I first met Shri Mataji in London in 1979, before completing a PhD submission in mathematical modelling, computer simulation and control strategies for an electrochemical system. My background was in science and electronics. I worried for a short time that she might be a fake person, giving out false teachings. But quite soon I discovered that the knowledge she presented was clear, systematic and broadly verifiable by direct experience in the central nervous system. A few years later, perhaps 1981/82, I started teaching others and still working to correct my own internal imbalances. Last week I was teaching some physical exercises to a man with Kidney pains in Leicester, UK and showing him how to awaken and adjust some inner energies and to achieve a theraputic meditative state. Others came at different times and sat in a sort of focused energy workshop. A long story. One got up afterwards and simply told her watching friends "It worked." Most traditional guidance about how to do meditation was written by people with limited understanding and after only limited success. Actually meditation is NOT really something you do but it is a state which one may achieve, with the mind and body relaxed and no thoughts for a while, or very few. Alert, not in a trance. And it is not achieved by focusing the mind or repeating a mantra or a prayer or watching the emotions or controlling the breath or sitting in a particular asana or moving a particular way, like tai chi or physical yoga people, or Sufis, etc. William Blake wrote that man is born like a garden ready planted and sown. So the flowers or fruits grow automatically at the right season. Only some watering is needed, not too much and not too little. 😊
