Now that my shoulder is fully healed from two bad bike wrecks (2019 and 2021) and that I need to incorporate negative-resistance workouts for general inflammation, this looks like a good workout to strengthen my shoulder that also would help with shoulder motions associated with tennis. While I understand the general sentiment, and even share the disdain for trend hopping, I think you are off the mark with the dietary stuff. Most people are driven to things like carnivore, fasting, and veganism because they are sick and modern medicine cannot or is not helping them (and of course ethical reasons regarding veganism). People become emotional because you are dismissing something that someone used to heal and help themselves, often after years or even decades of repeated failures and worsening health. You say no one is offering facts to counter your arguments, for health benefits of carnivore (and keto) I suggest Drs. Shawn Baker, Ken Berry, and Anthony Chaffee. They have hours of explanations of why carbohydrates in your diet are unnecessary and often harmful, and how fat and meat are healing. However, they all repeat that you have to find what is best for you. It is usually suggested to start heavily restricted, heal, then figure out what you can tolerate by slowly reintroducing other foods. Fasting for weight loss is not ideal unless you can manage very long or frequent fasts, however the metabolic benefits to fasting are undeniable. Dr. Jason Fung is a wealth of information on fasting. However a low to no carb diet will provide nearly all the same benefits as fasting, often called a fast mimicking diet,but you still get to eat. To better understand the personal reasons I would suggest Dante Ferrigno, Kerry of Homestead How, Bella the Steak and Butter Gal, or any of the many stories that people have posted online about their health journey. People didn’t turn to these diets out of popularity, they did it out of desperation. Then, these symptoms that have plagued them start dropping off so fast it is difficult to keep track. Once their health improves, the question will arise sooner or later, how did I get so sick doing what I was told was the proper diet? Then the anger comes because people have lied, and are lying to us and we are harming ourselves because of it. That is a valid reason to be emotional when people dismiss these experiences. I hope you take the time to really dive into what is happening with the food and healthcare systems. I promise it’s not fad and sensationalism, it’s just people trying to figure things out.
@CoachJoshWood
@CoachJoshWood 5 месяцев назад
Hey man, thank you very much for taking the time to comment. It's appreciated. I am aware of almost all of the names you have stated, and aware of their stances. But, your argument is essentially "all of these individuals have a personal story about a thing that helped them personally and that's why they are emotionally attached." What I am saying is that the the emotional attachment isn't helping anyone and in more cases it's actively stopping people from seeking solutions. Trial and error is key to personal solutions, but when 9 out of 10 people are not being helped by a fad, they need to move on. I'm very aware of the healthcare and food system issues, but the solution to those issues isn't just jumping on a new bandwagon. Also, in the case of fasting, every study that equates for calories finds no benefit above baseline for fasting. Most of the big proponents of fasting tend to use a mechanistic explanation that just doesn't reflect in real-world studies.
@mattoltman7122
@mattoltman7122 5 месяцев назад
@@CoachJoshWood I understand the zealotry that can develop from the emotional attachment to something and you can see it all over the place. Agreed that people use that or feel that as pressure to adhere, it’s common in most diet circles I think. The idea that if something doesn’t work you aren’t doing it correctly or hard enough. And pretty much all major advocates of carb restricted/elimination diets say to find your own way and what works for you. As far as 9 out of 10 people not seeing results, I’m not sure what you are referencing. The keto/fasting mimicking/low or no carb diet has significant data showing improvement in physical and mental health improvement and disease management, not to mention the heaps of personal stories. And while this type of diet is gaining a lot is steam lately, it is not a fad. These firsts have been studied for over 100 years. As I stated above, fasting is not the best path for weight loss unless you can do long or frequent fasts to capitalize on the calorie defect and then not overcompensate when you do eat. The benefit of fasting isn’t weight loss, it’s the cellular and metabolic health. I’m not sure what mechanistic explanations don’t hold up, but increased apoptosis of damaged and senescent cells, hgh and stem cell stimulation etc are pretty well established during fasting.
@CoachJoshWood
@CoachJoshWood 5 месяцев назад
Zealotry is the right word. Re:fasting, the supposed cellular and health benefits are the same as in any calorie restricted diet. You can use a feeding window, or you can restrict across the day. But when calories are equated you just don't seen any extra improvement of health markers. That said, I do think feeding windows can be beneficial in a number of cases. Fasting and keto may have therapeutic benefits for this with certain conditions, but that doesn't mean they have benefit for the general population. You don't give medicine to everyone because it helped a sick person.
@mattoltman7122
@mattoltman7122 5 месяцев назад
@@CoachJoshWood Agreed you can achieve most fasting benefits with intermittent fasts, but that is still fasting, which is beneficial to heatlh. Most people are sick. Nearly half of Americans are obese and the incidence of metabolic disease is skyrocketing. If you have lived eating processed food, sugar, and seed oils most of your life, you are sick. So these diets as treatment would be beneficial for the general population. On that note though, if a diet can improve poor health, why would you stop? It would be silly to fix a problem then go right back to what caused the problem. Comparing diet to medicine is disingenuous. Low/no carb diet is sustainable and will prevent nearly all major diseases we are currently fighting for most people.
@CoachJoshWood
@CoachJoshWood 5 месяцев назад
@@mattoltman7122 I disagree with a number of points here. Particularly the sustainability of no/low carb diets and the need for such extremes at all, especially when (again) in healthy populations when calories are equated, fasting and restrictive diets show the same benefits as calorie control. The number one way to help all these fat and sick people is to get them not fat. The easiest and most sustainable way? A whole foods calorie controlled diet that they can do forever. No special name, no cult, no magic, but it works and it works always. In fact, the topic of world wide obesity will be mentioned in my TEDx talk next month. Guess how we're going to fix it? Eat Like an Adult. Stay tuned. Note: I'm not talking about people with food intolerances or the need for certain food elimination.
