Great time capsule of a film. Recent history but still half a century ago as I write. Lovely to see the BUA VC10. I wonder what became of the folk featured in the film.
17:54 I remember growing up as a kid, some shops close early on Wednesday afternoons and almost all shops closed on a Sunday. Now shops are open 7 days a week.🤣
Fascinating video. I was born in Harlow in 1972 so can relate to a lot of this video. Sadly we now live in a world so far removed from this in every way. Great that we have these lovely films and our memories. By the way , I think that's Richard Baker narrating?
I was born in 1970 but didn't live in Crawley till 1986. Really interesting looking at this. It's quite quaint this video. Tomes have definitely changed
Crawley really was a great place to grow up as a child in the 1970s, lots of happy memories, everything was new, new house new school new sports centre, a great enviroment for kids, and there was a real feeling of optimism for the future in the town 👍
I'm a Crawley boy. I love the town growing up was so peaceful. I went to Thomas Bennett and lived in Broadfield played for Corinthians fc. Unfortunately the community atmosphere has died off, I think alot of it started with the knocking down of the of youth club/play centres where i spent my happy childhood. Now kids have nowhere to socialise nowhere safe to go and get to know other kids from different backgrounds. Now people are shoehorned into horrible brutal narrow street developments or worse or bunged up in brutalist sardine cans nightmare monstrosities like the old babcock building in the town. Maybe I'm just getting old. But happy memories. I love this town.
I moved with my family to Crawley in 1969 and left in 1976 i was 5 when we moved there so pretty much my childhood was spent there, I go back every now and then but my road is now gone, Robinson Road which is now part of the Asda Carpark, still I have wonderful memories of Crawley and still love it to this day :) thanks for sharing this :)
@@robstanden279 Hi Rob , I most certainly am, it did me good to see your reaction,. You still living in Crawley? I’ve been living in the Netherlands for the last 40 years, it was quite a trip down memory lane seeing those films on RU-vid.
@@jamesdenton4880 Amazing! My last visit to Crawley was maybe 2010. Well, I emigrated to Canada in '94. Am now a citizen and live in Vancouver. Still riding motorbikes, currently Honda Shadow 750. Last I remember you had an AJS 250 with a Goldie silencer.
@@robstanden279 There’s certainly nothing wrong with your memory, I was 16 when I bought the AJS, these days my Britishness is kept alive by a nicely restored MGB which I love driving.. my last visit to England was 2016 as I still have a brother living in Crawley. I drove past three bridges free church then accompanied by quite a few memories.
@@jamesdenton4880 I see that the next commenter is Thomas Denton. Related??? I only remember your brother's nickname - Dilly. BTW I'm still in touch with the Lamont brothers.
I lived in Crawley for 23 years until 4 years ago. I love this film, 1970 was a simpler time, more respectful and respectable. I wonder where the people in the film are 50 years later.
Study his cousin more like 🤣🤣 Love this vid! I’ve worked for crawley Council for 17 years and lived in Crawley my whole life. A lot has changed and more change to come. Wish I could go back in time.
A long long time ago it was known as Crow wood , and was a very peaceful place , and then modern times came along and changed its name destroyed its magic , cut its mighty trees and the Crows left , now it’s a concrete wasteland.
the place had never been investigated before so we only had limited camcorders and only found out the pool balls moving sound when i was reviewing the footage, tried to go back for a second investigation but because the pub is so busy it's hard to get a time when we and the landlord is free
I was only born 12 years ago so I don't really know what the 'old' Crawley was like but I would love to go back in time as I've been doing quite a lot of research about the past of Crawley recently.
Interesting film, I was born in Broadfield , Crawley when ours was the only house there, surrounded by woods and fields. Could walk for miles and not see anyone. How changed Broadfield is now and Crawley. I know people have to live somewhere but it breaks my heart to go back now.
Just strting to watch and if all people there are accounted for what the hecks moving the pool balls? very darn weird and also the other things going off,i see a movement in the light to the right of the REM pod on the bar its in the bottom part of the bright light behind the bar and is black moving left to right at time 3:00 it also seen in the pump badge on the bar 1st one to right of light >?at 21:13 i hear a tap then a male say "Draughts or drafts!"followed by what seems to say " Hi smearl its frank!"
