Maybe we figure out how to work on earth first before jumping to unnecessary locations. Always grinds my gears when there's so much R&D for imaginary space travel, while we have billions of humans in poverty.

A lot, I mean a lot of technology on earth is due explicitly to this kind of research. Pens, velcro, Insulin pumps, MRIs, more enhanced pacemakers etc. There is so much stuff we learn from this R&D. Literally millions have had their lives extended decades because of these breakthroughs.
