I dont only play them but share the great stories that come with it as each game was a work of love and joy which someone created. I wish to share it with you as I play mostly coop adventurous games in perilous worlds. Hope that you come to enjoy it with me and subscribe :)
Just picked it up in Miniature Market for the insane price of $70. I have a feeling I'll love it but even if I were to not like it the 68 high quality minis it comes with is worth it.
thank you for the review. much appreciated! appears to be an interesting game. unfortunately looks to fiddly with attaching the modules. for me, it would be better as card game.
I now have the Ragnorak expansions as well super excited to play Greek vs Norse. Still one major question from me and i cant seem to solve or combat it, my friend constantly spam loads of units, he would hire 4 or 5 troopers instead or a single hero or monster, block map, and out activate me EVERYTIME. Is there a rule of how many troops you could hire?
I really enjoy this game too, i think the criticism is some manfacturing issues with the board design and rulebook accessibility. I think the system here is good, a little more tile variety would have been nice though, I feel the layouts are a little too samey over time. Though its hard to do with a random dungeon system. The attributes system felt a little half baked as well. Better to spend xp on skills and the major attribute for that character. I feel minor attributes should have not used xp points but some other leveling criteria. However, I really like the way the story unfolds.
Great job breaking down a lot of the rules! This is an older video, but I feel like you could have just summarized the part about might throw only applying when that unit is rolling dice i.e. retaliation or attacking.
Finalizing the video 😅. At 2:21:51, Ghardhak can't be the target of any attack due to his bodyguard ability. Regarding enemy focus, although there aren't reinforcements in this quest, you need to raise it because passing through a clock symbol will increase the time track.
Thanks for these, just discovered. You're brave, handling 4 heroes at the same time, I usually play with two. I think you have a mistake discarding the encounter at the beginning of the round. If I'm not wrong, conditions are checked at the end, in the encounter phase. 1:24:09
As I also discovered by playing the game wrong, you can’t use the same type of card on the same unit per turn. For example: you used two Reap cards on the same Tripod in same turn. My first play of this was horrible. The game felt broken and over quickly and it just seemed like something wasn’t right. It was also impossible to buy good cards as well during the game without killing off your starter deck. Maybe I missed something there also. Not managing my deck correctly. Plenty of turns where I had cards that I couldn’t do anything with. Not a fan of the rulebook either. I’ll give it another go though.
Your one of the few on RU-vid who genuinely enjoyed the game. SFG had the core game for $50, so I figured for that price it was worth the shot. Thanks!
@@user-bm3ts2ql6s It came out to almost $550 US. and It included everything. I don't have many people round me that play infinity so I wanted a game that you can play solo in that universe. I really do wish infinity would take another look at this game and re-releases it and give it another chance.
07:00 - Are you SURE that one is a coin, while being the EXACT same icon? I'm not sure how can it be more intuitive (maybe with an icon for adjacency), but I think that those two identical target symbols with two different values on - are: 2 damage at "this" area and 1 damage at the adjacent area.
This game desperately needed player aids and reference cards. Production quality was top notch, but they really needed more playtesting of this before releasing. It is like you said, there are a lot of things in this game that's very "fiddly".
You certainly can distribute the player aid.. it's only when you try to monetize it that you run afoul of copyright laws. There's hundreds of custom player aids on the web. It would be awesome if you can post this on BGG or someone else in .pdf form.
As a child, I played the Barbarian. Now, the Wizard is my style. The gameplay is easy. And that is the best and worst thing in this game. House Rules are necessary in my oppinion, If you want to play with adults.
I wish I’d seen this before I bought the game yesterday! I can confirm that you’re worries about newbie gamers is correct - this is a nightmare for beginners! It took HOURS just to try and set it up.
Thanks for the review. I love the 1953 version of war of the worlds. The Tom Cruise version wasnt very good. And even though the book is set at the turn of the century 1898, I prefer the 1953 movie version from just a stylistic sense.
well I can see the issues on 12:10. Too small texts means either that the game was made smaller in hindsight, but also the card placeholders are too wide. The insert was a good first iteration but the overall quality screams kickstarter first edition. Games like these - you should always have the patience to wait for a second edition. There are always enough fools that want it right now and will have a suboptimal experience. Don't be a fool. And if you like d20 so much get Arydia and Xia. Both these games are excellent - I studied its rulebook.
Dont agree with that sentiment at all and if you played it then you would know the weight it offers for any gamer. I dont think there will be a revision to some of the issues i mentioned but overall feel this is an awesome game and has every rpg sense for any true d&d lover... the storyline, the adventure paths, the items etc.. overload of goodness. A good and worth buy
@@rpgamepire5549 around 20:45 I guess, where I just gave up on the video. I can recommend to make tuck boxes. You can find the designs on bgg file section. They speed up gameplay and setup, and they are great at combining with MF cards. The typos that the entire product is riddled with I could forgive, the old brown borders, the bad artwork I found tolerable, but I found the rulebook turgid, the learn to play guide aggravating. I sold off HotM (at a 50% loss due to almost no buyer interest), but I did make several videos on the product, which you might find useful. They are scheduled to come online next week. Given the total lack of aftersale care, I will not buy anything from NSKN ever again.
@@kosterix123 i hear you, though overall i love the game and agree with most of your points if it can be overlooked... Looking forward to seeing your gameplay and i personally plan to keep it. Enjoy and always appreciate the pointers :)
@@rpgamepire5549 I suspect that even an expert such as yourself doesn't fully realize how incredibly influential the game was, and how modern games are indebted to MF's creator.
@@rpgamepire5549 around the 25th minute. You can also check your youtube analytics 🙂 I know because I made quite some videos myself. But I always keep a local backup in case youtube goes insane.
Thank You SO much for your help in showing how to play this Game. I was a bit stuck at first. I recently purchased it, and having bought many Solitaire Games, I have to say this was REALLY cheap!! I was quite puzzled, as the quality is exceptional - even to the thick quality glossy box! The artwork on the Cards is BEAUTIFUL, and the Game really enjoyable to play! I LOVE the theme, since l love anything to do with time and Time Travel, plus there are a couple of nice touches; like the double-sided Player Card, for male and female Players; the ‘Percentile’ dice made a simple, but refreshing change from the usual ‘roll and beat’ scoring in just numbers by using a ‘percentage’ idea! This would also be of interest to anyone who loves history and historical events. Cards are of excellent quality, and I simply couldn’t understand why it was so cheap... Solo Games are notoriously expensive - never got one this good, and this cheap before! I’d recommend it to all Solo Players!
What did you think of the first new type encounter called 'outlast'? Fatesong seems to be the best support for the group as they venture forward if you agree? Her main bardic support focuses on allowing the adventurers to play an extra turn while enhancing their attacks with advantage :)
I really like your review and appreciate your passion. As a long, long time dungeon crawler the "weight" of the setup and gameplay still makes me hesitate. I still own my old copy of Warhammer Quest - I wonder if you can compare WHQ to this game - is it a richer experience?
Hi Walt, WHQ is legendary and still holds the test of time in my opinion. Let me try to answer your question; The first few encounters you may hit frustration, but its NOT because of its 'weight' but from learning the game flow. Setup shouldn't take more than 10m max. Assuming you be adventuring this be the standard behaviour... 1. which quest we doing? 2. Put together the needed aspect cards, tile cards and enemy cards which is very straight forward. 3. What type of node it is? That will decide what type of playthrough it be, so just makes it more interesting then the usual standard crawls... 3. place the miniatures on the board and go pick a fight 4. Complete the Node/Encounter and do the maintenance phase... If notice i am playing with 5 adventurers and if didn't blahblah lol too much a "Standard Crawl" would take me max 30m. What makes this game awesome there so much variables and twists that can add or take time from that also there are different type of nodes.. Also there is the wandering monster scenario where you suddenly get overwhlemed etc... My point is the setup to me is as simple and straight forward to most dungeon crawlers but first learn the game mechanics to make your runs short and weet to the point.. If playing with a group of friends then my calculation went out the window lol as we know not every buddy takes the same time to do his turns ;) Hope i helped you and between us i am into my 4rth quest in the campaign and have to say setup has never been an issue aside from me playing crazy 5 characters solo lol... Much fun and and so much variables and anything can happen with a great story so far with 5 different endings.. I love it! Hope i was helpful in my response :)
@@Vlad65WFPReviews I would 'recommend' to consider buying FABLES expansion at least with the core box.. this adds not only new foes but much more adventurers with new abilities which can multi class with greater variety... Then again the corebox has much fun with it but the wow factor kicks in with the expansion in honest opinion. Either way an overall great buy and please let me know your thoughts of it there after :)
Good video, Im considering getting the retail version, but a bit put off by some of the negativity. I really want a d&d esque experience, and this appears to be it. You have encouraged me to go for it👍
"Horus" (into warhammer btw?, just a guess :) ) Btw, If you saw my third (more to come) video, it gives more insight to the gameplay etc... if you enjoy D&D and making your own adventures then you can surely expand from this content and more. The core box alone is good but with the fables expansion it becomes GREAT.. the lower levels box set gives more skills/abilities which can be good for your own adventures... Overall FABLES expansion is a must for the more content and more adventurers; otherwise it be hard for me to push JUST the core box.... There are certain things in design they could of done differently but doesnt change my view on loving it. It hits all the right pistons.. btw you can MULTICLASS your adventurer(s) :) so that makes it a ++ Enjoy and I plan to add the next chapter early next week as we delve deeper into the story (lore). Knowing steamforge, they will have much more expansions for it
Thanks for the review! I was worried by other reviews since I haven't had time to delve into this game. We seem to have similar likes so I am looking forward to trying this system out.
You very welcome and enjoy it :) If you liked the D&D system series of castle raveloft, wrath of ashardelon, legend of drizzt etc.. then you will surely like this as it carries that system but with more depth. Also if you have any questions do share as i would be happy to help
Has a good mix of it all but excited to venture into the depths of the ancient forge :) Reminds me somewhat of D&D adventure games and other great games. Looking forward to see how the story unfolds. Hope you enjoy it as i will :)
