I’ve watched thousands of golf videos and this is one of if not the best all around golf tip I have seen. If you get the takeaway right everything else seems to fix itself.
Sharpie marker on the alignment stick is a fantastic tip for consistent setup. What I thought was the ball position just ahead of centre was actually too far forward. Putting the ball more in the centre using the alignment stick has made my putting way more consistent. The view down actually looks like it is more in the back of the stance but I know it isn't so this gives great confirmation and feedback. I've just made 100 putts in a row from 6 feet. The ball is rolling truer and straighter.
Mike, you are an absolute legend! Do you by chance have an image of that right hand/trigger finger? I was 100% doing what you described in this video with my wedges, leading to fat contact and horrible consistency. Do you do this with all the clubs? Lastly, this might have saved my golf game. I was ready to step away because my wedges are so bad - thank you!
I understand that you keep it squeezed also in the follow through?? I keep my elbow too close to my body when I hold the towel… obviously… I make something wrong! Can you come back on this topic?? Thanks!
Great lesson! Love everything you talk about here. Only question: really looks like the club is very steep coming down. Club never seems to line-up with the right forearm on the way down, shouldn't it?? Doesn't it need to be more "shallow"?
That was exceptional, not many coaches/ teachers talk about that trail hand index finger,,thumb postion, outstanding call, no doubt this young man will be a star, if you're an exceptional athlete who's teachable, sky's the limit.really nice job coach, I subscribed and ill definitely be checking in when I can, Thank you.
As we all know the path of the clubhead on the downswing is closer to the central axis. This reduces the rotational inertia of the body! Remember the demo in high school science class, where a person sits on a freely rotating stool with their arms and legs extended, and then, when the arms and legs are pulled in toward the body, the angular speed of the stool-body system increases! This is how iceskaters increase their rate of spinning , by pulling their arms and legs inward . This is an example of the conservation of angular momentum.
This did not work UNTIL I remembered this is a body rotation shot, not an arm swing with wrist cock shot. When I tried it like demonstrated in this video, it worked like a charm. thanks, Mike.
It is a fantastic video; a lightbulb went off with the two alignment rods. Not to make the drill a “triple-lindy,” but can you combine it with a towel under the arm connection drill?
Great video. Thank you. Is it OK to grip the club from the middle of the index finger to the base of the little finger. I find this grip more secure. Cheers
Thanks! You guys are great. My son is just starting golf trying to make the high school golf team. This was the first video I sent him to watch. You and Adam are the best !
Can you just set the club by pushing down the left heel pad with slight shoulder movement down the toe line and have it hover over the ball at slight 45 degree angle then simply then simply turn your shoulders to the top and hit balls ?
Such a classic drill. That’s the benefit of having a good instructor. Once the issue is diagnosed, they can find the simplest drill to build a new feel. Nice.
