This journey alone using regular one-way tickets is usually the same price as a 4-day Interrail Global pass including €30 Eurostar reservation fees. Thus for any return journey between the UK and the continent (for example if I want to travel by train from Manchester to Cologne and back), it makes more sense to buy a 4-day Global Pass (which would definitely be cheaper than any combination of return tickets) and then reserve the necessary Eurostars than to buy regular tickets, even if I don't plan to use the other two travel days. I have checked Raileurope for point-to-point ticket combinations from Preston, my home city, to various cities like Amsterdam, Zürich, Milan, Düsseldorf, etc. Most cases, just one way will end up costing more than a 4-day or even 5-day Global Pass, so a round trip will end up nearly double that, given all tickets (except Eurostar and most flexible tickets in the UK) are single-leg priced with no discount on returns.
@@WINGSANDRAILS I know (watched your other video); I was just comparing the cheapest pass with the point-to-point price of a single journey to highlight how if you just wanted to do one journey, you could easily buy the 4-day pass just for that. Of course, you did a lot more, hence even the bigger 15-day pass saved you hundreds of euros compared with point-to-point tickets.
Funny how the LOCAL trains in Luxembourg are much nicer (Wifi, USB charging, tables, nicer seats, etc.) than what Belgium use on what's supposed to be an Intercity service. Why are they using commuter trains without tables or armrests (except in first class, which is what 2nd class is supposed to be at the bare minimum) when they have so many better trains (like what they use from Brussels, for example) they could be using? Perhaps they should let CFL take over this route with those fancy double deckers they have. Perhaps if I go this way, I may prefer to get off at Troisvierges (perhaps explore this small town a bit) and then change for a better CFL train. In fact, I'm actually surprised they don't have any high-speed lines (or at least continuous 160-200km/h mainlines) into Luxembourg from Belgium or Germany, as the only high-speed service going there is the TGV from France. Surely, they deserve faster trains to Brussels, better trains to Liege that could be extended into the Netherlands and an ICE service to Frankfurt?
I really like those RRX trains; ridden them between Cologne/Bonn airport and Dusseldorf. You'll always find me on the top deck on those type of trains, as British loading gauge does not allow double decker trains. EDIT: Just finished watching the video and that's insane how you actually ended up crossing pretty much the entire country in a day purely by chance!
Even for a basic one-way journey from a regional city in the UK to a city on the continent using just the bare minimum three trains (for example Manchester to Frankfurt which is Avanti on one side then Eurostar then ICE on the other side), a basic 4-day pass plus Eurostar passholder reservation fees will be cheaper. You picked a very fun route through the British Isles BTW. Also, St Pancras itself also has a good variety domestic services if you fancy going to Nottingham or Sheffield, for example.
Actually the decision not stopping at Basel SBB is made from SBB not DB...they are not letting trains inside Switzerland which got a massive delay and they stop them at Basel Bad Bf mostly
Delayed and canceled ist Standard bei DB. In 1 Jahr ICE fahren noch kein Zug in Time und viele storniert.
@@WINGSANDRAILS I’ve only watched 1/3. Haha. Got sidetracked. Will watch the entire video soon! We are planning a very similar trip! Thank you for making this video and sharing your experience!

Lieben Gruß an Euch beide!
