Hi Emma..I would like to ask, can I present literature review in academic conferences, example I have a topic that i am interested in, then I will do research on published journals about the topic, I will put the data tohether, cite my references, can I present this in an academic conference? Is it a common practice?
that is so inspiring - i am 12 days towards submission so knowing that it is Okay that I still have more work to do is reassuring. The big obstacle on my end is that I can't isolate myself from negative energy and stress within my environment which is very frustrating. I wake up with a task in mind, positive mindset then boom I get sucked in the negative energy and chaos!!

Please, I would like to know about the kind of modifications to be done on a PhD thesis to do a book proposal? what is the role of the members of the jury in that? How to choose a publication house?

I've heard of a viva that went on for 4-5 hours. The examiners and the student were arguing too and fro for 4 hours until the examiner said 'ok its time to move on'. The student got the highest phD award.
An hour? My friend's viva was 7 hours. The length of a viva is highly dependant on the examiners, and that there is a huge amount variation in their individual choices. I've heard of vivas lasting anywhere from an hour to over 7 hours. 2-3 hours is probably the average in my department, and the length of the viva is not necessarily dependant on the quality of the work. Sometimes if the work is particularly novel, or of great interest to the examiners, they may want to discuss it for longer.

It’s my first semester in graduate school (Physics) I know research and making an original contribution to your field is what graduate school was is all about. However if math and computer programming is a major component of your studies you will approach it very differently than say psychology. Thanks!

Hey Emma! I was wondering how you could suffer from completing your chapter and still had energy to do makeup and get dressed?:) I literally wore pjs (three different ones, thank God) for the last six months of my PhD study...
I had it done today Emma. Hardback PhD thesis in blue. I wanted to show you the photos but they did not fit in this text. Really a roller-coaster of feelings and emotions ran into my mind and heart. Proud of myself to have come this far to become a doctor. 💪🏻
Thanks for this. My examiners have my thesis and are reading in some mad-scientist-esque castle somewhere, or so I imagine to be the case, and hearing positive experiences is helping me pass the time between now and the viva (or defense as we call it in Canada).
I submitted my thesis 6 weeks in advance of my viva. I had totake 3 weeks off after the thesis in order to decompress. I will have my Viva next week and now I am going to take the whole week to prepare myself. Thank you for such a nice video.

I am most likely to use an exploratory and perhaps a mixed research method in the social sciences. What are your suggestions regarding the 'wording' and structural sense of a GOOD research question?
