Mongolia is the 18th largest country in the world by area, but it has an extremely low population density, even lower than the Sahara Desert. This is due to its harsh climate, which makes most of the land unsuitable for permanent settlement. On top of that, the nomadic lifestyle of the people also contributes to this sparsity-many Mongolians move constantly in search of grazing land for their livestock, rather than settling permanently in one place 🐎🐎🐎.
I'd say that's more basic facts. I was born there as an American military brat, my dad attached to then Wheelus Air Force Base. That base was built by the Italians, taken over by the Germans, taken over by the British, taken over by the Americans, taken over by the Libyans, bombed by the Americans and now serves as Tripoli's International Airport as the older international airport was destroyed in the recent civil war. Most people know Libya is an oil state with a relatively small population, thus prosperous when peaceful. But many don't know that 10,000 or so years ago it was much greener, much more rain, thus some of those cave drawings you showed are often portraying animals now found only in the wetter parts of Africa. A legacy of this is much of Libya sits on a huge lake of fresh water, similar in volume to one of the Great Lakes. Most Libyan towns, people and agriculture are very close to the coastline and most people there are a mix of Berber and Arab. But inland are desert people making a living where few people can live. They are a rather incredible mix of people running from coal black skin to blue eyes, Berbers, Tuareqs, likely descendants of the Vandals etc. When my dad was stationed there with USAF, a plane went down in the desert. (not the B-24 Lady Be Good) and my dad was one of many loaded unto helicopters to go look for the plane. He said they spent hours looking in a desert that presented NOTHING, not people, or plants, or animals. Then they got a call that the plane had been located and they went there. Upon arrival there were approximately 150 desert tribesmen, heavily armed including German submachine guns, leftover from the days when Libya was a major WWII battlefield. A deal was quickly cut whereby the Americans got the bodies of the guys that had crashed and the aircraft engines so they could try to figure out what had happened and the tribesmen got the rest and were already stripping the plane of valuables. I'm under the impression the desert people still run the desert...
Worked there for nearly 3 years and hoping I'll be returning soon. Intoxicating country. UB isn't a great city (built for a population of 600k but has 3 times that living there) so traffic and pollution are horrendous...but I still love it. Amazing people and stunning natural beauty. Just to point out, it's Chinggis Khan. And no mention of Hurd (Mongolia's most famous rock group). Shame on you, they are fantastic! 😁

Before the attack Europe and America tried to convince dictator Miloshevich to stop killing, terrorising and forcibly displacing people in Kosovo - there was a lot of diplomacy that failed. Miloshevich wanted blood, he was stopped. This was not some sneaky politics - everything was open and clear.
