Kind of a tough time to shore fish for perch. Usually thanksgiving until about February you can catch them in the slips/marina that are open to the public.
@@johnny.goodrich I hate to say out loud but the bass crowd found it years ago…lake Moomaw. Carp have gotten in and are causing the perch trouble, but still some big ones. It was a world class fishery! Mostly we pull an “unnamed” spoon for trout. All the bass boats boats buzzing around the edges just “give my balls a little action”!
Feb 14 th we got our 45 perch for 3 guys in less than a hour big perch then a week later it slowed down big time small perch and itvwas slow for everyone 😢@johnny.goodrich
That’s what I was hearing too, big ones being caught earlier in the month. Seemed like the big females moved out. If I ever catch one over 16” out there it’s going on the wall lol
Now that's what's up man. I've been in the marina putting a spanking on em from shore 13 days in and I've caught 198 fish. A lot of sorting but some real nice fish in the mix. Dropshotting plastics 🎣. Now back to the video. Tightlines 🤙🏽
Nothing beats some perching! Seems like a lot more big fish are being caught this year too. Been out a few times in the boat and hammered em. Are you in NWI? Might be time for some ice fishing here tho 😎
Usually it’s a combo of water temp and wind. On the south end of Lake Michigan things usually fire up around early July given that we have a couple solid days of south winds. Pushes those schools of perch shallow. They were kind of a no show this year
Thinking of going out of st joe or new buffalo in the jext few weeks. I have a marcum lx7. How are you finding them on such huge open water with no cover?
That spot has always produced in the past. Pretty much a giant sand flat they hang out on. I haven’t heard of much being caught this summer tho. We didn’t get the southern winds that push those big schools shallow unfortunately.
Are you just hanging an ice fishing transducer over the side and drifitng around? My buddy and i wanted to go out on his bigger boat. I have a marcum, lx7. Figured it should do the trick.
Yepp I was using my Garmin 63CV ice bundle and letting the transducer hang off the side. It works pretty dang well if you don’t have a dedicated graph on your boat. I’ve used it multiple times that way!
@johnny.goodrich Interesting, everyone I know killing them this year have all been new buffalo south towards Chicago. Lots of my peeps have been going down there all year for limits. Seems like new buffalo north has been slow this year. Love the videos man!
@johnny.goodrich I was going to wrap my ducer Ina bag of water and leave it in the back of the boat at the bottom. I guess guys have had luck doing that with no on board unit. I'll let you know if it works!
