People spend their lives paying off these overpriced polystyrene kit homes and this is the level of quality they get. These builders cant even follow a building plan.
So what you’ve really got here is a trifecta ! 1. Concreter’s not following the plans ! 2. Engineer not following AS requirements ! 3. Building surveyor conducting checks and approving, without getting out his Hilux! What a schmozzle…. !
The good thing about the Australian Standards is that there can be alternative ways to be compliant. They are not rigid. But.... If you want to deviate away from the Standard, it basically has to be engineered to be a better solution that the one the Standard mentions.
No idea why anyone doing a waffle slab - so already compromising the structure of their house - would want to pay for it to be checked. If you’re building a house that big, doing the slab properly is going to be worth it within a very short timeframe
If the workers had to crawl around like that in the roof space its no wonder its such a mess. The sections should have been assembled on the ground and craned in. Flat roofs are a menace anyway, they always end up leaking.
Love your videos, I've learned alot from you. But dayum, I'm no lawyer but I'm fairly certain there's some liable comments flying about throughout that exchange. Fascinating stuff... but I hope it doesn't cost anyone their homes.
Houses built of shit and sticks by crooks who have no business calling themselves “builders” or “tradies” and then “inspected and signed off” by other crooks.
I would rather have a 500mm x 385mm edge beam in my house than a 300mm x 385mm , from what i can see the builder is doing the homeowner a favour , many engineers allow for bulk concrete placement.
They also say that when you drive, you should keep both hands on the steering wheel at 10 and 2 position. Otherwise, there is a risk of crashing! How many people actually do this?... Like 0.1% of drivers! How many people crash by not complying?... Like 0.1% of drivers! These standards are set to be over engineered because, in the real world, contractors are always under engineer. So the 2 balance out! Hope you learnt something! Cheers 🍻
Hey mate, love the videos, if I can give some feedback, with your full house coverage videos, may I suggest restructuring your videos?.. you're obviously very knowledgeable, but for a non construction bloke watching, it seems like you're just jumping around to random places, one minute you've got the drone up looking at the roof, then you look at the frame, then somehow you're back to the guttering and roof, then frame again.. Maybe a video similar to this, where you show specifications for edge beams and maybe show where they run in the house etc. inspect what you can see with the frame room by room, then go onto roofing, wiring, etc. Similar to how I'd say you structure your reports, you'd have all faults with roof together, all faults with framing together, etc. Anyway, my two cents, interesting content that is just really scary to see what the building industry has become, keep doing what you're doing, hopefully one day builders will correct their ways.

I don’t think the assessment of the edge beam reinforcement was correct? I could see one bar on the top on the inside of the set down and then a couple at the bottom. At initial glance it seemed ok? What am I missing? The bigger issue for me is the location of the bars either top or bottom.
why are most builders and concreters such tightarses and dodgy? always SKIMPIMG ON SUMTHING???? ill never understand nor would i let them get away with it. Why i have 3 different lawyers.
