Hi! Thank you! For elemental gunlances, I didn't use them, but I think it depends on how much of the non-shelling attacks you're going to be using against the target monsters. I can't share any experience about elemental gunlances, but consider these points: - Consider the shell type. That will influence what proportion of your attack types would be. However, I find that the proportion is also largely dependent on the monster. Some monsters with short attack windows make it significantly more difficult to lay in Burst Fire and Wyrmstake than other monsters, even with PE. You also have to consider the risk of accidentally sliding in when tapping for a quick Wyrmstake-died too many times to accidental sliding. - If you use elemental or crit skills, then it will only augment the non-shelling attacks, but allows you to deal more damage overall. - If you go for other damage-boosting skills like Sneak Attack or even Bubbly Dance/Resuscitate, you raise both the shelling and non-shelling attacks conditionally. - If you go for Partbreaker, you also raise the damage of both types of attack but for the purpose of breaking body parts, which can be a boon for the slow Gunlance by opening up windows of opportunity for you to lay in more combos. Hi! 1) Why Partbreaker: Because there are very few skills that affect shelling damage. Burst Fire and Wyrmstake require wide openings from the monsters in order to execute successfully, and breaking parts earlier and more frequently can help to break up monster behaviour and give you the opening you need to apply the DPS. 2) Why no Lock-on: I don't need lock-on. This gives me full control of where to aim and fine-tune my Burst Fire and Wyrmstakes. It's tricky enough to control the Gunlance, so I don't want to also manage the finicky Lock-On mechanism that would only serve as a distraction from applying the Gunlance where distraction often means a knock-out. @@stampeder7365 I’m just saying, if you swap out your chest and gloves for the tzitzi chest and gloves. You’ll get level 3 status sneak. It makes it more likely to proc the poison/build up. I have a 10.5 rathian bow and even with monsters who aren’t weak to poison. I can proc the status at least three times. Hope that helps! 👍🏼
Ah, I understand! I didn't use that combination for the 9★ monsters because Pukei Bow has a significantly lower poison value than Rathian (though not as low as Pink Rathian's poison weapons), thus it's better to leverage the higher attack power than to improve an "average" stat against monsters which have huge weak points to be exploited by physical attacks. I did try this combination against Zinogre, but there's simply insufficient poison to proc one more cycle even on the best poison run against it, hence I did what I did and managed to clear it with raw power.
@@stampeder7365 That makes sense! The pukei bow does have more raw. It even has sneak attack which is awesome. I’ve thought of doing a sneak attack build with pukei bow but I feel like they’re going to release a better poison boss 😭
Thank you! It was Zinogre for me. Succeeded on the 68th attempt 😂 It's hard to stay near its small and mobile head to deal good damage. The hardest part for me was about getting it to do something that I want. Its response behaviour eludes me.
I'm using Samsung S23 Ultra. Running the game on High graphics at 1080p system resolution (default resolution). v78 improved the responsiveness a lot. I used to play at Medium on 720p, then at High on 720p, but v78 allowed me to go High at 1080p. But it's definitely not advisable to play like this out under a clear sky on a sunny day. It was stuttering quite a bit just now when I hunted a bit while getting lunch, but I'm not sure if it was the connection or the hardware performance that got throttled.

Just fought another 9★ Kulu with the same setup. Reproducible result! Had time to even recover from a failed evasion and still win with more time to spare than the first hunt.
So if you perfect parry it's doesn't consume your health? Especially the last atk of radobaan where it start to roll and you perfect parry your health still 40/120
Yes. It depends on the strength of the attack and your Guard level. I didn't look into the technical details of Guard and Well-timed Guard, but I believe that as long as you don't get knocked back on a Well-timed Guard, you won't take damage. Guard level will directly impact whether you will get knocked back by an attack or not, and stronger attacks will require higher Guard level to prevent knockback.

It's conditional. You can proc Burst using Burst Fire as part of the lead-up to a Wyrmstake. If you do the PE -> Burst Fire -> Wyrmstake flow, you will have Burst activated just before the actual wyrmstake drilling hits. Otherwise it'll only affect a lesser part of the wyrmstake hits. I have Burst mainly because of Rathian arms, not because I exactly wanted it, but I also want to experiment and see how well I can get Burst going using Gunlance. If you're also wondering, I'm not using Coral helm because the Gunlance is not something that will be hitting weak spots most of the time, and affinity doesn't do anything for shelling attacks. Therefore, I'd rather just go for Burst for a higher guaranteed damage boost in wyrmstake than for an averagely smaller damage boost that's RNG-based.
This weapon looks so awesome. I'm working up this and Great Girros Gunlance for my status backstab builds. I haven't actually played it yet though still grinding it up, but I'm getting close to 8.1 too on the pink Rath GL.
Yes! I find it satisfying to get the combos right on this weapon. Especially when I wyrmstake the monster and knowing that it will kill the monster with the final explosion. Fist of the North Star moment 😂
Welcome! Pukei Bow carried me to 10* in Pre-Season story and was able to clear Season 1 at 9* as well. I'll be testing it against the Season 2 9* story soon.
It was completely unintentional 😂 I've been trying to driftsmelt for things like Burst and WEx but I guess the universe would rather I have Evade Extenders 🤣

Hi! You need to go into Guard stance, then swipe up. You will start dashing that way. While dashing, you can activate SP to extend your dash time by a bit more.

Both of us are on this build, but effwhy's bow is at 9.5 while I'm at 10.5: mhn.quest?03171026130806080606040606 This build was based off a Japanese player's who used Tzitzi waist instead of Rathalos waist for SSA3 instead and he was able to take down 10★ Deviljho with an 8.5 Rathian Bow solo due to Rathian Bow's significantly higher poison element value than Pukei's.
