I have no issues with an owner fixing their car themselves as dealer maintenance and labour can run a fortune. However, it baffles me as to how people buy these cars and use cheap garbage in order to try and fix the problems themselves. Every car manufacturer charges at least one hour shop time to diagnose any problem. With the money that you saved on labour, you should have used a higher end sound dampening material best suited for what you're trying to eliminate. ie: Dynamat. Instead, you cheap out and use a product that gives off a terrible odour and isn't a true sound dampening material. Like Henry stated in his comment, it appears that your vehicle is missing the factory foam sound dampening material and thus the reason you're experiencing a high amount of road noise.
My W219 has a thick foam on the sheet metal separating the rear seat area from the trunk. It is about 1/4" thick. My car is the same year (2006) and it's very quiet.
I find it hard to believe you've been recording that for however many minutes, and at no point it occurred to you to turn the phone horizontally. Boggles the mind.
The gas smell issue is a recall, just go to the dealer and they will fix it up for free. That roof seal is not the same as typical sound deadening, it’s made of bitumen pitch, and will start melting and smell at higher temperature, if you put it around the area where exhaust is then it will actually run, and the typical sound deadening uses raw rubber. But if you want to eliminate the smell, you need to tape all the seams with aluminum tape.
Man I had to dig almost cut it out… it’s a screw when you actually get it out.. so it just doesn’t pop out like one guy said.. so it has to be twisted out or cut out
