Individual is the way to go at least if you are using East west the ensembles always sound off chart at certain ranges. Good for testing idea or mock up.
Here’s how I wrote this percussion-driven track using DECADENCE: Trailer Toms from AVA Music Group 👇🏼 1. Started everything with the 3 different Toms patches. They all have a unique character 2. I then introduced the Darbuka to contrast with the thundering Toms rhythms 3. From here, I started adding other percussion elements to fill out the sound more 4. In the final section I added the Drum Kit to take over as the lead percussive sound, with the Toms accenting in key moments 5 To finish the track off, I added huge brass, strings and synth parts. Check my previous collaboration reel with AVA to hear the full track
Glad you liked it! Did you learn anything that you'll apply in your future music? And sure thing, it was a big mix of libraries (just loaded up my big main template and used what inspired me): Strings: mainly Pacific Strings and CSS, with some additional artilculations/layering from Areia Strings, Tundra, Symphonic Strings, Time Micro and Ark 3. Choir was all CHORUS, that's my go-to choir now 95% of the time. Woodwinds were BWW and Symphonic Woodwinds. The rest was a bunch of miscellaneous patches from different libraries and some patches from virtual synths like Zebra2/ZebraHZ
I was on the fence for BBC or Nucleus, this helped push me to Nucleus by a milestone! It sounds 99.9% like the original, I probably wouldn't be able to tell it wasn't had I just heard this without knowing it was a mock-up; brilliantly done!! :)
Thank you for the kind words, I remember trying to get it as close as possible to the original. Enjoy using Nucleus! There’s a behind the scenes video where I break down this mock-up, that might be helpful for getting started with Nucleus: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IzAl3OZXn6w.htmlsi=1x3Itmj19hqJn23w
Thank you! And good question, it’s been a while since I wrote this, but I think it was a mix of Hans Zimmer Percussion, Saga Percussion and a couple other percussion libraries layered together. The big trailer hits I’m pretty sure were from AVA Instinct.
Awesome track here Tom!! Love the orchestration choices and this type of detailed - well thought out music. I took a look at the list of libraries you used and was amazed. Clearly I need to work more on clearing up my mix and writing altogether more clear music. How do you get those Brass swells/rips to sound so clean? Is it both CC11 and CC1 you're using? (reference both 1:22-1:37 and 1:59-2:06)
Hey, thank you so much!! Glad you like the track. And yeah regarding the swells/rips: at 1:22 that’s just CC1 controlling the dynamics, and later on at 1:59 I’m using the rips articulation in CSB’s Horns
@@TomHawkComposer wow! Thank you so much! I thought it was using the CC1 for sure, I've gotta say, that same day, I went home and tried this out myself. Came out only half as good but the practice will make progress lol! Anyway, thanks for getting back to me.
You're totally right about learning a lot when working on a strict time schedule / deadline. If I compose a full song (with lyrics), arrange it, record it and mix it so that there's a professional and to any public audible result, that usually takes around 3 to 5 days of work if I add up all the hours. Last week i said: fuck that, I'm a pro... I should be capable of delivering it within 24 hours from first scratch to pro recording result. Which I did. And it was the time pressure that did the job, unleashed the craftsmanship in an excellent workflow, resulting in every single thing needed in that song being done within 24 hours after start. It's hard... but amazing to work that way 🙂
Yep, trying to create something from first idea to finished product in one day is super intense but a great learning exercise. You learn so much about your craft and your tools. It provides you with valuable insights of how to improve your workflow.
FINALLY....a thorough but reasonably priced package for creating orchestral pieces, everything I need, the strings don't sound obviously fake (sooooooooooo many do to my ears)....well worth it.
I have a question…In my Piano roll in FL studio or Cubase the audio comes late from nucleus like i put proper quantization but still the audio comes late so i have to drag the midi note before the beat…what is the solution for this?
Hey, you need to set the negative track delay in your DAW (Cubase can do this for sure) to compensate for the sample start time in libraries like Nucleus. Check out this video that explain what sample start is and why it’s used (for better realism): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x8JY04DmbCY.htmlsi=IxqmTY-HyPmkO0Z7
Like all other comments this is truly impressive stuff I have nucleus and I'm a million miles from this level quality.. Sadly.. Btw where did you learn orchestration! Amazing stuff welldone! I need more time to learn!
Thank you so much!! And you can absolutely learn this skill! Lots of practice, watching RU-vid videos, studying loots of music, taking online courses/coaching, and a lot of trial & error!
@@TomHawkComposer You’re welcome! P.S. I’m working on an original score for my fanfilm, B4: Guardians (a Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons fanfilm)! I don’t really have a musical background, but I know I can do it…hopefully, at least! I just wanted to thank you for being an inspiration to me, because I have the dream of composing an original score…and I do believe that I can do it!
Great job!! Amazing arrangements plus a very clear and bright sound! At this point, I would like to know if it is needed to open one Nucleus instance for each instrument or you can trigger many different instruments with only one instance. Many thanks in advance.
Thank you! You can trigger multiple instruments/patches in one Kontakt instance, but it is often better to have each instrument in a separate Kontakt instance.
@@TomHawkComposer Just had to listen the whole thing again. Just amazing! "Nucleus Demo" is such a humble way of adding an embellishment to the title. Like this is ready-to-use soundtrack level stuff. A really good one at that...
Hey, I am trying to write a script for a short film. I am currently trying to get my foot in the door for the film industry. I was curious what is the price range for an average composer to score a 10-15 minute short film? I am genuinely curious, because when I google it, I receive various answers. I want a more accurate price range if possible. If you do not respond to this, I understand. It has been 2 years since you released this video, and for some it is a sensitive topic. However, if you respond, just want to say thank you and your music score in the film was great!
@@TomHawkComposer Yes, very nice! There are two other RU-vidrs, both named Alex that do similar things. You may already know about them. If not, check them out. 🙂
@@TomHawkComposer The only weakness of the track was that I did not find the voices very realistic in isolation. With everything else it does not matter tho. I can recommend Maggie and Amy, two voice plugins by Musical Sampling.
Awesome yeah I know both Alex’s, they’re great guys! And that’s fair to say, I only used these solo voices more as layers rather than stand out parts, so I didn’t do the best job with the the MIDI programming & mixing on those. If the solo voices had isolated parts within the track, I would focus on the MIDI programming more like I did in previous tracks :)
I'd love to hear more on your story of discovering that you wanted to get into composing, a video going through that would be awesome! Thanks for everything you share - love your channel!
