ok l will admit, given that from Phoenix had virtually NO experience with the piano, his _piano_ performances were actually impressive... but considering how many little old ladies I know who've had to fill in last minute on a church organ, the pieces Danny could play would not have blown ANYONE away. maybe for the actual audition scene (or part of it), and the scene where Danny first impressed the music teacher, he could've allowed a real piano player to do a piece, you know, above a beginner's level? ffs _I_ could've done what Danny did, those pieces weren't exactly on a _Juliard_ level (granted, I took some lessons and my folks had a piano in their house, plus we had access to the church. even if there *hadn't* been a piano in the home), but Juliard isn't just A performing arts school; it's THE performing arts school! why tf can't movies ever pick a local state U with a great arts program?? k, my last petty issue with the movie was Lorna's family. we don't meet her, but Mrs Lorna must've either been something like a big shot lawyer, or the recipient of a trust fund windfall, bc Lorna's father was a _public school teacher!_ not that they don't make significantly more than Danny's folks @ whatever entry-level jobs they could find ASAP, but both my dad's parents were public school teachers in Billings MT around then. that wasn't an expensive city, & their house was a regular split level (plus it was always a 2 income household, u kno... back when 1 income was supposed to suffice.) & the movie really seemed to think that Lorna's family's upper middle-to-straight up _upper class_ situation with that huge house (granted, it was the 80's and it didn't take place in a super fancy city, so home prices were likely vert reasonable) was _typical._ oh... and Lorna's family? the public school music teacher?? yeah, _they had a maid._ Lorna said her mom would flip out if she got a pretty, homemade _shell necklace_ as a present from her high school aged kids... like... who tf IS that lady? bc all things considered, she _must've_ been the breadwinner... right??! The Pope family, on the other hand, were intermittently homeless, tho they did have support (their car & their rental deposit, if not the first couple months of rent, were provided for them), they were actually impoverished. they obtained a rental home immediately. it was at least a 2 bedroom single family home ( _possibly_ a townhouse? but 100% not a duplex), generously sized with hardwood floors (again, the perks of living somewhere in upstate NY state instead of NYC or even the New Jersey sprawl). not fancy, but not dilapidated - and within biking distance (possibly walking distance?) of both school, the ocean _and_ whatever upscale neighbood Lorna's family lived in! so! to make my short point long: Lorna's 'typical middle class' living situation with her dad's public school music teacher salary allowed her family to afford STAFF! do writers in Hollywood think it's NORMAL for a middle class family to employ a _maid?!_ also, if the house the Popes were renting is what they think poverty looks like, there's a few neighbors in even Mankato they might find interesting.
wow. people here are nuts. These are just young boys being friends. Give me a break. I fully support the LGBTQIA+ community but i think you're looking for something that does not exist.
Most will tell you they were very good friends, but I think their closeness was written to be interpreted as romantic. Sometimes it is annoying that homosexuality cannot be explicitly depicted.
GAY??? Only this modern generation would think this because none of you know what its like to have close friends.. FIRST OF ALL For everyone that thinks they're gay...EVERYONE FELT BAD FOR GORDIE, CUZ HIS BROTHER UM...DIED. and Chris is simply a saint of a person, a true leader. NEITHER THEIR FAMILYS WERE VERY LOVING AND AFFECTIONATE... MAYBE GORDIE UNTIL HIS BROTHER DIED AMD HIS PARENTS LOST IT...ANYBODY WHO BELIEVES THIS Obviously never knew what it was like to have good friends and they probably came from a very loving well off family that kept them in a privileged bubble... A lot of parents , especially fathers were not affectionate at all...THAT IS THE BASIS OF THE WHOLE DAMN MOVIE.
He really moves the audience with his performances. His acting is very subtle but incredibly emotive. He had an old soul aura around him… Wherever you are River you are deeply missed ✨
the arcade scene will be forever the most romantic scene in any movie ever. the little kisses and urgency when they dance... they didnt need full on passionate kisses b/c he wanted her to be comfortable and so she did little kisses b/c she was nervous and he matched her energy with that if that makes sense... he didnt want to mess up this good thing he had b/c he was falling for her too. even before the kiss and dance they had so many good scenes together. finally i loved the way he would just look at her... little glances etc. so hot
Man, I loved Keanu in the early 90s. Now I love River. So crazy. It’s crazy, but I think it’s sad that River went in his prime, however it’s left him a legacy. I think the drugs would have made him worse in the end. At least he’s still remembered now. Probably wouldn’t have happened if he lived. JMO.
@MacyLovesJesus I know it's weird and creepy. Just because they look out for each other and aren't like friends are now doesn't make them gay. It was made in the 80's when the world was normal

Imma jump on the comment bandwagon: "When River died, how did it make you feel?" What is wrong with some people? That is SO incredibly insensitive!! How do you think it made him feel? He lost his best friend!!
Keanu has suffered so much loss in his life (his best friend River, his fiance, his baby was still born on Christmas Day, his sister having cancer). When I see footage of him nowadays, he looks like he's ready to depart the Earth and join his loved ones. Not in a suicidal way, just in a way that he's ready to go if it happens. He's a beautiful soul and I'm so sad when I think that his genes will die with him 💔
