I’m having trouble with calibrating my image to be totally square. Do all these projectors you recommend have keystone adjustments? Mine doesn’t. It’s ceiling mounted, and perfectly square in the center, but distorted at the outer edges.
@projectorsewing
@projectorsewing 7 дней назад
Yes, all of these projectors have keystone adjustments. Some are manual with a dial around the edge, others use digital keystone which can be found in the projector settings menu. However, if you use Pattern Projector to calibrate, perfect keystone adjustments don’t really matter anymore.

When I select a pattern piece which I want to alter, I am getting small boxes (with dotted outlines) surrounding segments of the pattern. For instance, there is one around the neckline, one around the shoulder seam and on around the armscye etc. Why are these there. With that one pattern piece selected, I am unable to change the stroke colour or width. Are there some sort of settings that I need to change?
@elisewilliams8681
@elisewilliams8681 7 дней назад
The small boxes are also stopping me from being able to duplicate the entire pattern piece. I have tested this on more than one pattern from different designers with the same results.
@projectorsewing
@projectorsewing 7 дней назад
@@elisewilliams8681which designer is it? Without seeing a photo, there are two possibilities that come to mind. First, you may need to ungroup the pattern if all of the pattern pieces are grouped together. Second with the neckline being seperate from the armscye, it sounds like the pattern lines are not joined. You can use the node tool to select the nodes on two parts of the pattern and join. This can be time consuming though. Sometimes it can be quicker to just trace the pattern with the pen tool depending what you need to do with the pattern. Are you in the projectors for sewing Facebook group? If so you can add a photo and get recommendations there too. Do you just want thicker lines? Or what adjustments are you planning on making?
@elisewilliams8681
@elisewilliams8681 7 дней назад
@@projectorsewing The main pattern I have been trying to work with is a Love Notions pattern, Terra Tunic projector file. I have tried a couple of other designer's pattern and run into the same issue. I have been attempting to do a square shoulder adjustment. If I can get that sorted out, then I'd try a sway back adjustment. I did finally manage to get the lines heavier. Although I'm not sure how I did that. How do I know if the pattern is grouped and how do I ungroup all the pieces? There are tiny spaces between the boxed areas - the shoulder seam and the armscye aren't a continuos line. Yikes, there's a learning curve to this! I am in that Facebook group. I'll look through there and see what else I can find.
@projectorsewing
@projectorsewing 7 дней назад
@@elisewilliams8681Love Notions have a known issue that the pattern lines are not joined. I find it fastest on Love Notion patterns to just trace the size you need using the pen tool, then do you pattern alterations.

In this same program, you can draw a line and flip the pattern along the line to “unfold” it. Another option is to use a graphics program such as Inkscape or Affinity Designer to unfold the pieces. Checkout some of my videos on these programs if you’re interested in learning that.

If you have at least 52” from ceiling , I like the Yoton mounted on the ceiling. Comes with builtin WiFi to connect to your tablet. The AAXA is also great if you have a larger budget. It will give you a larger cutting image size. Ultra short throws take a bit more space in the room around the table, so not great for small areas, in my opinion.

@@reneemorgan9320 They are both about the same to learn. Affinity Designer has less “stability” issues, but Inkscape has really improved recently. Yes, you can calibrate with a plain mat. It is useful to have something with which you can mark the found corners of your rectangle. You also need to calibrate to a rectangle generally within 6" or so of the projection edges. I recommend using a metal tape measure to measure the length and width of your rectangle.

There are so many different software to manipulate sewing pattern digitally, is there one that you find is the best to learn from the get go? I really don’t want to learn for each one and then decided which I prefer I just don’t have the extra time. I do have affinity designer on my Mac, should I just go with that for editing ie shortening patterns and grading etc? Or do you think Inkscape would be easier to learn vs AD. @projectorsewing
@projectorsewing Месяц назад
It comes down to personal preference. Inkscape use to crash a lot more which led me to using Affinity Designer early on. Updates to Inkscape have made it more stable and improved its features. There are a few features of Affinity Designer that I really like, but everything is very doable in Inkscape too. Before the new projecting programs, I preferred projecting from Inkscape over Affinity Designer. The only feature that is still lacking in Inkscape is the ability to export layered PDFs for projecting, but I think they are working on adding that feature. Inkscape is free and Affinity Designer has a free trial. Give them both a try and see what you like better. Dailey Sews and Stuff recently released a course for Affinity Designer. I’ll be releasing a course in late Fall on Inkscape for sewing.
