Hawaiian is also a citizenship. Back in the days of the Queen, she called all her subjects Hawaiians. The natives are Hawaiians by bloodline, but the citizens were once all called “Hawaiian” and everyone living in Hawai’i spoke fluent Hawaiian. Now, since the overthrow, Hawaiian is used to identify genealogy, not citizenship.
Well, once again we are shamed because we don’t do something else right in Hawaii. Sorry, but we can’t tell who is full, half, quarter, or 1/100 Hawaiian. You may be Filipino, but you look Hawaiian for the most part and you live in Hawaii. I call all people who live in California, Californians, regardless of their race or ethnicity. I call all people who live in New York, New Yorkers. If you live in the State of Hawaii, you are Hawaiians because that’s the name of your State. Be proud! It’s truly an honor to be called Hawaiian! I bet when you go to Japan, you can’t tell who isn’t Japanese. Can you even tell who is part Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, Mongolian, Indonesian, etc. who live in your islands? You get all the ethnicities correct all the time? Get over yourself or move to the Philippines so you won’t be needlessly tushy-hurt anymore. And try to find some Aloha spirit even though you’re Filipino. It’s woefully needed these days. It’s the highest, holiest Love on planet Earth. By the way, I’m English, Irish, Scots, and Danish, but you all just call me a haole. By your standards, that’s incredibly rude and offensive. Walk your talk, or be quiet and learn.
Well you hit the insufficiency of language: People that live at a place are usually called by the place. So there ethnic Hawaiians and there are resident Hawaiians. Of course one can split that but that kinda nasty because that would mean either being Foreigners or Settlers and in the worst case, for say white continental "Americans" it would mean them to be colonialists. ...
The problem is most Hawaiians dont participate in ekections. Self interested people count on them not voting, and get easy wins. The people are miserable and not represented because they refuse to participate. So they blame Haoles and tourists. If they want real change, they have to change. The damage is so bad that it wont change in a week, but its a start. Not voting has consequences. No matter how bad they dont want to be a part of the system, they are. They might as well participate. In 2016, the people spoke, and it shocked the establishment with a Trump win. Id love to see Hawaiians win and get real representation. The people that vote, and win, care more about the turtles and environment more than the plight of the people. Vote for true representation or quit complaining.
False information. 1) If you are born on Hawaiian soil, you are considered a Hawaiian Subject a.k.a Hawaiian 2) Everyone is misusing the word Kanaka Maoli as if it refers to Native Hawaiian. It is not. The translation to it is Pure Blood, in which majority of Native Hawaiians aren’t 100%. 3)The actual term for Native Hawaiian is Kanaka ‘Ōiwi, those who have literally acenstral trace & koko (blood) to Hawai’i. 4)Posting about not calling local people Hawaiian or not is stupid anyways, especially when many represent the Hawaiian islands wherever they go, regardless of what race/nationality you come from. I guarantee she da same lol.
PREACH 🙌🏾 I hear many people calling themself Hawaiian just because they have lived here on the islands for majority of there life, living in Hawaii doesn’t make you Hawaiian, only a local. Hawaiian is an ethnicity. Period.
This is actually wrong The native Hawaiian ethnicity is Kanaka Maoli Hawaii is in fact just the name of one island of the archipelago Saying all of the Kanaka Maoli are Hawaiian is actually pretty ignorant and even somewhat discriminatory of their culture Hawaii is also the name of the US state so like it or not, anyone born in Hawaii is Hawaiian Is a term the Europeans and Americans used to refer to the islands by just rather using the name of the biggest island of the archipelago, which came on to name the state, not the people, as Hawaii and therefore hawaiian, the natives never used the term Hawaiian unless referring to the people FROM the island of Hawaii out of all the other islands they inhabited Is like how Japan gets its terms The ethnicity of your average native Japanese is the Yamato ethnicity While any none Yamato foreigner that lives in Japan might be Japanese (which is a legal term, like Hawaiian) but not ethnically Yamato Same thing with Hawaii Hawaiian refers to the people FROM the US state of Hawaii, making Hawaiian be a legal term, while the term Kanaka Maoli refers to the native ethnicity of Hawaii Excuse me but saying what you said is utterly ignorant and wrong Is like saying an Arizonan is not an Arizonan because the Pueblo Navajo Hopi and other groups are the natives These groups in its time would in fact, rather die than referring to themselves as a colonial term like Arizonan, same is with Kanaka Maoli with the term Hawaiian Is like saying the Germans aren't German because the actual natives from there were the neanderthals or the hunter gatherers that lived there thousands of years before the Indo-Europeans and the Anatolian farmers culture arrived to the land Or saying the Australians aren't Australian because the Aboriginals were there first Australia is a European origin term you know? Hawaii for defining the WHOLE group of islands is also a colonial term, and therefore so is Hawaiian, the Kanaka Maoli never referred to themselves as Hawaiian unless they lived in the biggest of the islands, which IS the only one named Hawaii Sheesh woman do a little investigation first This is something only an American would think Not just because there's settlers means there's evil
I bought a brand new townhouse for $450. I’m waiting till rates drop so I can refinance and use a heloc to buy a 2nd property and repeat the process until I passive income is consistent. What do you think ?
The problem with this issue is the lack of respect, period, on both sides. Anyone who lives in Hawaii knows that calling oneself Hawaiian in Hawaii is reserved for those who have indigenous Koko. Just like those who live in Hawaii, Hate it when outsiders come into our home and try to change it or tell us how to live. In that same aspect, we need to accept others' customs and ways of doing things. Like on the mainland., everyone knows that if you are from Texas, you're called a Texan. But at the same time, people know the difference between an American vs a Native American or Indigenous American. This issue is a play on words. This is another example of how Western political correctness just doesn't fit in indigenous peoples' issues. To make something like this or pineapple on pizza and calling it Hawaiian as a platform issue for Indigenous Hawaiian issues is kind of insulting to real cultural assimilation that is happening now in the current tourism economy of the islands and other life and death issues that affect Kanaka every day that gets no publicity.
I got a property I need your help on: the owner is willing to drop the price because the electrical will not be turned on for due diligence and there is a possible plumbing problem and it will only require cosmetic all the other three majors are ok; how can I contact you?
seen enough network tv flip show tour, what I have a problem with and could be helped is to see a tour of the funding process in detail showing the challenges or asks and lender requirements and who you go to to get money for your portion like earnest money and down payment and your portion required by the lenders
If someone that lives in California is a Californian and someone that resides in Texas is a Texan, then what do you call somebody that lives in Hawaii?
But it was not always like that. Even in statehood, there were times when you could buy a home in Oahu for 30k. However, that same 30k home today is a million. How come? Same home, same Aina? The problem with Hawaii has been the same problem since the overthrow. There has been a clash of cultural values in the islands that has changed the way one lives and what is important. All one has to do is look at Hawaiian history and her pictures and compare them to areas on the mainland to see how change has affected us negatively.
