Awesome video bro. Can you test the various "improved" versions vs the normal? There's one where you wrap in inside the end loop a few times then another where you wrap in inside the mainloop and the entry braid
The more I fish the more I take an interest in the many different knots. This seems a good knot. My 1 question - can you get the entire thing tightened (for good bite of braid into leader) with all of those wraps? Ive seen a number of very experienced captains shorten their fg knots to max 16 wraps in each direction for the very reason that 20 to 25 in each direction might tighten at the mainline end of the knot but not at the leader end of the knot. When you tighten this knot do you get color change down to the beginning wraps of it? Thank you. Ive watched so may of your videos I now recognize your hands!
I have learned how to tie the fg knot or the relix knot that you are watching.. to get good and strong results from this knot or let's just say with the Fg knot, when you braid from start to finish you have to make sure the PE or main line tension is really maximum. because in my experience if the main line is a little loose then the braid we make is only tight at the end, but if the main line tension is maximum it will definitely be different. you can practice by maintaining the main line tension using the reel knob for maximum results of an Fg or relix knot. Thank you very much friends for watching my video. I hope you and your family are always given health and remain under God's protection.
Why didn't I think of that moment. Using the reel handle as a tensioner of the braid. I pulled a rod out just to try it myself and tied the best and quickest FG knot I've ever tied. No more triple knotting line and holding in my teeth; Thank you!
@pescadorestamora hard to understand that. I've tied FGs on a fishing kayak before and think this simplifies it since you only have to manage the one line. I have a boat now and figure the more room the better. I also usually go thru my rods before I head out for the day so it is rare that I have to tie a new knot. Tight lines!

That’s a lot when you’re in the field, I want a quick knot and I’ve found the Alberto knot fast and very strong, don’t have time for the fuss of this knot.
blood knot is easier, but not stronger than relix fishing knot. and blood knot will be thicker if using heavy leader, unlike relix and fg knot. if using heavy leader both knots that i mentioned still smooth and strong
Holy crap, how am I supposed to remember this when I’m sitting in the ocean in a 2m swell trying to retie my leader? I’ll just stick to double Uni knots!
Excellent tutorial! What is the thinking with respect to the asymmetrical portion of the knot (where you’re wrapping twice on the left and once on the right)? I’ll give it a try the next time I tie on a leader, but I’m curious why this should hold any better than a regular FG. Thanks.
if as usual the fg knot is 1:1 initial braid. the relix knot that i made is 1:2 as you can see in the video, it will make the braid stronger from start to finish. in my country many casters use this knot and it is proven strong, even using a light leader line. maybe in the next video i will make a strength test sir
@pescadorestamora - It does make sense to make FG knot a wee bit "stronger" but will definitely try this on my next outing. Great video and tutorial on how to do it. 😊🤠
What is the point using 40lbs leader on. 13lbs braid ? Such tiny braid bites realyb good in thick leader….Show the way to tie this braid in 10lbs leader for example . I have troubles with FG knot in this UL combo and I use alberto and albright for UL…
@@gorazdg1you can see my video here, i use fg knot with 10lbs leader. hope it can help you ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q-WuQ4kDpVY.htmlsi=9Zo8Bub7TlBlL2uX
That's my go-to knot from braid to heavy mono or fluoro,...but I taper the tag end of the mono or flouro and the taper is also tightly wrapped and finished.... so there is no blunt end resistance to hit the guides or your thumb reeling in... especially with thick mono leaders for long distance casting with multiplier reels... 👍😎🤙
Very nicely shown. Thanks 👍🏼 Is it more correct to use stronger or weaker mono/fluoro leader line relative to braid strength? I would like to achive that if ittangkes it breaks at the joining knot or lead weight.
@@smetljesm2276 usually i use a lighter leader line than braid. But you can also use a thicker one than braid. for example 15lbs braid and 20lbs leader
By the time I’ve tied this knot, everyone else would have already limited out. I use the carrot knot. It’s at least as strong as the FG knot but easier to tie on a rocking boat.
Might be good for ultralight fishing with 2-6lb line where you can't really afford to wrench down on a 2-6b leader line as hard as a FG requires. This one all the tightening seems to be on the braid with no abuse to the leader.
if using light rod i suggest better use Fg knot, in this video i use light rod 3-6lb. with 13lb PE fishing line and 10lb leader line ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q-WuQ4kDpVY.htmlsi=UYZbhhgDbQBHSvMA
Thank you! I use 0,5-0,6 PE braid & 10 lb FC leader mostly. I have tried many methods in the locking part. Trying to find the best one. Last time I locked it with the rizzuto lock from your other video. Is there a reason why you didn't use rizzuto lock in this video ?
There is really no other reason, I think if you use a final knot like the one in this video it will close the end of the leader line, so if you use a lighter rod it will make it easier for the knot to come out of the top ring. And it won't damage the ring. Thank you for watching my video sir 🙏
