Kingsley, I do enjoy these drives through scenic England. I think you could make them even more interesting by showing some of the scenery around about, and not just the road ahead. Don't ask me how you are supposed to do that (I sound like a politician criticising but offering no solution!!) as I haven't ever filmed anything, but you might think of a solution. Maybe a camera attachment on the side of the car door? anyhow, don't let me detract you - I enjoy the drive. Looking forward to the next.
Did you visit Dent Station while you were in the area Kingsley? It's actually around 15 minutes drive along the road, and is the highest mainline railway station in England...It is on the Settle to Carlisle line.
Sure thats the cafe my mum took me in when I was a teenager at baliol boarding school late 60s they had a jukebox and my step dad put Get back by the Beatles on and I eat my fave Bangers Chips n Egg.
Kingsley, the "G" in Sedbergh is silent. It's pronounced as if it were spelt Sedbur......... Sedbergh is a famous book town, and also has one of the oldest private boarding schools, founded in the 1500's.....
Thank u for making this video cause it's the only way I will ever be able to explore England is thru video's people like urself makes & puts up on Utube lol. I'm in america & it's been a dream of mine for years now is to visit England & Ireland .
Nice look around Sedbergh. A couple of points from a 'lifetime local'. Sedbergh formed it's book town persona well before the Covid pandemic and we 'in't 'ills' call the town 'Sed-burra'.
This is such a beautiful video! And I just love Englands villages, I stayed on the IOW for a time, it looks much the same😅 love the background intel! So interesting!
Excellent video. I spent my honeymoon in the Kings Head in 1971. My favourite walk was from Kings Head via the monks road to Starbotton over the stepping stones on the Wharfe and along the river bank back to Kettlewell. Thank you and best wishes from Costa Rica.
wonderful, the way you have put it together is very good and very interesting history, thank you so much for doing this, all the very best from Cheshunt Herts UK
I had a very dear friend who lived in that cottage that you filmed in Townhead that had the little bridge next to it and the bench at the back with steps going down to the river. Stayed there when my children were small and I vividly remember them playing in the stream. My friend has since passed away and my children now in their 50s and myself live in New Zealand. This film brought back wonderful memories, going to her daughters wedding in the lovely church and wedding reception in the town hall.
Its nice that they have a statue to remember that poor lady accused of being a witch. It is estimated that the Catholic church burned approx 8 million women at the stake for being witches. The blood on the hands of the Catholic church is mind boggling: the Spanish inquisition, the crusades and the brutal colonization of the Americas and parts of Africa.....not to mention all the recent scandals involving child abuse.
