The only problem in this scene is that they nerfed Gandalf so Witch King could look stronger, therefore they could promote the strength of women when Eowyn took him down later. In the book, Witch King had no chance to win against Gandalf the White.
At 5:03, I love when they yell 'Death' for the last time and Eowyn, letting go of all fear, finally joins in the chant. At the very same moment, the shot pans up, the music swells to its peak and you can see the last wisp of cloud shrouding the sunlight give way to the first rays of the morning. Such was the grit of the Rohirrim that even Eru himself chose to bless them before they rode for ruin and the world's ending.
This is quite possible one of the most influential scenes in cinema history. Seeing the Shire in 4K would be worthwhile. I've always wanted to go in person.
R.I.P Bernard Hill Theoden king :( thank you for everything. no one could have played Theoden better. your voice gives us goosebamps. you have the best scene in all movies ever
The original color pallet has it looking more like mud day vs early evening in this, crazy how it influences the mood, this seems darker which is appropriate, just not what we're acustom too
To those who are hear looking for inspiration, paying homage to a great actor, or just looking for something awesome… we are all riders and we ride at dawn!
The last time I saw this trilogy was when I was in grade school. My mind still could not absorb everything at this time and it was boring at some points that I was not paying attention. It was just showing in cable. Then the entire infinity saga came and I watched both infinity war and endgame in theaters and I thought that was the best cinema experience I have ever had. Fast forwards few years I'm now working and one of the things I do before I go to bed is to watch something before I snooze. I decided to rewatch these films. For three days straight I didn't have a good amount of sleep cuz I watched one each night. After finishing this, I told myself that I envy the people who watched these in theaters. This was by far better than end game imo. What a beautiful trilogy. I've been listening to lorecasts ever since.
Hate this decision on the extended edition. Witch King would not have that much power over Gandalf the White. Book and original is so good. Gandalf and Shadowfax standing calmly and alone at the gate. Great. But this clip of the Riders always incredible. Perfect.
just got to buy my first OLED 21:9 display along with my dream speakers/subwoofer, watching this years later in glorious quality has me actually crying it's so beautiful.
