@normanwoodhead6982 Thank you for stopping in to watch the video but based on your comment I think you must have missed this part 01:13. Kansas is a large state and I had never been there until I started this journey. I find so many interesting things about it every time I cross it now. More on Kansas to come. Mark
Great sharing of the colorful Colorado. I can’t get enough of how beautiful the scenery is from the mountains to the plateaus , the rivers and the canyons. I’m your new subscriber. All the best on your new journey ❤
@soniaprovido1182 Thank you so much for your kind words and for subscribing! I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed the video and appreciate Colorado's stunning landscapes as much as I do. Your support means a lot to me. If you liked this one, you might enjoy some of my other videos as well. Beware of the earliest videos as they are a bit rough to watch, but I’ve been working on improving my editing. I will redo some of them at some point. I find it to be an enjoyable hobby. All the best back to you as well. Mark
I drove this pass a few years ago going eastbound, and it was beautiful, but it looks even better going westbound. I will have to do it again going westbound next time.
I drove back east over the Sierra Nevadas after visiting Yosemite on 88 which is Carson Pass. Breathtaking. If you are interested and haven’t watched it, my Stokes Castle vid contains that drive. Landscapes change dramatically in that video. Thanks for stopping in, I appreciate ya. Mark
Thanks for tuning into the video and dropping a comment, Manfred! I really appreciate it. There's an endless amount to explore up there-one day just doesn't cut it! Mark
Usually during the summer is the best time to travel from Sonora or Bridgeport the scenery is so beautiful, but I noticed that there’s snow on the mountains so it looks like during the spring. But you can see the scars from the fire a couple years ago.
I’m a bit behind on my videos and you are correct, this was toward the end of May last year. We were going from Bodie over to Yosemite and the Tioga pass was still closed. Fortunately, Sonora Pass was open and was a fantastic alternate route. I’m glad I got to drive it. Thanks for stopping in and commenting. Mark
You are welcome. Thanks for taking the time, I appreciate the comment. I probably should wait until later in the day to avoid recording the sun but I like to get the driving part out of the way early. 🌄 Mark
Hey G, that rest stop was incredible. Unfortunately I seem to have misplaced most of the photos I took of both places in the video. CNM coming soon! Mark
You are welcome. It was the first time over and was a little nervous about the unknown but once it was in motion, it was a fantastic drive. I appreciate ya. 👍 Mark
Hey, @somedayistodayrv thank you for taking the time and stopping by to drop a comment. I appreciate that very much. It is the grand daddy of em all after all. Mark
Hey @mikesandro8578 thanks for stopping in checking out the video and leaving a comment. Well yes, I would consider it abandoned since all the crumbling asphalt show signs that it may have been maintained sometime in the distant past. It was a great stop and I enjoyed it very much there as I tried to relay in my video. Great hike, beautiful lake and an all around interesting place, Walker Lake and Hawthorne NV. Mark
Hey Remy, the sign says house trailer, is that old world for RV? I’m not sure. Someone got a grader up there so? I’m in a 25’ Class C with no trailer and some turns were a little tight.
Thank you for the compliment I’m glad you enjoyed it. The town is quite interesting and the views from up there are phenomenal. I highly recommend visiting Bodie. I appreciate ya. Mark
Thanks for checking out the video and leaving a comment. Lake Walker and that abandoned RV park was a welcomed site after driving from Amargosa Valley. Nice spot, I stopped to overnight and stayed an extra day. Mark Thanks,
I've seen all these pictures of Bodie and haven't seen the jail. I've got a picture My dad took in the 1960s of me and my best friend Jackie Butler standing in the Bodie jail with our hands on the bars
Hey, I did not see a jail there. It may be gone, as you can see, some of the remaining buildings don’t have much time left. I can’t believe that town swelled to 10,000 people. Thanks for leaving a comment. Mark
Hey Manfred, glad to see you here at Vagabond Senior. Thanks for your comment. Zion is definitely a top tier National Park and worth every minute spent there. Take care. Tschuss Mark
Hey there, thanks for the question. (Big Dune) I was on US-95 N heading north past the Area 51 Alien Center. There were a couple of signs that indicated Big Dune to the left, I believe I took the second left onto the washboard road of BLM land (14 day limit). (Walker Lake) I was still on US-95 N past Hawthorne, NV and the abandoned RV Park was on the right. Both were great places to boondock. I appreciate ya. Mark
Thanks for stopping by. It was a great place to boondock. I believe there was a better entrance a mile back or so off the highway that led right to the dunes. This road led to the dunes as well but I had to stop short when the washboard road got to be too much. Mark
@@janerockstar Hi janerockstar, thank you so much for your suggestion. The original intent was to just let the drive and the photos do the talking. However, with that said you make a valid point and I should add a personal touch. I’m not a very outgoing person but I promise, I am now working on adding some intro commentary. By the way, I pretend to play a little guitar. I included a recording of me in one of the videos. Not saying which one though. Thanks again, I appreciate ya. Mark
I've been there several times, latest in september 2018. I walked the Volksmarch and stood on the arm of the monument. There is a huge different to see!! In 2018 they were just started with the pointing finger and now the hand is almost completed. Yes, it goes slowly and yes it takes a lot of time, so what? Great things take time.
I saw recent footage from a drone, the hand and fingernails are shaping along nicely. This is a slow process, listening to the tour guide when I visited the monument the Lakota Indian Tribe are determine to make this into a reality.
Yes, that is the same information and what some of the Lakota told me when I was there. It’s a very interesting and worthwhile undertaking. The cost of those helicopter rides should speed up the process.
Hey G. Yeah, that is my second time through Page. The Lake is much lower this time through, however, the level has recovered somewhat I hear. I’ll need to go through again. Mark
I was there in 74 when I was in high school. It was a beautiful place. Horse back riding, and we toured a mine. We didn't go see Crazy Horse then. Just Mtn. Rushmore. 👍
Hey G, thanks for stopping in. I enjoyed the comment, 🤣 Yes February, with the current writers strike I’ve fallen way behind on my videos. Maybe I’ll catch up, maybe I won’t. I’m having fun making them so what the heck. 😺 V/S
I had just watched and commented on another video about the Crazy Horse Monument before finding this one. This video has more recent footage of the monument. Unfortunately, work on the monument doesn't appear to have progressed much since I had visited in 1997. I was still a kid, but from what I remember, Crazy Horse's face was nearing completion. Since then, it appears little work has been completed on his arm. I wish I were in a position to make a substantial financial contribution to help see the work be completed in my lifetime. I do admire the Crazy Horse Foundation's perseverance, though. I understand the project began way back in the 1940s. They'll be coming up on the 100th anniversary soon enough.
Hi, thanks for stopping in and checking out the video. I was there about a year and a half ago and was the only one on the bus to get a closer look. The helicopters weren’t flying up to the head and I assumed the reason was either off season or Covid. The gentleman who drove the bus mentioned that he was Lakota and seemed to think that the monument would never be finished, at least not in his lifetime. Not sure how much of the public is aware of this monument. It is a pity because it is such an awe inspiring sight to see and the pictures do not come close to the actual. You may have noticed that the indoor model depicts an entire complex planned around the sculpture. ? on that. The finished sculpture would be the 8th wonder of the world but 75 years and that is the progress so far. Mark
Hey G. Sorry, I didn’t see your comment. Yes those sand dunes are much bigger and much more spread out than I’ve presented here. They are also much further than they appear. I personally have a difficult time walking on concrete so walking in sand is limiting for me. Which is why the camel suggestion, ha. It’s a great (it’s in the name) and interesting place to visit. Don’t skip it. Mark
Lived in Rapid City 23 years ago. Used to go on the volks march up on crazy horse next to the face every year. Doesn't look any different today. I think it is just becoming a tourist destination. Don't see how they will ever get the funds to complete it.
