My name is John and I’m the Tropical Fish Guy. I’ve dabbled in aquatics for the better part of 25 years. I have had the opportunity to have saltwater and freshwater tanks. I’ve had large fish tanks and small fish tanks. I’ve probably owned hundreds and hundreds of different types of fish, from the calm community fish to the larger, more aggressive fish. I have always enjoyed aquatics as a hobby and started this RU-vid channel to share my enthusiasm, love and knowledge. I will talk about fish and plants, as well as give you tips and tricks on how to deal with common problems. Thanks for watching my videos!
I’m needing some advice when it comes to tank setup. I’m not sure what decor is safest for my frog. He needs something to sit underneath, as well as some fake plants. If you could recommend what has worked for you that would be great
Sir I am also facing the same problem in my java fern. The anubias are growing well in the same tank, but the Java Fern has the same problem. What is the best fertilizer? What are the results of using this leaf zone?
I have 2 rope fish. 60 gal. Gravel substrate. They get along very well & sometimes swim upward with their bodies together in a twisting motion (facinating). They eat frozen shrimp & sinking shrimp pellets. I have a rather large open bottom cave in which they have hallowed out a hole in the gravel & they stay down there together. When they are swimming around, I have to approach the tank walking softly to watch them, Otherwise the foot vibration will send them hiding. I will try the beef heart & chopped shrimp. Cool Fish & great addition to the tank!!!
Hello! I just wanted to let you know this worked really well for me, I love how unobtrusive it is. I have 2 small tanks (5 and 10 gallon, one for shrimp and another for nano fish). I had picked up some HOB filters on sale because with such small tanks it felt bad giving up the internal real estate for the sponge filters I was running, but I definitely wasn't prepared for just how much flow they created even at the lowest setting. There are lots of videos about baffle techniques. This used trash most people have on hand or can get easily, it's clear, and I think it retains the surface agitation/gas mixing better than something like filter foam would.
86 degrees is not a “slightly” raised temperature! Notwithstanding the fact that Rams can be healthy and happy at 82 degrees where most plants can thrive in a healthy way.
For plants with broad leaves like Anubias I use my thumb and forefinger to wipe it off. For some other stem plants I dip them in a bath of peroxide for a couple of minutes. Don’t do this with Java moss or fern. Otherwise turn your lights off except when you are looking at the tank for a couple of weeks. That’s the real answer. Usually too much light is the issue.
Another tetra fan here...3 different tanks: Buenos Aires tetras, Columbian tetras, Black neons, Albino Pristella tetras, Neons, Long fin white tetras, long fin red Serpae tetras, glow light tetras, and super blue Kerri tetras. Tank mates include dwarf Powder Blue gouramis, Dwarf Honey Gold gouramis, Opaline Gouramis. Loaches: Kuhli, Yo-yo, Albino dojo, black Kuhli.
My GBR is my center piece fish. He is housed with 2 Ruby Rams, 4 Columbian tetras, 4 Buenos Tetras and assorted loaches. GBR comes to the front of the tank at feeding time and lights up with every color of the rainbow. When I get close and talk to him he squirms like a puppy. He seems to know where to go to be in the best light.
I just got a ACF by mistake thought he was a ADF. But it’s so cute. Learning about it. In a 16 gallon with 2 loaches so far. A lot to learn 😊 thanks looking forward to info.
Are these illegal to keep in certain states such as Washington? I read online that they are. Also, can they be kept with other fish? Such as community fish? (Just watching the video)
They are illegal in some states since they are predatory. No, they should not be kept with community fish. They will eat them. You might want to look at dwarf frogs. They look similar but stay small and would be good for some community fish. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@TropicalFishGuy I saw someone was selling them but I live in Washington so I can’t keep them. I used to have dwarf frogs so I’ll get a couple of those instead. Thank you 😊
Just added 12 to my American cichlid tank with severum, geos, and a blue acara. Perfect little addition. Fast, robust and just a great and cheap fish. I played around with adding like mascara barbs, Denison’s, etc but they were expensive, harder to find and no more exciting than these tetras. Paid 2.49 each at my lfs,
This is the BEST video on algae removal I have seen! It was simple, educational, and provided so many additional tips. You have given me my sanity back! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
I watched your video why waiting in a doctor's office. Very informative. I have one albino femald adult african clawed frog. I am looking for a natural female adult african clawed frog. Any suggestions?
