendous animosity between people. (He ended up divorcing his Muslim wife!) Heck, all seven of the "myths" about religion, as he calls them, seem to me like very legitimate realities of religion. Seems arrogant to call them "myths." He just gives off such a kind-hearted vibe that it feels mean to question his well-meaning assertions. But the claims he makes seem really unfair to me. Both from the secular perspective, and from the religious perspective.
The biggest problem with circling is that you always end up back where you started from! Hahaha! For real though, I'm experiencing judgemental feelings bubbling up... Lol, no seriously! I really like the idea of intentional communities, but the people doing it strike me as really sketchy cult leader type personalities, shrouded in vague hippie buzzwords! Makes me want to crash their little gatherings and get to the bottom of what's really going on there! Like, how is it different from just people hanging out together on the internet? And how do you scale this? I imagine it becomes less and less effective as the group grows bigger and bigger. I would guess 8 people is probably the ideal group size. Do people split up into separate groups at some point? I'm surprised he didn't mention that as one of the biggest challenges that they encountered so far. I hope he comes back sometime so you can ask him some more questions. There's a lot to talk about there. This interview struck me as just the tip of the iceberg. Thanks for bringing him on!
Glad you enjoyed it 😃 Cult dynamics are def something to watch for. The difference between something like circling is that there is a container and a conscious practice that is being engaged with that is different than people just hanging out on the internet. Such communities can be 150-200+ not everyone needs to be on every call although I think intentional society is about 20 people. Another community (relateful) probably has 100’s of members and they have practices sessions at different times where some portion of the people show up.
@@ArtemZen Thanks for the explanation! Yeah, that sounds really hoaxy to me. Like, I would feel much more comfortable with these guys if they weren't trying to make it out to be some kind of special experience that they had to make up a word for. If they were like "yeah, we basically just hang out on the internet, and talk about whatever's on people's minds, pretty much," THAT would seem a lot more legit to me. Circling shmircling! Haha!
@@thinkerythunker616 that’s not what circling is…. It has a name because its a specific practice that builds certain skills. It’s not just saying whatever is on your mind. Circling is not a great name but I like to call it Mindful Relating or as some call it Relatefulness.
@@ArtemZen I will have to look further into it. I do like to think a lot about how to facilitate social groups. I can't be very skeptical of things I don't really know anything about, haha! I really appreciate you responding to me, by the way. Makes me want to watch more of these episodes, just to chat with you about these things, for sure!
@@thinkerythunker616 Happy to respond and some healthy skepticism is good especially when approaching spirituality or any topics around psychological transformation 🙏
So if there is nuclear war and 4.2bn die most slow painful deaths i suffer like hundrends of thousands years or more at intensity of 10/10 pain... That is absurd! Not to mention every painful death torture that ever happened - look how terrible this world is...
@@ArtemZen Well thank you for not ignoring my comment. People in Kurzsgesant the egg - which is talking about the same concept talk about this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h6fcK_fRYaI.html If everything is one consciousness than it follow one also suffers all painful deaths and tortures that ever happened. How does not Bernardo, Donald Hoffman, Roger Penrose, Tom Campbell not talk about it. It is obvious question! Most ppl correctly identified that this wouldn't be worth it e.g. in Kurzsgesagt channel and also on Tedex they talked about this , but major scientists never talk about this and are 100% overpositive about everything. I would also ask do you even know that this realm is pure hell 0 to negative infinity as RObert Yampoylski or what is his name talks about - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v0sEcx1Apwc.html&pp=gAQBiAQB Nietzsche said: "life is so terrible it can exist only based on lies" Same proven evolution: evolution hides truths about reality unless they coincide with increased chances of survival. DOnald Hoffman proven the same: after millions years of evolution we see 0% of reality as it is!!! 99.999999% by all their activity are trying to hide from terror and terrible things life is and suppress them deep down...
@@ArtemZen demented yt deleting my comments Ppl in comments in Kursgesagt video talked about it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h6fcK_fRYaI.html and this on TedEx: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bFIVYRfyb3E.html You realize if everything is one than also every painful death and torture was you! Again it is so horrible 99.99999% ppl cannot even consider it might be true... "life is so terrible it can only exist on lies" - Nietzsche. I find it cringe these major scientists don't talk about this aspect - when it is begging the question... All want to be 100% positive like no one wanted to talk about nuclear weapons because it is depressing and ppl forgot about it - now we are miliseconds from midnight... I find it cringe...
Nice interview. Well done 😊 Edit: The mix of personal questions and philosophical topics works really well. I enjoyed this interview tremendously. Like I ve said…well done
I find it puzzling that Bernardo could delve so deeply into the theoretical aspects of consciousness without a corresponding drive to master his conscious state. I've been dedicated to both aspects for nearly 50 years and the mastery of my conscious state has always outweighed my theoretical understanding. It really doesn't matter what anyone thinks about what is. It our conscious relationship to it that counts most.
@@ArtemZen I very well understand the desire for a comprehensive framework for understanding what is, but I don't agree that Bernardo "can't" develop the practical aspects of consciousness. Whatever our proclivities, we've been trained to experience the world as we do and we can train ourselves to experience it differently.
@@ArtemZen Just to add a bit more, I'll assert that to be simply present and conscious without any mental story running through out heads is to experience our true nature. That experience can be described as love, joy, bliss, contentment, fulfillment, etc. Of course, those are just various perspectives on the experience. They are all the same thing. Awareness and cognition aren't dependent on having a story. We do have stories and that's not good or bad - it just is. We should always know that our stories aren't reality, though, but just a commentary on it.
this guy has absolutely no evidence , if somebody thinks he does , you need to learn about a little word called PRECEDENT ... 1 debate you need to see , TJUMP - Bernardo Kastrup ... and you'll see HOW Bernardo's little hypothesis ACTUALLY HOLDS UP IN REALITY ... , little hint ... IT DOESN'T , AT ALL ... there is ABSOLUTELY NO CONNECTION from consciousness to the fundamental nature of reality , none what so ever ... you might as well say that the telescope you look through , to see a galaxy far away , is the fundamental nature of the galaxy you're looking at ... , it's a TOOL , just like your brain / consciousness is THE TOOL you're using to determine IT is the fundamental nature of the universe you're looking at , now , doesn't That sound like total NONSENSE to your ears OR WHAT ??? yeah ... i thought so ... people always think they're SO smart , but fail to see the logic in their thinking ... this guy doesn't HAVE ANY logic , just watch the debate with Tjump and Bernardo , you'll get the gist and how humiliated the guy was , he got DESTROYED COMPLETELY , because he doesn't have any PRECEDENT for his hypothesis and DEFINITELY NO EVIDENCE , he's not even TRYING TO make predictions WITH his hypothesis to ''prove it'' , so what's the god damn POINT in even talking about ANYTHING HE HAS TO SAY ??? you might as well be talking about the leprechauns that made the universe , the DMT ones everyone keeps talking about , maybe They are the fundamental beings that created the cosmos ? it's just a ridiculous notion , same as religion / gods ( that other ridiculous CHILDISH notion that floats around the world ) ... almost all those scrolls and 1000's of holy books say ''don't LIE'' ... , what do people do for 80+ years in their lives , LIE TO THEMSELVES AND EVERYONE AROUND THEM ALL GOD DAMN DAY TILL THEY DIE
I think if you remove all the terpenes from cannabis and only consume pure THC vapor in proper dosage then it may not distort your executive functioning? any thoughts on that?
This interview is so chock full of amazing concepts. I've found them very much in line with my own thinking, yet thay add dimension and clarity. It will be interesting to let this interview brew for a while and see how it modulates my ideas.
Bernardo alludes to the sort of ‘great mind’ of which we are individual expressions, and he also says that this great mind might know less than we do. Wouldn’t the great mind automatically have all these characteristics by default, since there is no actual duality? We are the whirlpools, in the great river of consciousness, but the river contains (and is) the whirlpool at the same time. I’m probably butchering his philosophy here, but I’d very much like to know how he thinks about this part.
The great mind is the collective unconscious its infinite potential… each of our small minds are excitations or finite manifestations of that potential
Bernardo has had some amazing discussions with Rupert Spira and Swami Sarvapriyananda, with the latter especially illuminating through the great Vedanta tradition’s centuries of exploration of the relationship of what you venture as “great mind” and our “whirlpool” which is mind yet again and yet still. Bernardo I know about the destructive effect of tragedies like Palestine and Ukraine on people like you and I and many others. As it has been said the human history is the history of war and mass murder interspersed with periods of calm. We are a sick destructive race, not all of us but enough to have created the legacy that we live with; from regional wars to genocide to destruction of the planet, it is so obvious but the madness is the status quo!
Great questions! You brought out some fascinating ways to think about things out of this man. Great bit about suffering. But what brought me to your channel is your name! My name is ALSO Artem. And you pronounce it the same way too! You're the only other English-speaking Artem I've ever come across! And I am very intrigued by Zen as well!
I think the hardest aspect for most of us is to understand what BK is trying to convey and after watching many interviews on BK I find the brilliant questions in this one to be most revealing …
