Whats up guys? We are the Kellys and this is our youtube channel. Here we discuss the trials and tribulations that we face starting our permaculture homestead nestled just south of Dunn, North Carolina, as well as why we are growing our own food for a better well being! We can't wait for you to join us on our journey as we cover topics like gardening, growing our own animals, harvesting, multiple sclerosis, stress, and creating time for yourself and the people and animals who matter most, like chickens and Aussies, you can't forget those two!
If you have any questions or have a topic you hope we can help you out with please leave a comment in the videos and we will try and get those answered!
Thank you for watching and welcome to Working Aussies Homestead!
@@WorkingAussiesHomestead thank you! I'm really nervous, this is our first litter! Your videos are super helpful in letting me know what to expect/what the birth looks like
Scout is growing so fast! We will need a playdate some time with our two little ones haha Love this truck - it is beautiful! Congratulations to you both!
It’s another learning curve; we lost about 90% of the flowers we started in trays. Only 1/3 of the cosmos made t to maturity along with zinnias and marigolds. We tried to start about 15 varieties this year for fun to see if we could potentially do cut flowers. There are several farmers near us who only do cut flowers - it’s not really something I want to compete with. We’ve been trying to lean more into growing herbs for teas as that’s not popular in our area.
@@WorkingAussiesHomestead her ears are black, and her face is white with blue eyes that’s how I describe my sweet little luna and the miss Mark coloring that she has is a disqualification she was the last puppy in her litter no one wanted her because of her marking because she wasn’t a full black tricolor with the tan points she didn’t have the white blaze on her face they’re supposed to have a little bit of white on them and her face is all white with black ears and that’s called a miss Mark and it’s a disqualification and Australian shepherd standard I love my girl She’s the most sweetest dog I’ve ever owned
The old adage, if you have live stock, you will have dying stock. Best thing I can offer is start learning basic veterinary stuff, I even have a lab where I can make basic compounds for use on the farm. Like any thing quality in quality out, luckily the stuff is super simple and near impossible to screw up! and a good rifle is a farm tool, if you don't you really need to get one, 22 mag, or better. I have a 22LR that is the work horse of the farm, then I have a 7.62*39 but that gets seldom taken out, I got a 9mm carbine to fill in the gap, 9mm is abundant, easy to reload, easy to handle, and packs plenty of power for farm life. Right tools make for easy life! I am off the grid as well, main power is solar, and I am atm raising sheep but looking into pigs, be interested in how you plan to process them, what sort of gear for lifting and such.
Where did you purchase them? Do you know if they are 100% thoroughbred? I have 17 that I purchased from cowpen creek. They have a certificate from the state of Mississippi that the flock is 100% pure blood Gulfcoast native sheep.
I purchased from Shangri-Baa Farm in Georgia - registered through the Gulf Coast Sheep Breeders Association. I’m the new secretary for BOD for GCSBA as of June 2024!
Hiii, Im new to ur channel and just subscribed recently, but Im already obsessed with watching ur vidss, Idk I just feel so much better or less lonely watching your videos when I get home from school :))). Maybe its because I always see nature and animals in your vids or maybe cuz it feels like im in a call with a friend hehe. I hope I dont sound like a loser 😭 but im always looking forward for new videos as always ^^ !!!!! Also, Im sorry for your loss :(.
We have lost two baby cows. It’s not fun. I have also been slack on making videos. We lost a child to cancers 6 yers ago so that really put my channel on the back burner i
How tragic. What a horrific loss for the animals. Maybe it's time to transition your fencing? This seems to be repetitive and I know we all hate for animals to endure unnecessary suffering.
Oh wow, I didn't expect to be crying this morning. So sorry for your loss. So heartbreaking but it is important to continue. I was wondering - are you selling produce at the farmers market in Fayetteville? I had been going to the Raleigh Farmers Market but it's been depressing to see all the produce not grown locally so I've been at a loss as to where to go. The Fayetteville one is 2 hours travel each way for me, so perhaps too far, but I'd love to know if you have any suggestions. Second note - your link for the book is not working. Hope you and the family have a great day!
Thank you ❤️ Yes, we are at City Market at the Museum on Saturdays and Dirtbag Ales Farmers Market on Sundays. The Sunday market is worth the drive! A fun atmosphere and over 50 vendors with several food trucks.
Thank you for sharing authentically! So sorry for y'all's loss. Losing a pup will never be easy. You guys are doing an incredible job with your pack. Can't wait to meet them all! I'd love to hear your thought process on the progressional training you're doing! 🤗
The first year we moved to our property we lost the dog what had been my companion and partner raising our kids(over many deployments). It was abrupt and traumatic for all of us. It’s so hard to address such a big loss. I know yall will rebound. But understand why you’d need time to process before sharing. I think that’s the most respectful step.
Truly n intense year… that’s a good word to use to describe it. I think it would be fun to share the journey of Snips as she grows up ❤️ Hope you are doing well!
We got ours from Shangri-Baa in central Georgia. However, there’s a breeder in Pittsboro as well who will have some available soon. I can send you his information!
3 years later, how is it going? We are soon expecting three goats, a Mom and her two female kids. Thus far, I've built a small structure for them. We started chickens about 2.5 years ago and now this!
3 years later and I’ve rehomed my goats that wouldn’t stand well for me and needed the stand. I trained Zera, a large dairy breed to let me milk her in the pasture. Good goats that aren’t trouble are worth their weight in gold - temperament is so important!
Good job mama! I am going to have my third baby and this time home birth in September! Very excited! Thank you so much for sharing your family precious moments with us!
