Totally did not at all need to remove the entire headliner to remove the sliding sunshade cover. Just raise the roof at rear. This take pressure off the sunroof sliding panel. Then slide panel back, remove the long black plastic trim cover by gently pulling down it will unclip. The detach the rubber accordion bellow things don’t loose metal attaching clips, then device the lower slide rails by sliding backward to unlatch then away and forward to pull out. Now drop the roof at the rear, then slide back as far as it will go. Since those lower slide rails are removed the glass panel won’t catch the sliding sunshade panel. This will allow you to slide the cover forward with while the glass is open and lift it out from tue top of the. Clean any debris in the roof compartment, and close glass like normal while the cover is re upholstered. Once complete everything goes together in reverse order. Should only take about 5 to ten minutes to complete the removal or the installation. But year no need at all to drop the entire headliner and risk breaking more clips and fasteners to the A, B, and C pillars like these guys did to this car. By the way many of the clips are part of these pillar covers and can’t be ordered separate. You have to replace the entire pillar cover which are no longer available from Mercedes. So once it’s broken it’s broken unless you find one in a junkyard car that’s intact.
But for this you have to slide the sunshade way back and that’s not possible when there al debris in it.. in my case the whole sunroof and the sunshade only slides in for a view inches bc they isolation is laying on the headliner like I’m the video
This is a great video. It helped me replace the top on my 2004 CLK500. The HEADLINER strings and straps on the 2004 CLK500 came loose before I redid the top, is there any diagrams or videos you can share that show how and where these strings and elastic strap attach so I can finish the installation of my top?
